My guess is she does it in September so she can campaign to save some of the moderate dems – the ones who could help her replace obama in 2012. If any dem can unseat a sitting black (notionally at least) potus it could be a woman running to become the first potus of that gender. Not impossible, but bill seems determined- consiously or other wise – to frustrate her quest.

Gord, I yield on the month of her resignation – it may even be this year. However, I continue to believe she will abandon Obama before the 2010 elections.
I don’t think that an argument based around ‘If it weren’t for’ or ‘without the wedding ring’ has much weight. That’s because ‘luck’ or connections and relations plays quite a role in all our lives.
Think about Obama. As Krauthammer says, he’s never so much as run a candy store. Without the BackRoom Gang, he’d still be a hack, a community organizer, albeit one with an inflated sense of his himself. That’s all he still is, but he’s been lifted by this Gang and plunked into the White House and told what to say by the teleprompter.
Think about Canada and the Desmarais and its connection to Chretien, Mulroney, Martin..and Rae.
Connections play a key role in power; we may hope that merit trumps connections but that would put reason over emotion, and sometimes, even often, it doesn’t work that way.

Obama (and the BackRoom Gang: BRG) brought her into his cabinet to control her. The agenda was to keep her ‘his’ rather than allow her to be free to criticize him. It was a difficult choice for HER to accept his offer. She probably knew that was their agenda. But if she refused, they’d taint her immediately as an opponent.
The second part of the agenda to bring her in to the Cabinet was to isolate her and render her irrelevant. Condoleeza Rice was not kept irrelevant by Bush but played a constant up-front, visible and important role. Obama and the BRG are keeping firm control of Hillary and keeping her to confined to irrelevant trips.
I even suspect sending Bill to N. Korea was part of this agenda. Why not send her?
I suspect that they might try to diminish her role and stature even more…suspecting that she may turn against them. So, they’ll set it up so that IF she resigns and tries for 2012, they’ll try to destroy her credibility starting now.
Will they now play on Bill’s ego and start to send him to various places as a substitute for her? That would act to not merely diminish her but to set up a perception that IF she resigns, it’s because Obama ‘also’ used Bill and that she was spiteful, mean..etc.
In other words – their current actions are to destroy her for a 2012 election.
But as far as foreign relations are concerned, Obama is so ignorant of history and economics and political theory – that he falls back on his biases (Honduras, Iran)..and the BRG has to keep him out of these areas. In general application, true.
However, we’re not talking about general rules here but rather a specific instance about whom we know many details. In Hillary’s case, Kate is mostly correct. Notwithstanding her Yale law degree and apparent intelligence, most people would never have heard of her were it not for her husband. The fact is that there is no lack of ambitious, self-promoting, apparently intelligent Ivy-league educated (or similar) lawyers out there. In the States many of them seem to be choosing the occupation of television or radio windbag these days instead of politician.
I’m not sure about the “two bit law firm” stuff, though. She probably would have made a local name for herself and among old, first-wave feminists through phoney-baloney “social justice/women’s rights” causes.
Hillary is a harpie, but I can’t blame her in the least for being pissed off on this one. Asking her what her husband would have thought about something would have been completely inappropriate.

I agree that Hillary will resign by the summer of 2010. By then Obummer’s ratings will really be in the tank and she will position herself to be a credible challenger to the Dem’s nomination to run for Pres.
It is really bad form for anyone to challenge a sitting president who wants to go for a second term but Hillary knows it is the only chance she’ll ever get to be President.
Her “best-before” date will have long expired by 2016.

My own guess and it’s pure and total speculation is that, ‘they’ are coming to a conclusion that Obama won’t get a second term. If that’s the case, that means that Hillary may get the 2012 chance. But she has to play it very, very cool now.
She can’t wait to resign until after the 2010 elections, assuming that the Democrats will lose in this phase. That would set her up as ‘fleeing the sinking ship’.
BUT, if she resigns BEFORE the elections next year, that resignation will contribute, hugely, to that same Democratic demise in the 2010 elections. She stands to be blamed, by the Democrats, for causing such a result.
What a dilemma!
Meanwhile, Obama and the BRG are intent on marginalizing her, belittling her and keeping her muzzled and under control.

The Democratic Party — which, as it stands, doesn’t like her all that much (I’m talking about the people who run the show) — would never forgive her for that, nor would a very substantial portion of reliable Democratic voters.
My prediction remains: she innoculates herself by remaining a team-player, stays until 2012, and runs in 2016. Backroom machinations against Obama before 2012 are political suicide for her.
Also: I don’t imagine for a moment that Obama’s team thinks they’re in trouble. They’ve realistically got 3 years to go, and so much in politics is unpredictable. I believe that right now they see 2012 as theirs to lose — even if they have to just hold on to make the finish line. The main qualification I would add is that everything *may* depend on the mid-term elections.
I have a bit of a different take here, but perhaps it’s because I’m helping my 13-year old try to understand Macbeth. Let’s not forget that before Hillary married Bill, she was a staffer on the Watergate hearings. She was the first student ever to give the commencement address at Wellesley. Many people, from students to political contacts, thought she had the potential to be a future senator or congresswoman (and some even thought she might be president).
However, Hillary failed her DC bar exams, but passed the Arkansas bar (ahem). She followed Bill to Arkansas, in her words “following her heart, not her head”.
Let’s pause here, folks, and consider. Hillary was brought up in the tony parts of Chicago. She then moved to one of the Seven Sisters and the hot house of Ivy League society, finishing up at Yale Law. Attracting attention everywhere, she was involved in political campaigns, nationally known research projects, and other high profile activities. She went from Washington to Berkeley and back, and now.. she was stuck in Fayetteville, AR. Population: about 35,000. Haute cuisine: Ribs and beer. Teaching law at a solidly second rate university. Imagine how deflated this obviously self-important woman felt. Avidly pursued by Bill, fellow lecturer, Rhodes Scholar, charmer, she decided to join forces, and almost immediately encouraged (pushed?) Bill to run for Congress. Although he failed, she married him anyway, and was rewarded when he was made Attorney General, and they got to move to the (relatively) cosmopolitan Little Rock. But her ambitions weren’t satisfied; Bill moved on to governor (and, according to all reports, other women, which doubtless spurred her on more).
I have no doubt Bill wanted to be President, but I don’t think he had the discipline or the drive to accomplish it on his own. Hillary clearly had both in spades. Like Macbeth, Bill was pushed beyond his own ambitions by his wife.
What I see now is frustration, pure and simple. I’m sure she knows Bill would never have made it to the White House without her. She doubtless thinks she is the smarter of the two (and may well be). As SoS, she sees the empty suit getting all this adulation and credit while she’s ignored. The final straw had to be when the press once again flipped all over Bill for the NK deal. Even when he’s done and gone, people still love Bill and still ignore her. She is only human (as much as I dislike her, I don’t think she’s Satan), and when she got the mis-translated question, I really don’t blame her for flipping out just the littlest bit.

I’m not sure if Hillary took the SOS position because of her campaign debt. Certainly, it was absolutely vital and necessary for the Obama Gang to get her into his cabinet where they could control and marginalize her. And they certainly made it public that they had offered her the position. If she had turned it down, she would be ‘tarred and feathered’ as a ‘sore-loser’, as anti-the Democratic Party and made, effectively, an outcast.
The point isn’t HER opposition to Obama, but HIS desire to constrain and control her, as Americans begin to draw back from him.
As for NKorea, I doubt if it was Bill’s smile that achieved the release of the two girls. What was offered by the BackRoom Gang of Obama, to N. Korea? We don’t know, but Hillary could have made the same offer.

She lost to Obama largely due to her and her husband’s fundamental oversight on how the Dem primaries had changed since Bill won the nom in ’92. Most of them had been changed from winner takes all first past the post to percentage of votes gets that percentage of delegates.
They thus ran on the idea of finishing in first in all of the big states and thus getting all of those states’ delegates. And indeed she did finish first in ALL of the big states.
But she did not win by large enough margins under the new rules to offset the gains obama had in smaller states – states where the Dems were very strong – where he ran far to the left of hilary. That blunder cost her the nomination.
