  7. ‘Revnant Dream’ seems somehow surprised that a mammoth and extremely intelligent predator would take exception to being kept captive, harassed, and humiliated on a several times a day schedule.
    It didn’t shred it’s victims, which it’s only too capable of, it merely roughed them up …drowning them in the process.
    Wasn’t it just yesterday that folks were mocking the moron who climbed into the polar bear enclosure? Didn’t hear any calls from them to euthanize the bears; what gives? Double standards for predators?!

Next time that we mock the morons that are valiantly attempting to vary the diet of the once mighty polar bear,their kin at sea,we will feel the wrath of the shark’s teeth. BTW,mammoths are extinct.

The CBC National reported last night on the killer whale attack and death of the trainer,after describing the incident the reporter added in after-thought that “and then the police showed up” as his last statement. It gave me a mental picture of the cops questioning the sullen orca poolside but that quickly gets into Monty Python’s area. It’s funny how the MSM credibility just keeps slipping.

  20. Watching the news clip I quickly concluded that someone throwing a half-dozen pails of water into my face would get them a knock into the pool also. And a dunking once I had them in there.

  26. I recall a “sea-hunt” episode years back—-when Lloyd Bridges had a go-round with a killer killer whale.
    When these marine-land orca shows began….I wonder whether they were playing with fire or that the long standing fear/respect by mariners of Orca’s was mis-guided……
    My take is the ancient mariners were not stupid enough to offer themselves up for lunch…..

  27. Haven’t been here in awhile. Good point above that the US should take all of your murderers. Why not. They can be rehabilitated under the new Medical Health Care system to become butchers in slaughter houses to channel their aggression. We just don’t learn about killer whales and public health care, we think we can improve on everything on the globe. This is why we look ridiculous – OK just one of the ways we look ridiculous. Have to run to finish watching the theatre of the absurd on the telly – that Health Care Summit. Barack as moderator??? NOT.And not funny, eh? OMG – they have just let Joe Biden open his mouth. I hope he knows what page we are on in the song book. LOL

    Apparently, this whale is a very valuable bull or stud whale. The media is carrying the story that he is the salvation of the Sea World breeding program and helps shore up their depletion in the wild.
    I heartily agree – the whales don’t belong in tanks OUTSIDE of aquariums devoted to research and protective breeding. The performance whales have shorter lives as far as I know.
    Trainers should NEVER forget – these are wild animals. You have to pay attention at all times as if your life depended on it and, as we have seen, it does. The whale was being himself. We were trying to make him something else. I feel sorry for the trainer and her family. I think places like Sea World need to have their procedures and practices reviewed from the outside.

    The sheer arrogance and stupidity of that statement boggles the mind. The safety of the human was jeopardized ONLY when she got into the pool! I don’t live in the city; I live in a rural area with Black bears and cougar roaming through my neighborhood. I have a very healthy respect for them, and their lack of respect for me. ie. I’m very clear on my place in the food chain…sans gun, NOT at the top.

  31. Would all those calling for Tillikum to be shot kindly get a grip? You make it sound as if the whale is going to climb out of its pool and go on a killing spree. It’s not a danger to the freakin’ public.

  32. And yes, I recall that “Sea Hunt” episode. Even as a kid I thought it was hilariously bad. It described a killer whale as eating a scuba diver “in one gulp” which is simply ludicrous. Even if orcas ate humans — which they don’t — they couldn’t swallow one whole.
    The part that had me laughing out loud was when they cut between stock footage of an orca swimming at the surface and underwater shots of a pilot whale. The 2 species don’t even resemble each other.

    From what I have read, it seems that often orca attacks occur when someone falls or slips with a splash into the pool.
    Sharks and barracuda also attack when splashing happens. Its a sign of animal injured or in distress. No time to think… just hit and clean up!
    Tillikum is really sorry. He said, couldn’t help it. Just auto-instinct, you know. It was real fun and a break in routine, but I promise not to do it again, till next time.
