  1. Ahh, the ever tolerant left…
Well here is another Redneck out in the Boondocks who is tired of being called just about everything in the jack booted, fascist lefty dictionary and then told to cough up the dough to pay for these things.
Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC all a bunch of racist, rednecked, homophobes until it comes time to pay the transfer cheque then it’s “we’re all part of the great Canadian family…”
Time to go PH Harper or not.

  2. I for one am tired of funding the stupid whims of the Separatists in Quebec. Quebec it’s time for you to get your secessionist leeching asses moving and separate from the ROC because no one gives a shit anymore. Get lost, scoot bye bye la maudit.

  3. Osumashi, there is actually one, and only one good reason to fund this crap: kickbacks. Lots of juicy little contracts, one hand washing the other in that lovely, goooolden social grease that lubricates Liberal politic’s slide along its well worn track, money. Money money money, my friends.
As in Toronto’s recent adventure in Liberalism, one must ask, why the hell does it cost over a million dollars to have a bunch of semi-clad goofs walk down a public street? Kickbacks, obviously.
Naturally the people involved are upset that they aren’t going to get their expected golden [money] shower this year. So, again naturally, they call up their local Useful Idiot(tm) in the MSM and engage in a nice little propaganda war.
As for the actual gay people who wanted to have a parade, I say go to it! Parade all you want. Have a freaky deaky festival of parading.
But -you- pay for it, eh? Leave my tax dollars out of it.

  4. What was left out of the story of course, is that the concern arose because the Canada Day parade was not funded, whereas this other event was, IIRC

  5. kkkkorrectly done. Simply beautiful. That’s the way to go. I am learning too.

  6. From what I read, this is a festival attended by over 55,000 people annually. They lost $155,000 in Federal funding. If the festival is that important to the people, couldn’t they fork over $3 each to make up the short fall?
Also the “Marquee Tourism Events”…..never heard of this event, so either it isn’t “Marquee” or “Tourism” driven….it probably is an event. Let’s look at Tall Ships in Halifax, PNE in Vancouver, Calgary Stampede in Calgary, CNE in Toronto, Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, Jazz Festivals in Montreal, Carnaval in Quebec City….these are “Marquee Tourism Events”.

  7. Ahhh the smell of Gay Pride… would you not be prouder if you could stage a parade without Government Funds in the middle of a recession?
Why not get your lazy gay asses off the bench and raise the rest of the money yourselves? I mean when our softball league needs money I do not write an article in the paper saying the current Government hates teenage girl softball players.
$155,000 would fund our league for 10 years, not one day where the only benefit is guys get to wear something pretty and women get to wear comfortable shoes. If you cannot get gay enough on 1.845 Million then you have a bigger problem than money.
I hate social special interest groups, money sucking wastes of taxpayer funds based on some false sense of entitlement because of “perceived” persecution.
Banning the parade would be political, not funding it would be fiscally prudent.

  8. Phantom, why isn’t there rioting in the streets? Gays are crying for any reason they can think of and politicians are making money off of our backs.
I call pig crap on the lot of them. Fire these people out of a cannon.

  9. It makes a mess of the alliteration, but the Gazette is actually an Anglo newspaper.
How bout: “Squareheads Squeal for Sissy Subsidy”
    Too wordy, you think?

  10. Can someone tell me what “gays” are so proud of…other than their quilting abilities?

  11. just more birkenstocks at folkfests ?.
I heard the minister explaining that Quebec already has 42% of the festival funding. Ontario at 25% and that maybe some of the other provinces may what some of our own money too.

  12. Has The Gazette sent the festival in question any of their money?
It is not the garrish that concerns some people. It is the bare-ish;)
We thought that was kind of illegal in public. No?

  13. “The official version would be easier to swallow”
I bet it would be. I bet it would be.

  14. $Billions & $Billions wasted very year for some happy day feelings.
    Cut. Cut. Cut . . .

  15. Come on now….calm down everyone. After all, the first thing that is taught is that they’re entitled to their entitlements.

  16. Every human being has a right to walk around with a limp wrist.
And they also have the right to pay for their own parade.

  17. I worked in the restaurant industry in Toronto through the 80’s and into the 90’s. I had a lot of gay friends and acquaintances. Most of these folks hated the gay pride parade and the people in it. What they wanted was to be treated with respect and to be left alone. They wanted to be treated as people above all. Not “gay” people. They wanted to talk about writers, musicians, artists, chefs, lawyers etc. Not gay writers, gay musicians, etc. They just wanted to be in the main stream and carry on with life. Their sexuality didn’t define them and they didn’t want to force their sexuality on anybody else. Just be normal. The gay pride parade isn’t normal and the people in it aren’t normal.

  18. More hate and vitriol spewed forth by SDA. Just a note, the Saskatchewan marriage commissioner who refused to marry same sex couples and consequently was fired, lost his appeal at the Human Rights Commission. I even doubt if do any better if he appeals to the Sask. Court of Appeal. Great, once in a while justice prevails.

  19. Yes that’s right “T” …. pointing out the arrogance and hypocrisy and idiocy of lefties is “Hate”.
    Out of your league T-wit!

  20. gord @ 5:47
Does this mean that there are, to borrow from Ezra Levant, “Official Gays”? And that they, like other “Official Whatevers”, have the ear of the government and do NOT represent the vast majority of the group they say they represent?

  21. The left are in quite a blather, one of their members on the list of “Entitled” has been told NO. Saying no to liberal/socialist supremacist isn’t acceptable, I’m sure they’ll hold rallies and stuff espousing their usual non-tolerance.

  22. T:
To paraphrase Ashleigh Brilliant, sometimes we need what only you can provide: your absence.

  23. Kathryn said “Does this mean that there are, to borrow from Ezra Levant, “Official Gays”?
Could be. I wouldn’t be surprised. The point I was trying to make was that some people are plumbers, bowlers, music lovers who happen to be gay. They don’t want to be known as gay plumbers or gay bowlers. Being gay is their personal life. I do the same cringe when someone tells me they are gay that I do when someones asks me if I’ve heard the word of God. It means there is tons of baggage coming that I really don’t want to know about.
Reminds me of the New York St Pats Parade. You can march in it if you’re Irish and your gay. They just don’t want gay Irish in the parade. It’s more than just semantics.

  24. Name calling?
    What name calling?
“Today I am proud to be a frog.” –
Jean Chretien at the 1981 Constitutional signing.

  25. Being proud isn’t about flaunting your “ways” in everyone’s faces, that’s called arrogance. It would be appropriate to have that word substituted in for “pride”.
Even though I don’t agree with homosexuality I never use to have a problem with gay people themselves, but in the last few years I have been seeing more and more actions taken from the gay community that I frankly could never endorse any of their causes or activities.
I’m heterosexual. I’m not “proud” of it, I just am. I honestly don’t feel the need to go around yelling about my orientation into peoples faces.
Take it from a person who is comfortable with his being, “YOU BRING THE SHIT STORM DOWN ON YOURSELVES!!!”
BTW, them naked guys are probably dissappointed that they didn’t get thrown in the slammer for a night. It would have been heaven for them to be the b!#ch for a night.

  26. “Today I am proud to be a frog.” –
~Jean Chretien at the 1981 Constitutional signing.

    Just as well.
The little Liar from Shawinigan was never a Prince.

  27. Just a note, the Saskatchewan marriage commissioner who refused to marry same sex couples and consequently was fired, lost his appeal at the Human Rights Commission.

Gee, that’s a real surprise and certainly proves your point. (Although in a manner that you did not intend.)

  28. T as a Saskatchewanian the HRC should be abolished immediately. It is a farce and blot on a free and democratic society. HRC across the country are a horrendous infringement on the rights of people to speak and act as they believe appropriate. Maybe it’s time for Brad Wall to recognize what a blot the HRC is and end this taxpayer witch hunter. The Marriage Commissioner should received government funding to appeal this farce all the way to Supreme Court of Canada if necessary. However, the SCC is such a pit of left wing bias that might be bootless enterprise.

  29. The poor dears can’t figure out how to make do on 92.25% of their budget. In a down economy. Get real.

  30. The town of Cayuga Ontario just celebrated its 150th anniversary of incorporation. The events went on for a whole week. There was a car show, a parade, a soap box derby, dinners, church services, craft show, carnival rides, fireworks, all kinds of things. For a week.
I doubt they spent a million dollars. I strongly doubt it.
But Gay Pride can’t put on a parade for less than a million bucks? And I’m a racist/bigot/homophobe spewing forth hate and vitriol for saying “kickback”?
Kkkome on trolls, you can do better eh?

  31. “Find a corporate sponsor for your parade. And stop whining”
    Jokes come on down! 🙂

  32. Where do we get our $155,000 for the Knuckledraggers Pride Parade?

Sorry Fritz, can’t use the term Knuckledragger any more, it’s become politically incorrect. The current accepted term is “mouth breather”.

  33. this is great news…once again, SH can kiss goodbye to any seats in Quebec and any hope of ever getting a majority. When he fails yet again to secure a majority, he will be hung by the Tories who remain in the “Conservative” party and are at this very moment plotting his demise.
thus, Canada’s brief experiment with letting some of the prairie folk run the show for a while will come to its welcome close.
