A nation yawns.
From the comments – “‘The Conservatives spent too much money not fast enough and we think working a whole 8 weeks is good enough to sit on your duff for the rest of the year’ has to be one of the catchiest campaign slogans ever. Go for it, Ig.”

The count states that the libranos “can do better?” At what HRDC Boondoggles? MultiAdscams? Introducing the Mikey Bryant Killer Car Registry? At quadruple the proposed budget? Take e-Health nation-wide? With commensurate national-scale pilferage and entitlement theft and embezzlement?
After “running” the country for most of the past 100 years, should they get back into power, d’ya think they’ll finally getaround to fixing the f*cking apartheid aboriginal-killing system which they and their Roman Catholic sadists and child abusers have for so long, screwed up so royally?
Ya can do better? Sound to me like the libranos have finally come around to admitting that what they’ve done for the past century has really been all that great. More like the workof the natural f*cking-up party.
These are the clowns who’ll piss in your ear then convince you that it’s raining — then sell you an overpriced umbrella made by their Power-ful friends at their Mirabel Facotry run by a Willy Wanker clone on steroids — all this — and it would all be administered through three ministires and five Cabinet Ministers.
Do the ‘dickhead challenge’ count. Go ‘head. Just keep a basket handy. You’re gonna need a receptacle for your ass, so’s you can skulk out of town after midnight, with your head tucked under your arm.

The media will wallow in it. Endless breathless analysis. Probably the only time the dead tree people arrest, however briefly, the slide to oblivion.
A nations yawns is right!
Ignatiaff and his supporters are a bunch of potificating blowhards. I vote we ship them off somewhere!
What do you think would get Canadians riled up enough to get out and vote for the 900th time? Anyone have predictions on the percentage of eligle voters who would make it to the polls this time around?
tigerpants: if we don’t vote, then only the whackjob greenies will, and then we’re truly screwed. Shudder to think of a majority Green party government. A waking nightmare.
That in and of itself is always reason enough for me to go vote. Not that here in AB it isn’t a foregone conclusion the CPC candidate will win, and rightfully so. Still, in as much as another election is likely to be a waste of time and of course is nothing more than a power grab by the Libs (what’s new?), we all must perform our civic duty.
election? now?
reason I wont vote ‘con’servative:
http://envirolaw.com/2009/08/23/port-stanley-harbour/
the 2nd sentence says it all. da gubbamint (ie steveo harpoon’s gubbamint) wants to shaft these port villages by shrugging and walking away from truely ghastly levels of contamination that occurred ON THEIR WATCH. translation? big gubbamint bullying in action still.
reason I wont vote lieberal:
if I gotta explain you aint never gonna know.
reason I wont vote ‘new’ democrap:
jackyboy lay-it-on layton
reason I wont vote green:
bigmouth lizzie may because she (quoting now) “fundamentally agrees” all Canadians are stupid.
reason I wont vote blochead:
they dont run candidates in this part of the country.
reason I wont vote fringe single issue party:
uh, because they are single issue one-trick ponies ripe for abusing their new found power. (echoes of reforrrrrrrm party)
reason I wont vote independent:
usually they’ve been turfed out of one of the big 3. also those candidates are the type that take the podium and start ranting about, er, abortion? history of monetary reform? disbanding the armed forces? for about 1/2 an hour until the audience is comatose.
so, what to do?
capt_bob wrote: “It seems to me, from the article, that Mr. Rae is more than happy to give all the credit of a forcefull decision by The Igster to bring down the Govt. That way if and when it fails Rae has no direct connection to the decison, the he can be anointed.”
Rae was the candidate backed by Jean Chretien.
Let’s not forget that.
Well Layton could come out and say while he doesn’t like the Tories, he does see the economy starting to recover and it would be wrong to have an election and risk that now. Acknowledge that first job of any MP is to do what is best for the country and wonder why a party that has more to do with that success than his own would suddenly change horses.
“My Demarais sense is tingling …….

That’s my gut instinct, also.
Bob Rae is the brother of a Power Corporation executive. Jean Chretien’s daughter married into the Desmarais family, owners of the Power Corporation. Big oil. Chretien bragged about being an insider in the halls of power in CHINA. Prime Minister Harper is not exactly enamoured of the way the Chinese leaders do business.
Bob Rae expected to be coronated at the Liberal leadership convention, but Gerard Kennedy didn’t play ball and Stephane Dion won.
Is it payback time now?
Ladies and gentlemen, consider the possibility of the Bloc, NDP and Liberals joining forces in a coalition if the Conservatives get less than 50 percent of the vote.
They already have a signed agreement between them. They don’t have to trumpet this to the voters…they’ll go through the election as independent parties because they know the electorate are dead set against the coalition…but as soon as the election is over, they’ll rush the podium and claim power.
The Conservatives MUST consider this possibility and include this warning in their election ads.
Do you hear me, Conservative Party operatives? Gord Tulk, you’ve got connections, right?
When you are the federal Liberal leader and reader comments at the Red Star are spitting nails at you, then you know you’ve made a huge boo-boo. Way to paint yourself into a corner there, Iffy.
Eeyore:
i would pretty much guarantee it. If there is an election – a big if – I wonder whether plett and more importantly Findlay will stay on as president and campaign manager respectively as they were both appointed to the senate.
So this time for sure, Ignegatiff is a gonna huff, and puff, and blow down . . .but wait. . . Haven’t we heard this before?
If there was a change in government, could we expect any positive changes from the Liberals? How about *A* positive change from Liberals. Child care, anyone?$$$ Are there any new Liberal ideas to help Canadians, or are the Liberals still in withdrawal from not being able to help themselves once again to hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars?
Go back to sitting on your hands, Iggy. We don’t want them in our pockets!
I won’t be voting conservative again for a long time. Probably not until there is a new fresh batch of faces with some principle and backbone.
Reasons:
Auto bailout – take a stand you spineless wimps. You spent billions to hold minority.
HRCs – Really? You didn’t do anything to protect us?
Economic stimulus – Canada needs a deficit because other countries did it. And the other parties wanted it. Really? Same BS as auto bailouts.
Economic Un-stimulus – Why isn’t the government taking a machete to anything else that is costing money? CBC comes to mind, who knows what the hell else? Cut the umbilical chord.
Some of you are going to argue compromise was necessary. For what? Are our principles really that flexible? If any of the above led to the Socialists whining and screaming, paint the issues properly. Use paint, not sugar. These guys have no concept of owning the issues.
Here’s an example: EI issue. Cut EI to zero. It’s a wealth transfer mechanism. Either that or cut welfare to zero. What’s the difference? Nothing to the person getting the money. But no, there’s room for compromise right? Would it been so bad to risk an election to do what is right. PMSH will never be able to sleep again in his life knowing he did the right thing. He compromised principles and the opposition got what they wanted. The conservatives may as well not even be in government.
I’m voting on principle this time. I’m going to personally grill every candidate in my riding, may the best man or woman win (although I’ll probably have to refrain from spitting in the face of the dipper or greenie if I talk to them). Remember, your members of Parliament are your representative, not the party. F the party.
That’s my quick rant of the day. Sorry to not be so clear, but the point is princple, and I don’t think the conservatives have acted on principle. They’ve lost it. Done.
eljay at 9:20, Please remove your rose-coloured glasses after you pull your head out of your anal oriface. Which party do you think would deliver any of the criteria you mentioned let alone a lone member that you elect after the personal grilling you will foist upon them? It would appear the principal you are mostly concerned with is your former elementary school principal.
Warning: Do not watch following clip on an empty stomach, it may induce dry heaving.

Bob Rae: Really what we are doing is returning to normal, returning to a regular situation
Seamus O’Neil: What do mean by that?
Bob Rae: I mean we are opposing the government.
Hello Bob Rae Canada is not in crisis. There aren’t any issues of note to be voting over.
He babbles on through this interview and says NOTHING!!!
Power hungry bunch of BABIES.
I have to go find a mind scrubber….
Side note: Is it just me, or does Bob Rae’s eyes look like to pee holes in a snow bank? Sort of indicative of his narrow view of Canada and the world!
The Liberal Party is sabotaging our economic recovery for political gain, evil phucking narcissists.
Sept 2, 2009 @ 0837hrs
Who would you vote for in a possible fall election?
Conservatives 9643 votes (61 %)
Liberals 4223 votes (27 %)
NDP 1072 votes (7 %)
Other 895 votes (6 %)
Total Votes: 15833
Post by: Gord Tulk at September 1, 2009 11:45 PM
I agree with you Gord Tulk.
My post last night @ 11:34 p. m. also sees a Rae/Desmarais collusion:
” … Bob Rae is ominously lurking somewhere off stage left, surrounded by the Power Corps Boys.”
Methinks this whole fiasco is being encouraged and supported by the backroom bagmen of the LPC, the same ones who backed and pulled the strings of Trudeau, Mulroney (“Conservative” in name only), Chretien, and Martin — not to mention the ominous lurker now in China, Mo Strong.
When/if the Iggster is soundly trounced in an ill-advised election that a majority of Canadians don’t want, Bob Rae can enter, stage left, and become the next leader of the LPC without appearing to be the traitor-to-Ignatieff he actually is. Then, Power Corporation will be back to its old tricks of completely pulling the strings of the Liberal puppet$ — and to H*ll with democracy for the Canadian electorate.
That’s the agenda, I’m pretty sure. Time will tell …
ulianov, crawl back into your hole … or invest in some lighting so you can actually see what’s going on.
I had to chuckle at this sentence in the G&M article:
‘Mr. Ignatieff’s ^(sic) didn’t offer a central grand rationale for an election.’
Of course there’s a central grand rationale. It goes like this:
We’re the natural ruling party of Canada! If we’re not in power, that’s a terrible, unnatural situation which has to be rectified ASAP!’
“Well Layton could come out and say while he doesn’t like the Tories, he does see the economy starting to recover and it would be wrong to have an election and risk that now.”
I fear that this is wishful thinking. Jack Layton has shown himself time and again to be nothing more than an unprincipled buffoon who would stoop to any level to gain power. He wouldn’t admit that the economy was starting to recover if he had a gun held to his head.
That’s a good point about the possibility of a Communist Coalition forming. Those who are centerish but wavering between CPC and Lib may be deathly afraid of the NDP having any influence in gov’t. It may be enough to swing them Conservative.
Federal elections cost tax payers over $1/2 Billion and shut down parliament.
Is that the way Canadians want their taxes spent one year after the last federal election?
IMO:
The reasons Iggy is “hawkish” and want an election ASAP:
-Although unwanted, Fall is still the most “accepted” time for grumbling Canuck voters.
-The Obama “tingle” down south is in free fall, the more the Libs wait, the less they’ll be able to use the ‘tingle’ to their advantage (Photo ops and the likes)
-Lib “management” are telling Iggy to get moving or else a real leadership race might be sooner than he wishes
-Iggy does not want to be in Canadian politics forever unless he is Da Boss. NOW
AND HERE’S MY PUNCHLINE:
For the Libs:
Best case result: Another Conservative MINORITY
Second best case result: A Conservative MAJORITY
Third best case result: A Liberal minority
EXPLANATION:
Although the mainstream media is currently sprinkling “economic recovery” sightings, I don’t believe it one second…The economy will not recover anytime soon and manufacturing Provinces like Ontario and Quebec (Where the bulk of the seats are) will stagnate for years. If no new major inventions are created in North America soon, which would create 1000’s of needed REAL jobs, we are NOT returning to the same level of prosperity we had just 2~3 years ago: Forget it. The party is over folks. Witness the rise of Asia. America and Europe are going second place in a hurry.
All this to say that the Libs which are going nowhere fast, are willing to gamble giving Harper a real chance at a majority which then they will replace Ziggy and start a long run recovery with the ever loyal MSM to ‘mentally prepare’ the sheeple in believing that suffering and unemployment is a Conservative result. Watch for it…It has worked countless times in the past.
The Libs know they are no longer “The natural governing party” because of almost 4 years of Cons in power which is being proven poll after poll and their dream of regaining total and moreso QUICK control is now pretty much dead.
grok,
A communist/socialist coalition would have a landslide majority. Most voters, on reflection, realize there is no difference between the Liberals and NDP besides name and sign color. You and I both know there isn’t much difference. It will end vote splitting and the consolidation is just the natural step to one party rule. Besides, the word coalition just gives chavistas warm and fuzzies as the social revolution progresses.
The NDP have an opportunity to look good here.
They can support the government to allow the Tories time to effect Senate numerical superiority and ultimate changes, something they have voted in favor of.
They can also score points with the electorate by not supporting an election at a time when the country is getting up off its knees
It’s a wealth transfer mechanism. Either that or cut welfare to zero. What’s the difference?
eljay
The issue is which level of Government pays. The State/provincial responsibility for welfare is shifted to federal employee/employer UI funding.
The Provinces that fail to provide employment get a free ride on the backs of Provinces that are prudent.. via federal IE funding…
You are right that Welfare, by any other name, is a gimmick.. and that the end result is that the recipient will get help from Provincial coffers (Welfare) or Federal tax dollars IE/WC/Etc (he will be looked after)
In the US the Medicare debate suffers from a similar transfer. Years of abuse in that States (California for one) have been shifting welfare cases onto a Federal fund generated by SS mandated Employee/Employer contributions. This is going to get Ugly
“The NDP have an opportunity to look good here.
They can support the government”
This would be the next best thing to a Conservative majority and a swift, painful kick in the gonads for Ignatieff and Duceppe.
Alas, I’m thinking that getting his foot in the door is much more important than doing the right thing from Jack Layton’s perspective.
The prospect of another coalition attempt is just too enticing for the NDP to pass up.
This debacle is coming to a station near you whether we like it or not. I still think Harper made a bad tactical decision by not letting the three amigos take over when they formed the coalition. He might be in a position today to form a majority and the coalition, with Jack as the poster boy, could be wearing the current economic disaster.
“I still think Harper made a bad tactical decision by not letting the three amigos take over”
A bad tactical decision? Perhaps. However, Canadians of every political stripe can thank their lucky stars that the three obnoxious turds didn’t get their way. The economy would have gone down the toilet in a big way while the three buffoons argued who was going to wear the crown that day.
The Canada that would have resulted would have made Somalia look like Utopia.
