  3. I heard about this as well on Fox News and CNN (either last night or earlier today).
    I think that it is becoming clear that Obama is not an ideologue. He is appointing guys that really make sense from a left centre to dead centre point of view (his picks for defense/security are almost right wing; Clinton for SoS is pretty conservative).
    He may actually be very smart and is reaching out to all Americans and bypassing these nutty idiots.

  15. I thought the blogger’s commentary was particularly insightful vis a vis liberals. The only crime a liberal can commit in the eyes of other liberals is to not be liberal enough. Thus liberals defend the most egregious offences by other liberals provided they advance/espouse the liberal agenda/catechism. If a liberal questions or renegs upon that agenda however, watch out!

    That would be consistent with Christian teaching, which believes in the sanctity of human life.
    On more than one occasion during the presidential campaign, I heard Obama stress the importance of personal responsibility.
    The loony left is not going to like this and it will finally click in that their philosophy clashes with Obama’s message of personal responsibility.
    Of course, the hatred will eventually be on him because he betrayed their expectations.
    Problem is that when Obama promised ‘change,’ the loonies figured it was a call for less personal responsibility.
    This is unfolding pretty much the way I figured.

  21. Personally, I believe that the bigotry against homosexuals is irrational and uncalled for. No one needs to care what other people are doing in their private life and home. If you disapprove of homosexuals, don’t marry one. What difference does it make to your life if someone else does?
    However in this case, it does seem appropriate that Obama would backstab the left after all the lies and propaganda of the leftards and other journalists and the efforts of the latte-swilling, hypocrite “elites” to get “their” guy elected.
    After the most atrocious campaign of deceit and manipulation in US history, their guy isn’t their guy when it matters. It looks good on the left to see them double-crossed.
    And Paul Volker was an inspired choice. Reagan’s guy in Obama’s circle. Life is good.

  22. One of the most effective ways for a minority to force their agenda on the majority is to control the conversation. Branding your opponent as bigots, racists or sexists while labeling oneself as a progressive is currently all the rage.
    The anti-gay marriage goal is to simply maintain the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman as per the longstanding tradition currently accepted by the Judeo-Christian cultural. The goal is not to insult any group. The goal is not to deny any legal rights to any group.
    If a person supports and works to maintain the traditional Judeo-Christian definition of marriage she is branded as a bigot. If a person wants to destroy the Judeo-Christian definition of marriage against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of Canadians he is branded a “progressive”.
    If you really want to know which party is the bully in this matter it is interesting to note that the overwhelming majority of Americans are okay with civil unions for gays. Civil unions would give gays pretty much everything except the pleasure of debasing and demeaning the use of the word “marriage” for Judeo-Christian heterosexuals.
    The irony is that gays and Obama have both branded themselves as “progressives” so by throwing the gays under the bus Obama will get more centrist votes and the gays will still vote for Obama since he is a “progressive” just like them. Obama’s advisors may be many things but stupid is not one of them! Rahm you beautiful (manipulative) bastard!

    To a non-believer or a queer, what difference would it make who makes what supplication to a being that they don’t believe in or follow?
    Personally I don’t think God will be listening in any case. I mean what has he to do with the election of Obama? It doesn’t concern him one way or the other…if it was his will, he wouldn’t have entrusted the outcome to a fickle electorate, and if it wasn’t his will then we’d all be asking “Obama who?”
    This one rates a colossal meh…

  24. If anyone is paying attention to those economists who have been bang on about the US economy, they are forecasting absolute disaster with Obama.
    The only question really at this point is how fast he will create hyper inflation and a collapse of the American dollar.
    If I were an American I would be taking out every penny I had in the bank and convert it to either gold or silver or invest it in Canada or overseas.
    I am glad that Harper has been creating trade opportunities with other countries (France the most recent). We will need them when the US collapses under it’s own spending.

    I have wondered for a long time now how long the left can feint solidarity. I believe the actual people who fall into these identifiable groups are oblivious to the inevitable conflict their ideals have them headed towards. They have been duped by their own lobbying groups into believing they share values and experiences (you know discrimination), all the while not recognizing the people they cheer with at political rallies are those very same people who discriminate against them. It’s all slight of hand if you ask me, they tell you to “look behind you, it’s the boogie-man” and while you do they stab you in the back.

  39. Every politician is “centrist” by neccessity of the populace.
    I don’t know how many people are familiar with Cultural Marxism and the tool of “repressive tolerance,” but it is a Marxist social-manipulating technique of moving the masses to the political left. (It allows movement to the left, but allows no tolerance to the right – thus, tolerance for gays, but no tolerance for religious teaching on homosexuality).
    The middle ALWAYS becomes the mainstream. It is a fairly common brainwashing technique which was developed by the Communists & used as far back as the Korean War. (It plays on people’s natural tendency to want to be like most other people).
    Even have a look in Canada.
    Back in the 60’s, the NDP was “left,” the Liberals were “centrist” and the Constervatives were “right.”
    When Trudeau the Treacherous Traitor jumped ship from the NDP to the Liberals, and then ousted centrist Paul Martin Sr. for the leadership, Trudeau moved the Liberals WAYYYYYY to the left (where the NDP once was). The NDP then moved further left, and the Conservatives eventually moved to the centre.
    Now we have the NDP (FAR left), the Liberals (left), and the Conservatives (Centrist). The “right” is completely vacant.
    It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that this bus only steers straight ahead or to the left. That means that given time (years/decades), there is NO OTHER PLACE to steer but left. And we all know the gulag at the end of that road, eh?
    If the “right” wants to move things further back to the right, what they need to do is create a party of wacked out loonie-tune rightists – this will the bring the “centrist Conservatives” further to the right.
    Whoever is the furthest to the left or right is always the most “extreme.” And that extremity makes the others look normal. If there was no NDP, it would be easy to make to the Liberals look like all-out Communists (which they are), but because Jack Layton is more screwed up than the Liberals, the Liberals will always look more reasonable than the NDP – even when they are out in left field, where they are.
    Take a look at feminism and how that worked. The Great Walrus, Andrea Dworkin, was such a slobbering, raving lunatic, that she made Gloria Steinam look “mainstream.” Yet, Steinam is quite a radical herself – very radical. But she was not as much of a nutbar as the Great Walrus, so people looked around and said, “We’d better deal with Steinam, because I don’t want to get within 100 feet of that other fish-blelching sea-cow.”
    Same as politics.
    It all comes down to setting the stage.
    There needs to be a political party to the right of the Conservatives to balance things out, and make our Conservate “rightwing” party look like the mainstream. That takes people being further right than they are right now. It is pretty simple, and the left has been using these techniques on us for decades.
    The masses are really stupid, and it is questionable whether we should have a system of universal democracy at all. It is because of these types of manipulations that the left supports universal democracy so heavily. (Democracy is the road to Socialism — Karl Marx). They know most people are stupid – especially the “educated” ones.

    In my opinion, the relentless drift leftward is due to increased economic specialization. Very few of us are independent farmers anymore. If the shelves in our supermarkets suddenly went bare, few of us would know what to do. Aware of this fact, many of us are more inclined to seek security through collective effort. I don’t particularly like this trend, but my opinion (and yours, I’m afraid) won’t matter much in the long run.
    Regarding social values that might be termed “leftist”, just about all of them are feminine in nature. That includes increased acceptance of homosexuality, a de-emphasis on personal responsibility, a distaste for competition, and a reluctance to pass judgment. Here, the “culprit”, if you view it negatively, is increased mechanization, which makes masculine strength and physical courage less important economically. Women’s suffrage owes its very existence to modern machinery, which has made it possible for women to get out of the home and into the workplace. That the government women subsequently elect should look increasingly feminine need not surprise us. Again, I am not particularly pleased by this trend, but I doubt my distaste will matter much in the long run. Nor (referring now to your post) will the appearance of an “extreme right” political party bias public discussion significantly.

    Spartan society was very different from ours. It was essentially a garrison state focused almost exclusively on keeping down a much larger slave population, somewhat like the old Southern Confederacy in the U.S. Feminine values like empathy had to be ruthlessly suppressed, which was achieved by taking boys away from their mothers at the age of seven and forming them into militarized packs. This distancing from all things feminine continued throughout most of a man’s life. Although I’m no expert on the human psyche, I can imagine homosexual activity as one possible consequence.
    As for women having a distaste for competition, that is indeed a generalization for which I am sure both of us can find exceptions. But I stand by my comment.
    As for not being married, I’ve been married for almost 40 years. However, I do appreciate the humor of your remark.
