Reader Tips

Welcome to the Wednesday (EBD) Late Nite Radio.
Tonight’s selection was cued up for almost a year in anticipation of Kate’s birthday, but then a couple days beforehand it was removed by the user. It recently came back up again, so I figure I’ll post it while it’s still there. Not only do I love the song, I also like the heartfelt fan-made amateur video that accompanies it. The fact that it treats the lyrics a bit too literally at times is part of its charm; the personal-photo collage is quite touching and really brings out the emotional heart of the song.
Here’s Bob Dylan, accompanied by Robbie Robertson and the rest of The Band, singing Forever Young.
Your Reader Tips are welcome, as always, in the comments.

1. This article shows the incredible growth of US regional airports that Canadians flying in the US use rather that pay the exorbitant costs to fly from Canada. A study has found 2.5 million Canadians used a U.S. airport as a point of origin in 2008.
I am flying out of Buffalo to Florida at almost half of what I would be paying in Toronto besides the incredible hassle of going through security and US Customs.
The shear stupidity of having fees and taxes equaling the price of the ticket is government greed at its most blatant. Rather than reduce these costs they will be increasing them further driving millions of lost dollars to the US. Insanity!

2. Canadians flying from US airports means that we still have to do lots of deportations. Lots!
One wise LTTE supporter down my street has scratched LTTE logo off his car’s rear window, several not so wise remaining. We have to do lots of deportations, mind you!

3.
Last night I, and 25,000 other Team 2010 volunteers, were treated to a Dress Rehearsal of tomorrow’s 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies. I must tell you that it was THE MOST incredible show I’ve ever seen in my life!!!
Robert R
The Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics set the stage to the MOST worthy event in mankind..A competive athletic competion between all nations
I have been involved in most of the Broadcast events in the the last 45 years.. the Olympics are Special in every way
I hope Vancouver doesn’t F*** up by a stupid selection of the person lighting the home Torch, it signals the start of the Games.
I hope, given the English/French Connection, that the task is shared by the likes of a Gordie Howe & a Jean Bellevue (it is winter sports)

4. Aaron- I think you need to move. I had to google(Bing) LTTE, just to find out what it means. It isn’t part of the vocabulary, where I live, and that’s a good thing.

“George Galloway And The Left’s Alliance With Terror
Jewish Press ^ | Feb 10 2010 | Richard L. Cravatts, Ph.D.
The news that British MP George Galloway was the planned guest speaker at a February 1 Hamas fundraiser at Boston’s Palestinian Cultural Center for Peace would, in a morally coherent world, be alarming for those in the West who wonder why elected officials should be gathering support for a group of jihadist thugs whose principal efforts are dedicated to the extirpation of Israel and the murder of Jews.
Here again is yet another instance of the dangerous unholy alliance between Islamists, with a specific agenda to dilute Western institutions and destroy Israel, and leftists, who, in accommodating radical Islam, not only enable what Robert Spencer has called a “stealth jihad,” but help facilitate it.
Galloway, whom the wry commentator Christopher Hitchens once described as “being 100 percent consistent in support for thugs and criminals,” has been actively raising funds for his current pet project, Viva Palestina – including from those attendees at the Boston event. Palestina has as its purported goal to shuttle in “aid” to Gaza, but that assistance has been in the form of cash given directly to Hamas – designated as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) by the U.S. State Department, Canada, and the EU.
Galloway’s pernicious fundraising road show has also included visits to American universities. In October 2009, for instance, in an action that seemed to give credence to notion that there was, and remains, a sinister and dangerous side to anti-Israel activism on college campuses, the U.S. Justice Department initiated an investigation into possible illegal fundraising on behalf of Hamas participated in by UC Irvine’s Muslim Student Union (MSU). Based on a formal complaint by the Zionist Organization of America, the investigation centers on allegations that Galloway had raised funds for the Viva Palestina project.”

7. The suggestion around here is that the flame will be lit by either Wayne Gretzky or Terry Fox’s mother, or both of them together. The flame at the Richmond site was recently lit by “man in motion” Rick Hansen, so it shows that the committee is making sound choices. Suzuki blew his chance by casting this spell on the Games with his warm dance. It has only limited power, extending from about Squamish to Point Roberts, but it has kept the natives believing in the shaman black magic of AGW, even while the rest of the world freezes in the dark.
Quite ironic, no, that people can’t get out of DC airports to reach Vancouver, they are snowed in, we are three weeks ahead of normal schedule for spring around here. What a difference a year makes, we had a real winter here in 08-09.

Obese woman wins right for better parking spot

MONTREAL (CP) — A morbidly obese Quebec woman with various health problems has won her legal fight for a better parking spot.
Not only has Marise Myrand won that parking upgrade outside her condominium, but her condo association has also been slapped with a $10,000 penalty for refusing her request.
The move came in a precedent-setting ruling distributed Wednesday by a tribunal of the Quebec Human Rights Commission.

BC premier Gordon Campbell is guilty of similar tourist abuse causing loss of business.
The ferry fares are too high and the waits for boarding criminally long. We have lots of ferries in British Columbia.
Previous BC governments never overbooked trips so that ‘overflow’ had to wait for the NEXT sailing. The fares were partly subsidized to avoid the shock of full costs. There was always a restaurant.
These days the fares make you consider buying a boat. The sandwiches would be refused by the family dog and the elegance of a nice lounge, like the old CP ferry used to have, is forbidden.
Its a wonder that tourists ever return at all.
