  1. It took Faisal Shahzad trying to set a car bomb in Times Square to get President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to finally use the word “terrorism.” (And not referring to Tea Party activists!) http://www.anncoulter.com/

  2. Seriously, folks, if an aging sex symbol like me starts waving the red flag of caution over how low moral standards have plummeted, you know it’s gotta be pretty bad. In fact, it’s precisely because of the sexy image I’ve had that it’s important for me to speak up and say: Come on girls! Time to pull up our socks! We’re capable of so much better.

  3. and as per vits request this morning.
I havent found a better explanation for the spill than what was posted on CBCpravda other than the following notes courtesy of myself.
the depth and temperature of the well, greater than 10000ft at the target zone is well out of the hydrate zone , which is where “water” and methane will form crystals.
they wouldnt be heating cement at this depth to set it around the wellhead . au contraire, cement is inhibited from setting up at this depth to keep it from setting up to quickly
displacing with seawater in an overpressured zone as per a subduction area would be “bad engineering practice ” even on a remedial cement job.this wellbore should of had mud on both sides of the drill string.
this rig would have been equipped with at least two annular preventers , likely a redundant shear ram ,and actually a good chance of three of everything.
at 5000 ft of water and 10000 ft of total depth this well is in waters drilled 20 years ago.
hydrates crystals forming at surface or seafloor are not related to the oil zone below.
hydrocarbons do not form a slurry of crystals without the introduction of water from another source. see above .
hydrates are notoriously hard to produce or flow.
BP aka Amoco released similar statements in around 1980 with regards to Lodgepole , once the final report came out , we found out that despite fighting kicks for days , they were told to pull pipe.
floor reports circulating on the internet on this one , indicate seawater , followed by a gas kick
BP will have to explain using seawater to displace cement , or a plug or anything in a known overpressure zone.
we will wait on the official report ,once Obama wishes the well to stop.

  4. Thanks for the entertainment, one of my favourites .There is something very similar to this show and Ignatief coming to Canada. It could be the aristocrat and his socialite wife attempting to conquer the wilds.Actually there are many parallels, not the least of which is how the people in the show are just waiting for him to give up and go back to Manhattan.

  5. Ghost of a Flea has a link to a Theodore Dalrymple article on the issues in Greece; he also links to Margaret Thatcher speaking in the House of Commons.
    The money quote on Socialism:
“…rather have the poor poorer, provided the rich were less rich…”
If only it was Thatcher who still lead the Tories across the pond.

  6. It would appear as though the hydrates problem is continuing to plague the attempts to manage the Deepwater Horizon well. This is from today’s BP wrestles with oil spill hitch in Gulf of Mexico report at the BBC:

[…] a build-up of crystallised gas inside the box blocked the exit at the top and the device had to be put aside on the seabed for engineers to ponder their next move. […] Doug Suttles, chief operating officer for BP [said…] “As we were placing the dome over the leak source a large volume of hydrates formed inside the top of the dome, requiring us to move the dome to the side of the leak point.”

“The dome is currently sitting on the seabed while we evaluate options to deal with the hydrate issue. We believe that it’ll probably take the next two days to look for opportunities to overcome this challenge.” These could include using hot water to heat up the hydrates at the ocean floor, or using hydrocarbons like methanol to thin them out. […]

  7. If the numbers in this poll are true ,we are up the creek without a paddle. The media will take this as a huge victory. They can shape opinion to elect their people in Canada,as they did in the States. This will embolden them to no end. I would suggest reading my above link first, then go to this dismal one. http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=3006329
