Now I know you guys are going to come out with “but his father was Kenyan, how is that racist?”
It’s racist because he’s not Kenyan. He’s American. The author of those comments desperately wanted to draw attention to this fact so as to point out that he is different from other Americans, that’s he’s foreign, and black to boot.
That’s the very definition of racism. Just as how the word “niger” isn’t racist when used by blacks to refer to each other in an endearing way.
Now that said, this site is pretty “good” when it comes to talking about blacks, but Muslims… yikes. As for the rest of the rightwing-o-shpere. Whoa. It’s pretty heavy out there.

Arron D, I am beginning to understand your confusion. You think manufacturing = car industry?
Manufacturing includes pharmaceutical, furniture, textile, electronics etc., i.e. everything tangible. Unfortunately, Marx was right: surplus is created in manufacturing, not in service or retail.
If there is no manufacturing, there is no surplus in the economy. Service economy, even if long standing and successful, is always a niche economy, think Monaco or Maldives. Even Switzerland with its banks is not a niche service economy – they manufacture sh1t load of stuff locally and are very hard to outsource.
Large countries with diverse economy cannot sustain on niche services, because they would have to buy things outside and the cash flow would be as I described above – negative.

The debate between intellectual jobs and manufacturing jobs (as always) is detached from reality …
Manufacturing can remain as a very valuable segment of the economy of western countries BUT it has to be the highly automated manufacturing that produces highly technical positions which require specialized education and experience. On top of that we need to be manufacturing products where the cost of manufacturing is not the primary driving factor for the price of a good.
Basically, if we can manufacture 4 times as many products on 1/4 the workforce and the manufacturing cost is (less than) 10% of the sale price goods can be manufactured in western countries and manufacturing jobs can pay living wages.
Unfortunately, governments tend to fight to keep “low productivity” jobs rather than let those jobs disappear and try to encourage the development of “High productivity” jobs.

The only solution is to repatriate the industries that America (and Canada) lost.
What it will be, highly automated or menial labour is insignificant in the big picture – the thing is that only local industry creates surplus in the economy, because only local corporations and employees pay taxes into the infrastructure and invest into the same.
