US Economy Saved

With not a moment to spare.

The push to get the bill through before the holiday weekend was so frantic, members of Congress didn’t have a chance to read all 1,071 pages of the document before they could vote.

The Savior will sign it after he gets back from his three day weekend.

Don’t forget that the The Big Owe will be buying up all the mortgages of the po’ folks and financing Acorn to propagandize them self-same po’ folks.

  2. What are the chances that the Senator who flew back from his mother’s funeral (on a private jet, no less)even saw the bill before he voted yes?
But really, who are we to complain about legislators not reading bills before voting? The leader of the party decides how his MPs will vote so there’s no point in them reading the bill, much less understanding it.

  3. OK, that’s it. I’m going to declare personal bankruptcy. No need to pay these nasty debts. Not my problem….
The only problem I seem to have is being employed. Damn! I’ll have to contribute to my own welfare….

  4. Hey. Pssssst. Over here. Ever hear of Europe ?? It is ok for the media to report on the mess the European Union is in now. Why now ? Because George isn’t in the WH anymore. The EU has always been in worse economic shape but the media had to bash America. Don’t emphasize those Americans now that the media’s puppy is top dog. Europe is the latest and greatest fearmonger of the day.
While reading below, remember; European banks are leveraged 3 times more than North American ones.
It also explains why the Greenback has been appreciating through all this. There is a reason for everything – it is just that the media has selective reporting syndrome.
[ Austria’s finance minister Josef Pröll made frantic efforts last week to put together a €150bn rescue for the ex-Soviet bloc. Well he might. His banks have lent €230bn to the region, equal to 70pc of Austria’s GDP.
“A failure rate of 10pc would lead to the collapse of the Austrian financial sector,” reported Der Standard in Vienna. Unfortunately, that is about to happen.] telegraph.co.uk
[ Stephen Jen, currency chief at Morgan Stanley, said Eastern Europe has borrowed $1.7 trillion abroad, much on short-term maturities. It must repay – or roll over – $400bn this year, equal to a third of the region’s GDP. Good luck. The credit window has slammed shut.
Not even Russia can easily cover the $500bn dollar debts of its oligarchs while oil remains near $33 a barrel. The budget is based on Urals crude at $95. Russia has bled 36pc of its foreign reserves since August defending the rouble.] t
[ In Poland, 60pc of mortgages are in Swiss francs. The zloty has just halved against the franc. Hungary, the Balkans, the Baltics, and Ukraine are all suffering variants of this story. As an act of collective folly – by lenders and borrowers – it matches America’s sub-prime debacle. There is a crucial difference, however. European banks are on the hook for both. US banks are not.] t
[ Whether it takes months, or just weeks, the world is going to discover that Europe’s financial system is sunk, and that there is no EU Federal Reserve yet ready to act as a lender of last resort or to flood the markets with emergency stimulus.
Under a “Taylor Rule” analysis, the European Central Bank already needs to cut rates to zero and then purchase bonds and Pfandbriefe on a huge scale. It is constrained by geopolitics – a German-Dutch veto – and the Maastricht Treaty.] t
But I remember just before the launch of Maastricht, the CBC’s Brian Stewart had a glamor series on how Europe and the Euro would sink America.

  5. What a sour grapes festival you guys got going on here! From the bitter fuming impotence of Kate’s “The Savior” talk (uh, that’s ‘The President, to you Kate) to the other ineffectual grumblings to be found – along with the requisite racism (‘po’ folks’) – all down the thread.
Whatsa matter, crybabies? You all bent out of shape since Obama mastefully used the bipartisanship idea to box in the GOP with the traitrous whacko Rush – so that he can stroll on with ease to enact his agenda? Leaving the wingnuts to choke on his dust just like he did with McCain and Clinton in the election…
    No drama Obama!

  6. “No drama Obama” will wear this recession (if not a depression)as will Harper. O and H can’t fix it. Monkeying with things won’t work so they are both toast. And yes, there will be no drama at all, just misery to be remembered at the polls.

  7. ET: The Columbia profs Cloward and Piven are on record for wishing for the destruction of capitalism. Their published strategy was embraced on the left. As the piece points out they nearly bankrupted New York City, whose welfare rolls were increased, what, 3x or so when the economy was strong.
The strategy is to overload the system by forcing the establishment (wow, did I say “establishment”?) to strictly adhere to their “rule book”.
No, I’m not agreeing with their theory about the ruling classes using welfare to sedate po’ folk. That was the phony premise THEY used to “recruit” the masses to be more aggressive in applying for welfare. They argued, that there was a large constituency that, according to the “rule book” was entitled to welfare but who currently weren’t receiving it.
I didn’t say it succeeded! I only provided a link on the strategy.
Remember though that Clinton’s welfare reform programme was really triggered by the massive Republican win in the 1996 mid-terms. It is highly doubtful he would have done this on his own without the political pressure.
Have you read Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals?. I bought it, read a few pages, puked, threw up, and threw it out.
Vis a vis overloading the system, we saw it again with ACORN and the sub-prime crisis. Pressuring banks — even protesting outside bank presidents’ homes — to make NINJA loans (no income, no job no assets).
There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind, that marxist Alinsky acolyte Obama wishes to destroy capitalism in America.

  8. Me No Dhimmi – I don’t think this is a conscious effort to overthrow the US system.
I think it’s more easily explained by incompetence, laziness, sloth, apathy, bad planning, political expediency, and the rest.
I agree that ACORN, sub-prime, and NINJA stopped the music – but it was greed and idiocy that produced that in the first place. I’m sure a ton of these mortgage brokers made an equal ton of money knowing and not caring that these mortgages would be paid – but they got their scratch – and that’s all they cared about.
And the left-leaners were in a race to outcompassion each other, attempting to legislatively encourage, as you say, this whole mess.
As we all know, it’s pretty easy to be generous if you’re writing cheques to somebody out of an account that’s not your own, if in the end you will get a ton of praise and be recognized as a “community leader”, or perhaps “organizer”.
It’s pretty reprehensible that he said do this do that it’s dire and then books off for the weekend. It’s time to grow up and act presidential. He acted irresponsibly before by saying things like “I inherited this mess”. Awful. He’s the president now, and should start acting like it.
WRT to productivity – as Peter Schiff said, it will take a long time to turn the shopping malls in the US into factories.

    Funny that, isn’t it?

  10. Why did it take the founders so friggin’ long to come up with the constitution? Obviously they weren’t as smart as these wizards in congress are today. They don’t even have to read legislation before they pass it. They just hold it up to their forheads and the information is magically “transferred” into their fertile minds.

  11. Time to do my part in this time of crisis: I think I’ll take a three day weekend off next week.

  12. erik. it is real and it is organized. generation after generation of socialist academics have created a populace that thinks that they do not have to do anything for themselves. the record of communist influence in canada and the u.s. is there for all to see. when anything requires attention in canada the first question by all canadians (not a minority) is why doesn’t the government do something. my question is why don’t we as individuals do something.

  13. ET,
At American Thinker, a James Simpson wrote an article titled “Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis. (one can get to it thru Dhimmi’s link ). It is 9 pages long when printed out.
I am not saying that the C-P Strategy is successful, the article, to me, finally shed some light on what I observe or have a gut feeling about.
In regards to the Dear Leader, imagine, a professional sh!t disturber is now POTUS.
On youtube there is a video titled “Reagan debates Obama” (thanks cjunk), about halfway thru there is Michelle Obama. Listen to what she says> ” You will work for Obama?” “You’re life will never be the same.” Sacred Holstein! If one didn’t know her, one would think that there is a cult recruitment drive going on.
It is going to be a long four years.

  14. Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.
    – Michelle Obama

  15. Me No Dhimmi and old white guy – I like what Captain Capitalism has to say.
    http://captaincapitalism.blogspot.com/
I don’t think Obama puts his evil superhero outfit on at night, and says – let’s see how we can bring down this puppy.
I think O’s ideology is misguided. That being said, it would be interesting to know what McCain would have done with this economic situation.
Right now they are in a mess of problems down south.
