  2. Liz J: “Wasn’t it under Chretien’s regime God Save the Queen was not allowed at a ceremony on the Hill because “God” might be offensive to some?’
I don’t know about banning God Save the Queen, but Chretien made sure that there was no mention of God in the prayers at the memorial service on the Hill after 9/11, unlike the U.S. and Britain, who “allowed” prayers by rabbis, imams, and priests.
And before the memorial service in Nova Scotia for the victims of the plane that went down at Peggy’s Cove, Christian ministers received letters from Chretien saying that they could not pray in the name of Jesus because it might be offensive to those of faiths other than Christians. Never mind that the other faiths, including Native Canadians’, were not told they couldn’t use certain names when they prayed.
What utter crap. The problem was compounded, however, by the Christian ministers’ compliance with Chretien’s clearly anti-Christian bigotry. They should have insisted on their freedom of religion and expression rights under the Charter.
    ‘Talk about suicidal.

  3. Hmmm, I’m sure it was only a few months back that the media were telling us that Canadians don’t like us getting too close to the US…
“A prime minister with the ear of the US president is often viewed favorably by Canadians” is the quote in a story explaining why a poll reports that Canadians are preferring to see an untested, arrogant leader at the helm of this country. I guess it kind of goes with having having an untested, arrogant leader at the helm of that country, too. I’ve seen Ignatieff’s nose become somewhat longer than it used to be, but he could learn much from Obama, a master of deceit, on that front.
“Canada’s opposition leader takes lead: poll”
“OTTAWA (AFP) – Canada’s opposition Liberal leader has overtaken the prime minister in the latest opinion poll, released on Wednesday, but the ruling Conservatives still lead in overall voting intentions.
“Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, at the helm of his party since December 10, scored 44 percent approval and 21 percent disapproval.
“Asked which leader “would be best able to forge a positive working relationship” with US President Barack Obama, Canadians favored Ignatieff to Harper, 51 percent to 31 percent.
“Canada and the United States are neighbors, allies and the world’s biggest trading partners.
“A prime minister with the ear of the US president is often viewed favorably by Canadians, and Ignatieff and Obama are thought to be more closely aligned ideologically than Harper and Obama.
“Still, Harper’s Conservatives continue to lead in overall voting intentions, with the support of 36.2 percent of respondents, compared with the centrist Liberals at 32.6 percent and the leftist New Democratic Party at 14.3 percent. The two men will face off for the first time next week when parliament resumes and the Conservatives unveil a budget.
“The opposition has vowed to topple Harper’s minority government if the budget fails to stimulate Canada’s slowing economy, create jobs and aid the most vulnerable during a recession.
“Some 35 percent of respondents approved of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s job performance in the Ekos survey of 1,000 Canadians for the daily Globe and Mail, while 55 percent disapproved.”
    Will people never learn?

    Oath Is Administered Once Again
    By Jeff Zeleny
WASHINGTON – President Obama was re-administered the oath of office on Wednesday evening by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., one day after the two men stumbled over each other’s words during the inauguration.
Mr. Obama and Mr. Roberts stood in the Map Room of the White House at 7:35 p.m. and recited the oath before a small group of advisers and a handful of reporters.
Robert Gibbs, a spokesman for the White House, said the oath was re-administered out of an “abundance of caution” because a couple of words were out of place on Tuesday. The White House Counsel’s office thought the original oath was proper, Mr. Gibbs said, but Mr. Obama did a second oath anyway.”

  5. “a rare do-over.” of the “drill”.
TORedStar tells the truth: Bungled by O.
How many do-overs did Dionky receive? One? Two? Three? Four?
    O receives “a rare do-over”.
O needed one (1) initial attempt Tuesday; then, “a rare do-over.” in private on Wednesday.
Check the history books: Which other(s) POTUS had a “do-over” of the oath of office?
    Here is the Big Lie:
“Don’t worry, the White House says, Obama has still been president since noon on Inauguration Day.
Nevertheless, Obama and Roberts went through the drill again out of what White House counsel Greg Craig called “an abundance of caution.”
