The Age Of Reagan

Steven F. Hayward stopped by the vast Silicon Graffiti production facilities in the suburbs of San Jose on Friday to discuss the second and final volume in his history of Ronald Reagan and his era. The new volume is titled, The Age of Reagan: The Conservative Counterrevolution: 1980-1989, and is due out this week.

At Pajamas Media. (sorry, linked fixed!)

  1. I dunno if I’m the only one, but I’m not all that excited about venerating Reagan.
I think he was a pretty good president, who made pretty reasonable (and sometimes bold) decisions, and who had (literal) courage under fire, but the hagiography seems a bit premature.
I was kind of weirded out last election at how most of the Repub candidates were falling over themselves to say who admired Reagan the most.

  2. Ronald Reagan:
Reagan was about leadership, or, following the leader. He was loved by his follwers, respected by his opponents, and feared by most of his enemmies. And all in spite of the fact that Hollywood was the driving force who made him what he was. But then the CBC-Radio Canada made Trudeau, and nobody seemed to mind
Conlusion: I liked Ronald Reagen, John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe. And I did like Al Waxman in the King of Kensington. But Trudeau…….forget it!!

  4. When all is said and done, history will prove Reagan one of the best presidents ever. And, he did it spite of the Leftist MSM & congress.

  5. I like Reagan, he openly belittled the socialists both abroad and at home, challenging them to call him on it, they never would because they never could.
Reagan was an honest intelligent man loyal to his country, the last to sit in the White house.

  6. I like Reagan also…the left just hate success…but they liked Russia and it’s system…and all the like ones floating around today..this will never change as they hate Democracy..

  7. The left here is still ticked that their poster governance system collapsed. The many dozens of my relatives that left Russia after 1990 still appreciate Regan, Thatcher and John Paul II.

  8. The left hated – and still hates – Reagan due to the crashing reality between their condescending, and elitist ‘intellectualism’ and his home-spun, middle American sensablity. They just can’t stand the fact that history has proven R. Reagan correct and that their defense of socialism was, and continues to be, completely wrong.
A few of my favorite examples of Mr. Reagan’s bedrock wisdom:
‘Here’s my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose.’- Ronald Reagan
‘The most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’
‘The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.’
‘Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.’
‘I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.’
‘The taxpayer: That’s someone who works for the federal government but doesn’t have to take the civil service examination.’
‘Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.’
‘The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.’ Ronald Reagan
‘It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession.. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.’
‘Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it’
‘Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed, there are many rewards; if you disgrace yourself, you can always write a book.’
‘No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.’
“Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” President
‘If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.’-
