An “independent” think tank closes its doors.
“It is with sadness that I must announce that after 15 years of quality public policy research, Canadian Policy Research Networks [CPRN] is no longer financially viable and will cease operations,” announced Dr. Sharon Manson Singer, President of CPRN.
Among the CPRN policy research areas now left orphan: “Diversity”, “Labour Market / Vulnerable Workers”, “Social Protection”.
You’d think all those “our values are Canadian values” folks would have stepped forward with their chequebooks before now, what with them vastly outnumbering us knuckledraggers and all.
Update. This is just plain cruelty.
To much of their time spent in the tank, and not enough common sense thought outside of it. No tears here.

Naw. Getting the government to pay for everything is a Canadian Value. Getting busy and paying for your own stuff is a knuckle dragger red neck beer and popcorn value.

We need to expunge the euphemism “government will pay” and sustitute “taxpayer will pay”. Then see which Canadians value it.
As someone who donates funding to think tanks – Fraser institute, mannng centre etc., I’m surprised that i have never heard of this one.
As for government financing I oppose it and think that allowing personal/corporate contributions to be deductable should is wrong (ditto political party donations).
Last I heard the Canada West foundation receives federal govt funding which makes me consider their opinions and research to be tainted particularly on issues that pertain to federal/provincal relations.

Gord Tulk, I suspect that many of the more lethal lobby/think tank organizations operate in the shadows and we do not get hear of them.
The Liberals being out of power must have hurt the bottom line of these people.
They should cut all public funding to all the universities and make the tuition cost in the disciplines of the sciences(chemistry, biology, physics, computers), mathematics, engineering and medicine/dentistry/veterinary medicine a 100% deductible expense from taxes. The move to privatize the universities would force many to close their doors and for the remainder to put the funds towards more useful academic endeavours. This would also empower high school kids to seriously look at the trades (colleges) for a useful skill, with which they could earn a living.
