Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Good luck with that…..
Drill them a well and install a pump…..the pump is stolen the first night and nobady gives a crap…..except for craping down the now open well. Been there seen it….
I roll my saving throw against environmental propaganda.
The toilet looks like a good idea, it looks expensive too.
At the University of Calgary the water problem was solved in the year 2000 thusly:

Cheap water for everyone, no infrasture needed.
Just sitting down to lunch break. Fine topic
Cheap water for everyone, no infrastructure needed.
At first glance, I thought it looked … er … shitty.
‘Tur[ne]d out I was right!
Looks like a piece of crap to me…
I worked on a Federal project that had ‘bio’ toilets. The first thing the Roadmaster did was strap them shut, get an outhouse and dig a hole.
Dreams, schemes and scams.
Nobody does them better than greenie “reformers”
If the “west” would quit trying to save the d world idiots, they might just rise up and doo it themselves
NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION
Kinda gives a whole new meaning to “polishing a turd,” doesn’t it?
Is this like clumping Cat litter?
Where’s my +20 Potion of “Putting up with Commie Stupidity”….oh…got it. JD and 7.
Need a pair of +100 “Boots of kicking a Socialist in the Nards”…
I’m sure in theory this is a dandy system. At least from the perspective of those promoting it.
However, in practice, if I were a dirt poor person in the Third World, the last thing I would need is some meddling do-gooder, who smells like hand lotion, coming along and trying to force me to wear his latest new-fangled solar propeller beanie. I think I’d have enough crap to deal with. Just give me a goddamn shovel and a diesel generator, already!
You can polish a turd!
BTW what is the Gore’s Nobel medal made of?
The latest green thingamajigie seems to always be usefull in Africa, good enough for them, what do they need running water and whatnot for.
Since the product has a perceived value, it might even be used as a form of currency. I see entrepreneurial possibilities in commerce/bartering.
Puts a whole new meaning to ‘putting down a deposit’.
24 hours ago I would have laughed at this thing, but since the green revolution rolled over the republicans, I keep looking at my mercury filled light bulbs and saying you just know they are going to make it mandatory. Mark my words.
Snagglepuss. The thought of curency brings to thought old westerns where some guy tries to bight the coin to see if its real. How does that picture grab you?????
Tony W- But it’d be a sure-fired test of its authenticity!
A bigger concern wouuld being in a long checkout lineup trying to come up with the exact change. Too disgustingly awful to think about.
I would hate to have those things jettisoned from a passenger jet a 30,000 feet.
I’m not all that crazy about science fiction, although there were a few stories I read when I was a kid that really made an impression on me. Usually it was the ones with a humourous theme. One such clever story was called “The Big Pat Boom”, by Damon Knight, I believe.
If you’ve ever read it, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Even though it was written in the 50’s, it really says a lot about our current age — particulary when it comes to using poo-poos as a monetary system. I think most of you rascals would get a kick out of it.
Looks like the last crapper was eating “Wheatabix.”
The Gardiner CH4 is a waterless toilet that creates an urban infrastructure in which PEOPLE trade their waste for biofuel…….
……excrement in a sealed container which the user empties into the biodigestor, sited at an outdoor location
Think about it.
They aren’t “trading” their waste for bio-fuel.
They’re walking around in public, in a city, carring their loose shit in tupperware, or a 5 gallon bucket by hand on foot, to another location, who knows how far from the “waterless toilet”, and then manually dumping it into a “bio-digestor”* which probably uses more energy making those polyhedron poop pellets than is actually contained in one of them.
This, in some 3rd world country where folks don’t have the caloric energy to swat flies.
“Look, mama, we have fuel to toast our Soylent Green!”
:>P
Good luck with that and where can I get your job, Einstein?
*(whatevah’-this is where the “magic” is)
our most famous crusader for the green ,Dr. Suzuki suggests we convert our agriculture to be the same as Cuba where they take their “night soil” out and plow it into the fields by donkey. sustainable agriculture in a place that cant even feed itself. this is shamelessly shown on CBCpravda without question. meanwhile CBCpravda encourages the 100km challenge without a single thought how that would work in a place like Trona where 3 million folk would have to get everything but their latte and chardonney from a distance as far as Owen Sound or what the prairie farmer is going to do with his surplus when his customers can only from as far as North Battleford.maybe the challenge could be held in Ft. Mac. duck ala oil slick.
Yeah Cal2, and Dr. Suzuki (the freakin’ genetic researcher!) calmly ignores the fact that using raw “night soil” as a source of fertilizer is what makes certain parts of China the source of all the new flu in the world every year. Plus other even less savory ailments.
Don’t get a paper cut, Farmer John.
Cal2; I’m pretty sure TO is exempt…

Are you sure that’s not Soylent Brown®?
I loved this line:
As Henry Miller said in 1961, “Whenever a taboo is broken, something good happens, something vitalizing. Taboos after all are only hangovers, the product of diseased minds, you might say, of fearsome people who hadn’t the courage to live.”
What a vacuous & ignorant statement. The alternative explanation is that taboo’s are borne of bitter experience and provide a brake against stupidity, cupidity, and endless experimentation that almost result in many more problems.
Modern plumbing is a wonder which has done more for public health (nevermind just general pleasantness of life) than any other technology ( especially MEDICAL technology), so before messing with it I’d be subjecting any alternatives to quite some harsh scrutiny: economic, social and health related.
Doody Dodecahedron?
I think it’s a Icosahedron.
Site says the material for the little gem originated from a horse.
Which is a relief. Kind of.
Brings to mind the old Filipino peasant who told an irritating Peace Corp worker, “I’m more interested in what goes into my bowels than what comes out of them.”
BTW, whatever happened to that noxious organization? Does it still exist?
Someone already said it but I’ll say it again: Leave the Africans alone so they regain their self sufficiency. After 50 years of NGOs, Peace Corps and you name it, they’re actually worse off!
As for current toilet technology, there has to be a better way than wasting several gallons of precious water with each flush. We’ve investigated compost toilets designed for isolated dwellings, but they seem to be subject to unexplained failure about half the time making it necessary to situate them out of direct house proximity. That then equals an outhouse which is not exactly cutting edge technology.
That’s all the thought I’ll provide that question today. Soon enough, TJ’s followers will come up with some rube goldberg contraption we’ll be mandated to install.
Stopped walking the dog around the neighborhood to avoid the necessity of not only packing plastic poo-poo bags but of utilizing them. He now gets walked on a beautiful bike trail where I can golf “it” into the weeds using any handy stick with a suitable diameter.
