Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Wow! That is just amazing! Just shows, don’t mess with mother nature. Thank you for sharing these pics.
Looks like the fires of Hell erupting.
Anybody see P.E.T. shovelling coal into the inferno?
and to think people were so concerned about AGW caused by burning carbon.
Beautiful photos. Makes my twisty bulb pull out it’s protest sign..
Thought I might see the Goracle or David Suzuki in one of the shots getting some more evidence for one of their global warming lectures.
Be a little tough to “hide the decline” after seeing these pics.
Come on folks, surely you can see what is going on here. Those diabolical Icelanders are growing their country. Soon their land will cover the entire North Atlantic. They must be stopped.
Or maybe the magma will make their island top-heavy and capsize it.
Such a small eruption, compared to, say,
Tambura.
“As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods: they
kill us for their sport.”
The consequences for European air transportation are no joke. Thousands of people, perhaps tens of thousands, are stuck wherever they are, tons of cargo are piling up undelivered, and relief is not is sight.
I wonder how many countries worth of carbon credits Iceland just burnt up. Nasty Iceland. They should be fined.
That Eyjafjallajökull is an Eyefull.
Great comment on WUWT last night:
Mike Odin (20:17:45) :
The economic damage now being inflicted by the
volcano ash upon the British and European economies
appears to be on a scale equivalent to the
economic damage recently inflicted upon Iceland
by the activities of UK and Europe.
This is simply a non-judgmental observation
unrelated to any karma or other
introspection.
The trouble with volcanic eruptions apart from interrupting air travel is that they produce colder weather, shorter growing seasons and sometimes killing frosts during the summer for several years.
Breaking News:
Early reports of the Dudley George family having already moved in with 6 two/fours of warm OV, a 1969 Stratochief with no driver side door, empty Kentucky Fried Chicken boxes, ripped lawnchairs and a beach umbrella they stole from Hooters are being investigated.
Having to pay child support ofr 19 years, trust me that a small eruption can land you in hot water.
We all know it is George Bush who caused this. We will just wait for the perfect moment to release details so Obamas dems can sweep the November mid terms.
Can you imagine the reaction of the WH if this volcano had happened the day O signed the Health bill. What did he say, armegedon didn’t happen, there are still blue skies. It took 7 days to create the world, so it could be expected God took a few days to react to Obama.
“The ash column is now 8.5-meters high(sic).”

Wait a second, goreacle said stuff from down there was a couple million degrees. Why didn’t that camera instantaneously vapourize…It’s a mystery
Now Micheal Mann/Hansen will have to produce temp graphs records delaying the cool down for a decade to use this as an excuse…..
Those loons in Oslo already blamed this on AGW….
Ma nature hard at work, ensuring Iceland gets a little bit bigger!
Who says they don’t make new land?
I listened as a moron bureaucrat in the UK told a press room that the flight delays and cancellations would last TWO DAYS. A voice from the back of the room asked if the Volcano had received the memo.
The last time Eyjafjallajokull erupted the eruption lasted TWO YEARS. Worse still was thatEyjafjallajokull’s eruption “irritated” her BIG sister into erupting too and Katla’s past eruptions have been, typically, 5 times larger than Eyjafjallajokull’s …. and much longer!
Hey, here’s some more good news. Not only does this volcano produce enormous amounts of SULPHUR DIOXIDE (producing sulphuric acid in the lungs) but it spews FLOURIDE too which forms HYDROFLUORIC ACID acid which can be absorbed through the skin, interferes with the calcium balance and can cause cardiac arrest.
And you thought it just delayed planes.
Astonishingly beautiful.
Astonishingly devastating.
You don’t want to mess with nature — or, I might add, its Creator.
Just a thought.
Is it really such a bad thing that we are cut off from Europe?
Vulcanic ash clouds are to be avoided by a wide margin. Signifigant damage to jet engines occurred with concentrations not visible as a result of that Russian Vulcano in Kamchatka.
Actually the ash is more dangerous to aircraft than appreciated by the lay-man….and some aviators.
Tear downs/disassembly of affected engines indicate not physical plugging by significant physical erosion of metal from compressor blades, as well as deposition of melted ash and the melted eroded metal(melted in the combustion chamber) on the turbine blades. These depositions not only interfere with the turbine’s efficiency but also break loose and cause further damage….as well as throwing the assembly out of balance…..the engine goes on self distruct. These suckers turn at about 30,000 rpm. Out of balance turbines shed blades which have been known to penetrate the fusilage like bullets.
Then there is this video clip from the Nutter Isles:
[Arrgh – messed up the link] Then there is this video clip from the U-Nutter Kingdom…
I wonder how long it takes for this to be blamed on global warming?
I hope Icelanders are made to pay for all the damage to Europe. Indeed they should be charged with eco-crime.
And they should be made to rename the mountain to something pronounceable.
Al Gore’s Weather (AGW): Copenhagen? ‘snuff for Moi. Ahm not going for Copehopenchangen.
“la-fg-volcano”.
“Copenhagen Airport remained shut down.”
“but the expedition had to be called off,”.
“A team of volcanologists from the university was hoping to fly over Eyjafjallajokull on Saturday to glean more information on how much longer the volcano might continue spewing ash, but the expedition had to be called off, the Associated Press reported.”

To those who are worried about the situation with air transportation, patience. After the Krakatoa explosion in 1883, it was 20 years before anyone went flying.
Dangerous AND eye-catching!
We should gather up all the Global Warming bullshiters like Al Gore and David Suzuki and throw them into the flaming lava in order to appease the fire gods of the vulcano!

OUTSTANDING!!!!
Thanks for sharing….
I find the last photo fantastic.
True awesomeness.
Of course, as the Icelanders expand their island, the waters being pushed aside will cause a worldwide raising of sea levels. Sorry about that, Maldives!

Atlantic Jim: “Is it really such a bad thing that we are cut off from Europe?”
Good point! Except that my sister’s over there!
I love the photo that Kate has featured. That red blotch looks like a prophetic human presence, like a man in red — sort of like Johnny Cash’ man in black: What’s he saying?
I’m not sure, but it’s something about a warning. It’s something about “don’t be so cocky; “there are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy”; there are powers beyond our human can-do and know-how before which we need to bow, before which we need to show deep humility.
we need Iceland to cap this mountain and then trade for something. maybe a first round draft choice for Trona.
funny sounding words from the island where the sun is so hot it melts the mountains as per CNN

Always been a fan of mother nature and this is one mean display. Volcanic lightning is a new one for me though, awesome.

“Russian airline ‘ignores’ ash warning
A RUSSIAN commercial airplane attempted to travel from Moscow to Rome by flying under the ash cloud from Iceland’s volcano, the Aviation Herald reported.
The flight, operated by the Russia’s Ural Airlines, had to descend more than 9,000 feet while it flew over Krakow, Poland. Later, the crew reported that the plane was low on fuel and was forced to land in Vienna.
The Vienna Schwechat Airport, which remained open despite the closure of the airspace, was investigating the plane’s engines for ash contamination. The Aviation Herald report did not say how many passengers were on the flight.
At least 26 countries in Europe closed parts of their airspace, leaving would-be travelers stranded across the globe as scientists warned that volcanic ash from Iceland could continue drifting across northern Europe for days to come.
Russia’s airspace remained open yesterday but air travel disruptions were caused by a lack of available airspace beyond its borders. Italian airspace was closed.
Meanwhile, a KLM plane conducted a test flight over Europe yesterday.”

I altogether agree with batb’s assessment.
God will not be mocked. The AGW minions are outed for the small creatures they are (like the rest of us). I could be wrong, but this powerful and “oh, how dreadful” show of nature—“heaven and earth in little space”—should put the AGW scammers in their place: “should” is the operative word. I doubt that their arrogance has even a tiny, truth-sized opening for what’s up.
Kyrie eleison.
In my job I deal with a lot of street folks and they seem of late to be more agitated than usual. Like a month of full moons. ” .. there will be signs in the heavens and on earth ..” Just sayin’
In furtherance to my earlier comment, I was approached by a young man in a large coat that had a Christian cross (inverted I think) in a circle with a bar through it imprinted on the front, and on the back “Bad Religion”, asking if I had any spare change. (O joy illimited) I swung around and told him that I am a Catholic and thus the baddest of the bad. It made my day … no my week. Is it just me or does Vitruvius seem to be more agitated of late, than usual?
[ It’s just you ~ I don’t do agitation, or Windows™ ~Vitruvius ]

Would you be so kind as to indicate what you really mean, because, despite advanced skills in English, I really couldn’t decipher this. I’m not suggesting you made a simple spelling error by saying “not” instead of “no”, because neither instance makes any sense to me.

First, sorry about the double post; hit the wrong button, but I’ve been working 70 hrs a week plus travel, and I’m a bit tired.
But seriously, AJ and DP: have you never visited London? Paris? Madrid? Vienna? Lisbon? Prague? I’ve been to all those, and others, in Europe. As I’ve said here before, I always return glad that I live in Canada, but that doesn’t mean I don’t find beauty, splendour, and wonder in each and every one of these.
You just have to look at the Astronomical Clock in Prague, designed 600 years ago when there were no computers or even truly accurate measuring devices, to be amazed at what men could do. I don’t care if you’re as much an atheist as Hitchens or Dawkins; attend a Sunday Mass at St. Stephens in Vienna, and hear that choir resound in a church built over 11 centuries ago, and you will be moved. No matter what Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have done, they cannot undo what the centuries of splendour in the Big Town exude. I would never denigrate the wonders of the New World to anyone, nor will I let anyone denigrate the wonders of the Old.
St. Stephens looks a little too Gothic to be 11 centuries old.
