The girl’s family was normal, as far as I know. The girl was just a bad apple, who got into drugs and goth. Steinke was another bad apple who got into drugs, but had been an athlete before meeting the girl.
She wasn’t his first 12 year old girlfriend, BTW. He’d been hanging out with very young girls for some time before he met this one. The parents were trying their best to keep the girl away from him, but sometimes it isn’t enough. I coach a couple of kids that new both of them, and what I hear is, she had influence over the guy.
At least he’s in jail for 25 years. The girl will be free before she turns 21. Maybe Karla Homolka can adopt her.

CTV is no different on this issue. I was listening to CTV Newsnet this morning and the asshat reporting the news refered to the 12 year old as Steinke’s “girlfriend”. You just can’t fix stupid.
Ok, I read the article, now I’ve got this picture in my head I really don’t need. That’s because there’s all this PRURIENT detail in there designed to evoke exactly that response.
But the really shocking thing about the article is the family is presented as Normal Rockwell normal, 2.5 kids and house in the suburbs, nice hardwood floor. I’m told a 28 year old (immature but otherwise not completely abnormal man) kills 12 year old “girlfriend’s” (presumed normal) entire family (presumed normal), plus “blood spattered toys” for some spice.
This is why people are scared all the time and won’t let their kids play outside. Because our “news” organizations are telling us “that could have been YOUR twelve year old daughter, YOUR 28 year old son.” Any family can be killed, any kid can snap, this is the new normal, so don’t judge.
Its bullsh1t. That is not the case, and all the reading I’ve done since like 1994 supports that reality. This kind of atrocitiy does NOT happen in normal families. There is ALWAYS some massive f-up going on somewhere.
