hhehehe
Reporters are now thought of less then lawyers…
How many reporters does it take….
Heard the one about the two blonds and the reporter….
🙂
Have to laugh at the Mop&Pail opinion poll today regarding their revamped web page look….seems to have gone wrong.
May the lot of you rot in Hell.
Geeze this bugs me.
The cliche is “Burn in Hell!”
The body rots in the grave and the soul burns in Hell.
🙂
The Cheney speech today, a poll.

It’s so true. Yet if people want to cut spending on MSM’s to enhance tax spending why fight it?
Of course Oz, by definition, ‘burning in hell’ would imply MSM journos have souls. Your “corrected” cliche therefore remains debatable.
i would say that as i did not vote for it and will not accept it the damn state can go bankrupt and let the chips fall where they may. the mexicians might go back to mexico. the politicans can starve to death and the rich movie stars can eat shit if they wish. of course they won’t they will move to a venue with better tax laws and more freedom. note freedom. good for some but not for others.
did i miss something ? sun, golf and beer. could be i misread.
While it is always fun to watch the media squirm, in this case I gotta agree with the sentiment of the pulled editorial.
California voters ARE idiots.
“California voters ARE idiots.”
Well … perhaps, but certainly no more than the millions who put this one-trick pony in the White House.
One of the most productive places on earth ought to be able to find a balance between what the citizenry regards as its due and what they’re willing to pay for it.
I originally thought I’d say something just because the Bee is my hometown paper, and that I’ve enjoyed telling them to go to hell for past 13 years whenever they solicit me for a subscription. However, in browsing down the comments, I came across this one from Atlantic Jim.
“While it is always fun to watch the media squirm, in this case I gotta agree with the sentiment of the pulled editorial.

Sir, you tar as all with the same brush. If you seek to say that we are idiots for voting these proposals down, I suggest you look at how high the taxes and fees already are, and then tell me that we have a revenue problem. The legislature gets plenty of money to pay for essential services, but the deficit goes far beyond that.
The public unions are killing this place. Not only are the salaries higher than these people could ever get in the private sector, they have retirement packages that are not logically much less fiscally sustainable. The blame for that goes to the legislature.
Then, if you are looking for idiots, look no further than the pie in the sky morons who pass every bloody bond that comes with enough whipped cream and chocolate sauce to cover the smell of what they really are. I vote against everything that signs us up for more debt, and I and people like me were the ones voting on Tuesday. Generally, we are outnumbered, but the usual liberal twits must have been in a long line for state paid aroma therapy, and they missed out on the whole thing due to the bliss they were experiencing. Have a good day.
If you’re a descendant of the Joads, you’re probably thinking, “Oh Geez, not again”.
NOW, Maybe someone could write the sequel and inevitable end to The Grapes Of Wrath !

California population = 38 million est.
California 2009 budget = 143 billion
Canada population = 34 million est.
Canada 2009 budget = 232 billion
Include provincial spending anywhere and you have TWICE the govt of wacky California. Apparently the Loyalists and their descendants haven’t got off their knees for a quarter of a millenium.
Uhhh yeah, petey boy
comparing apples to oranges just shows that you’re an innumerate fool….
Canada = sovereign country, must pay for things like defence, foreign affairs, foreign aid, plus we have that great white north which costs in subsidies because we want to keep people living there, etc, etc, etc
And, of course, the federal gov’t pays for federal stuff and the provinces for their own stuff – ya know, two levels of government, as per the Constitution. Californica on the other hand is just a state, with none of the federal level’s expenses and concerns….
Now get on your knees and beg for forgiveness for your superficiality, knave. You are no better than the Austrian import’s administration when it comes to sums.
BTW, sunshine – Californica is about to go bankrupt. Canada is the G8 nation with the soundest finances. Contrast and compare… contrast and compare.
Tanker, your point is well taken. Still, one may note that since the California National Guard is numerically larger than the Canadian Forces and has more and better stuff, we are getting mightily reamed for our tax dollar up here in Cancukistan.
We do have twice the government Californika does. Our crooks are just smarter than their crooks, is all.
Sorry Tanker old buddy.
Didn’t realize I was dealing with an anal, pencil necked dickhead.
Hey Tanker.Good stuff.Looks like you hit a soft spot(besides his head) with the lieberal pete d!!!! When you can’t refute the facts, resort to name calling. Or as the saying goes….what is a racist? A conservative winning an argument with a liberal.
Good point @9:44 PM,Phantom. And just who do we have to blame for that fiasco of a fact? Only one guess allowed(or needed).
Maybe a better comparison is:
Ontario pop = 13 million est
Ontario budget = 97 billion (2008)
Lets be Frank. Not a State or Province that has existed hasn’t had it share of buffoons & crooks.
That us the Citizens enthusiastically voted for at the time. BC is famous for them is Alberta. Its only a fluke we have Harper, a real economist as PM.
I am sure the good folks of California know the situation better. Will hold collective noses or not to vote accordingly. I know I’ve had to voter know stinkers in to stop a lesser disaster. The fact is politicians feel entitled with no obligations towards the tax payer. In fact they despise them as necessary. This is an age of Elitism. All we can do is stop the least damage these ego’s dish out.

PLEASE !
Revnant ….. start using spell checker…. please?
I have to go along with pete d and Phantom on his one we are getting reamed tax wise , it’s rediculous, , we’re just lucky that our country has all this free stuff like gold, oil, diamonds, silver, nickel, and 3/4 of all the fresh water in the world just laying around.
” Ahhhh, he, hehe…that would be ..”ridiculous”…
I wonder what the percentage of Californians who hold productive jobs actually is?
Productive as in Creating value in the global economy. Like building things or farming.
Not as in serving burgers, selling crap, working for the government, entertaining and so forth.
I also wonder what percentage of productive workers are paying taxes.
Paying taxes as in being legitimate citizens as opposed to illegal residents and workers.
To answer my own question I found the following:
California Labor Market Info from the Employment Development Dept. Government of California.
The Spreadsheets on the top are comprehensive.
Looks like service industries outnumber all the productive jobs in the state.
In the civilian arena:
18,580,900 employed people in the state.
2,131,200 unemployed = 11.5% UE rate
14,764,900 total of all industries
14,445,400 non-farm
2,013,900 total goods producing jobs
653,500 Construction
1,333,600 Manufacturing
842,300 Producing durable goods
12,431,500 Service Industry Jobs
Some notable sub groups here:
2,145,300 Professional and Business Services jobs
813,500 Financial
1,507,600 Leisure and Hospitality
1,442,000 Health Care and Social Assistance
218,400 Social Assistance Workers
1,761,500 Educational and Health Services
461,100 Information
88,900 Publishing (not internet)
46,300 Broadcast (not internet)
Four Categories of Motion Picture Industry ?
158,000
154,100
122,600
31,500
266,400 Real estate and leasing
To summarize: about 2 million people supporting everything else.
California is Forked!
I’m with the California voters. Make the civil servants take a 10% paycut. Problem solved. Your welcome.
Pete:
Sorry, buddy, but the apples and oranges referred to by tanker are quite correct. Just a few days ago, Kate posted a link to a Washington Post article that showed ALL government spending in the US was close to 39% of GDP, and all government spending in Canada was just a bit higher at 40% of GDP. It’s hard to make the claim that Canadians are wilder spenders than the US.
But most important, and again referring to Tanker’s apples and oranges: YOU COMPARED CDN$ TO US$, YOU ECONOMIC MORON. That $232 billion CANADIAN at an average last year of $.80 US = $1 CDN works out to $185 billion US – yes, that’s higher than California, but as pointed out previously, the Feds have a lot more responsibilities than any state or province. And, in fact, of that $232 billion, almost half ($97 billion) is direct transfers to persons or other levels of government (CPP, EI, Baby bonus, transfers to provinces and cities, etc.). Close to another $40 billion is interest and debt payments. Add it all up, and the Feds run all their national responsibilities outside of those mentioned above on less than $100 billion, or about $3,000 per capita – military, courts, border guards, immigration, foreign affairs (including embassies and consulates around the world), natural resources, national parks, etc., etc., all on less than $10/day per capita.
Now, you were saying?
Kate – I have been enjoying your posts about the death of the print media / major media outlets. However, it just occurred to me that media conglomerates might still have a purpose – legal defense. I know you were supported by many donors during the recent lawsuit again you and others. But you have one of the largest blogs around. What about all those small, out of the way bloggers who do not have the readership to drum up the financial wherewithall to legally defend themselves? Is there a move afoot to create a ‘blogging consortium’ in which liability could be shared? Granted, large media outlets failed miserably in their duty to report the news – but perhaps the concept of a consortium still has a purpose?
