“The CBC has some explaining to do”

From the comments;

Follow the Goreacle’s mukunlucky-footprints to the back entrance of the CBC’s HQ in TO. As Rusty says, look down, way down for more on Gore’s Current.

“Current’s plans for an initial public offering are on hold, employees have told CNET News. The company filed for an IPO in January.”

Betcha Current will go into bankruptcy. The CBC has some explaining to do. Your tax dollars are flowing into Gore’s pockets. Fire.Them. All.

“CBC partners with Gore to bring Current TV to Canada 10 Nov 2008 … Current TV, the interactive television network with one-third of its content created by media-savvy viewers, is coming to Canada.”

Layoffs hit Al Gore’s Current Media

“There have been layoffs at Current Media, the cable network co-founded by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore.
A source close to Current told CNET News on Tuesday that 20 percent of the staff has been cut, and that some of the layoffs will take place now and others in January. Current had announced less than a day ago that it had partnered with the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. to bring its network to Canada.”

  1. We’ve been funding Algore through the Corp ever since Gore bought the CBC Newsworld channel. The really criminal part is that the Liberals let Algore get a transponder on our anik satellite that is worth millions of dollars as we Canadians were smart enough to figure out what Arthur Clarke was talking about before anyone else did, and grabbed the best longitude for ourselves.

  2. Wonder how many ‘tanks’ Big Albert had the last few months ?
    – Long (peak) oil ?
    – Long biofuels ?
    – Long carbon credits ?
    – Heavy Lehmans ?
    – Short US dollar ?
    – Short (of) possible TWC lawsuit defence cash ?

  3. oh yeah, it’d be more funny if we knew how playing with capitalism had ruined Mr.Gore.
Still, I imagine he’ll have a few invited dinners at the White House.
Will they still call it The White House ?
    the indispensable maz2…

  4. and remind me again, why can’t I see Fox in Canada?
    like a regular viewer can…
ah well, I watch only a few hours a week. (maybe this is why?)

  5. How can anyone justify Canadian taxpayers paying out a Billion Dollars Per Year to a government sanctioned and protected broadcasting monopoly in a multi-channel environment where competition is thriving?
The CBC’s television business has outlived is usefulness.
It’s time to use the taxpayer’s money currently spent on low-ratings Government TV for better purposes.

  6. The CBC anal Billion$$$+++ subsidy must be slashed in half and the CBC should be restricted to promoting Canadian arts and culture.
CBC Newsworld (aka the Liberal goebbelian propaganda organ) should be terminated because it must be costing a fortune to support such a news gathering organization. I don’t want to listen to any more Liberal-drool dripping from the lips of all those fatcat announcers telling us how wonderful is/was Dion, Obama, Gore, Suzuki, Chavez .. and their Liberal-friendly MSM pundits.
The CBC employs ~10,000 and get ~$1 Billion anal subsidy … that amounts to $100,000 subsidy per job . enough is enough …!!!!

  7. “The CBC anal Billion$$$+++ subsidy”
I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “the CBC anal billion subsidy”, but I suspect it somehow involves the CBC, billions of dollars, and, alarmingly, my bottom. Hmmph! And not even so much as a reach-around.

  8. To clarify IanV’s comments: I worked at CBC Newsworld International (and no, Ian has it wrong: this does not involve CBC Newsworld, a current cable news network in Canada). It was first sold to Barry Diller (of the USANetwork), and Gore then bought it from Diller. As far as I recall, the transaction didn’t involve CBC/Gore, but Diller/Gore.
Either way, I am still pissed, because after the Americans bought it, they turned it into a soap opera channel, and I lost my daily news gig on CBC Newsworld International (which I used to do, live-to-tape, Monday to Friday).

  9. Werner, now I’ve been let go. It’s come full circle!
There’s great talent out there willing to innovate the right programs under the right people. That’s what brought me to Current TV and what led me to spend the last several hours hanging out with fellow unemployed and employed Current staffers. Everyone is going to have to wake up in the morning and face some sobering changes. I wish everyone success!

  10. You are not missing much with Fox news marc. Aside from Hannity there is not much worth watching over there. I have high hopes that Beck going there in 09 will livin things up a bit.

  11. Maz2, you the MAN, man!
Looky there, eh? CBC’s reverse Midas touch remains intact, everything they touch turns to sh1t and costs Canada millions.
Mr. Harper sir, I smell a golden opportunity to kill the Liberal propaganda machine with one stroke. Economic crisis, budget to be balanced… the time is right!
Nothing so crass as -selling- the CBC, oh no, that would be Capitalism, we can’t have that. I’m thinking more along the lines of a general austerity program that starves them to death.
Making the corporation live within its income would be a beautiful way to do it. Propaganda doesn’t sell well, they’d be bankrupt in 6 months.

  12. A golden opportunity has been handed to the government in the form of an economic downturn to chop the media arm of the LPC.

  13. Ron,
Woow that is quite the list of downs that Goreco has to face. I suspect we will see his activity pick up so he has an income.
Is there any public peephole that might give a hint as to Mr Gore’s current financial status because that really is a list of losers. I would be interested to see what has happened. Wow!

  14. Just a reminder that our great patriot Mo Strong kicked off this concept when in charge of Ontario Hydro. Y’all know that OH owned vast tracts of Brazilian rainforests as karbone offsets for Ont. hydro? Any wonder why electricity costs so much?
And what did Mo get as a reward? Why a UN posting where he could really clean up with the food for oil scam.
Why do we let them get away with this sort of thing?

  15. maz2,
I have one question and please answer it honestly.
How much of your ‘research’ is done on pay time? Pay time is defined as time when your employer is paying you to do a job not personal ‘research’.
If you don’t answer I and others will presume the worst, you’re no better than the people at the CBC that accept money under false pretense.

  16. Gee liberal ron, not everyone can get a government job.
btw, the Texas Canuck is on his lunch break but siting at his desk to maintain coverage.

  17. AtlanticJim – I think Brit Hume’s news hour on FOX is the best news show on the airwaves. I’d pick that over Hannity any day. And, Neil Cavuto’s business hour is good too. He’s very articulate, defensive of capitalism, and readily challenges bad ideas.

  18. Liberal Ron,
I have one question and please answer it honestly.
How much of your trolling is done on pay time? Pay time is defined as time when your employer is paying you to do a job not personal ‘research’.
If you don’t answer I and others will presume the worst, you’re no better than the people at the CBC that accept money under false pretense.

  19. His name answers your question for you Phantom.
He’s a liberal, he is entitled to his pay. Circumstance be damned.

  20. To clarify for Werner, I did not postulate a direct connection from this action and Newsworld. My understanding of the Diller/Gore matter is that both are/were puppets for Goerge Soros, an old friend and fellow traveler of Mo Strong. Given that if no tax dollars are involved I wish all the above people well in their endeavors. The more they spend on these channels, the less is spent directly on political action. The Dems have become a ‘one-trick-pony’. Once the glow is gone, Barry becomes just another failed ex-basketball player, and the Dems have no viable backup.

  21. The only channel I watch here in Sask. is Fox with Hannity and the others.
Glen Beck will be another breath of fresh air.
If we had such a network in Canada it would reflect on what is going on in Canada and not the garbage that comes out of the other 3 “biased” group.
Get rid of CBC – start immediately please.

  22. On subject, here’s a copy of an email I sent to our MP after the election-
As always, my number one issue is still our freedoms. Having said that, as a former politician, I’m well aware that politics is the realm of the doable. I would like to give you my thoughts on several items I would like to see as priorities given that the 40th. Parliament has an Historical Opportunity to steer Canada away from the aberrant State Socialism of the Twentieth Century, with it’s loss of Religious and other freedoms. With the popular mindset, and the screaming opposition, opposed to deficits if possible, this gives the Government the ability to convince the populace that cuts are an inevitable necessity. What to cut is fortunately the Prime Minister’s prerogative. Here are my thoughts on cuts that will play to the base of voters, though probably not to the media, so worth doing sooner than later.
End the Wheat Board. “We will not force the people of Saskatchewan to do what the people of Ontario do not have to do.”
End the Gun Registry. “We are not a Totalitarian State that fears it’s own citizens, and wants them unable to defend themselves.”
Sell off the CBC- (English) “We are a free Democracy, and have no need of a State Controlled Propaganda Agency, like Pravda.”
(My preference would be to set terms and conditions so Bell Canada buys, the viewers get to pay for it, as it were.)
Sell the CBC- (French) “We do not need a Federal Corporation interfering in the daily lives of the Citizens of Quebec or any other Province.”
(My preference, GIVE the network to Quebec, let THEM pay for French programming in other Provinces.)
End the CRTC- “We no longer have a limited amount of media available, and Canadian Content is only limited by our imaginations.”
“The internet is unlimited, and any attempt to regulate the content would hurt Canadians by denying them their full potential to learn.”
End the CHRC- (Sect 13)- “We believe that Canada is based on ‘Rule of Law’, Canadians have the right to free speech, and the Courts are the place to resolve issues.”
“We believe that Truth is always a defense in life as in our Justice System.”
As an enemy of large intrusive government, I could go on for days, and as a former politician, I could probably fill a page of things I think the government SHOULD be doing! I’m a ‘Law and Order” kind of guy, and I am disgusted more with the direction our Government has gone as much as it’s size. As we all learned from the New Zealand experiment, it is not enough to set things to right, first we must convince the voting citizenry it is the right thing to do. I strongly believe that the CBC has been a great handicap in doing this. While we Conservatives refuse to effect it’s programming on principle, the Corporation feels free to project THEIR view what is right for Canada from a quasi-governmental pulpit that is perceived by many Canadians to be the ‘Official View’.

  23. Rob, I don’t blame you for not watching all of the hit piece. It is obvious CBC’s definition of a “documentary” is the same as Michael Moore, i.e. leftoid fluff. Trouble is that there are still a ton of people who remember when CBC News was news and take this tripe as gospel.

  24. Penny, I had forgotten about Hume. He is bang on most of the time. Cavuto I not watched a whole lot. May have to set up the ol DVR to catch him.
I think what impresses me the most about Hannity is that he has somehow refrained from throtlling Colmes…..

  25. “If you don’t answer I and others will presume the worst, you’re no better than the people at the CBC that accept money under false pretense.”
    libRon
Speak for yourself! You are in no position to demand personal information. Your rationalization falls into line with your liberal belief system.
I see you took my recommendation and changed your name from Liberal Ron to liberal Ron, this shows that you are open to good suggestions. I think that I have a more suitable name, try this one on:
    Presume Ron
    (fits like a glove)

  26. Thank you for your comments.
FYI, Just like Kate I’m self employed, unlike Kate I have a fairly large staff. Like Kate if I don’t work I don’t get paid.
I’m hoping for the best (that’s a liberal thing) and the reason there’s been no response yet is because maz2 is on pay time.

  27. liberal Ron,
Unless he’s working for the government, I don’t care who’s paying mazz so long as it isn’t me.
Why would you think you matter enough to demand anything?

  28. “Why would you think you matter enough to demand anything?”
Warwick, it’s not that I matter enough it’s that after managing a large workforce I’ve discovered the one constant is that the people that criticize the most are the ones that are the guiltiest of hypocrisy. Couple that with the fact that maz2 only posts topics with paranoia as the central theme my theory is only reinforced.

  29. Its TROLL Ron, Jim.
Anybody that’s “managing a large workforce” would be more interested in the message than in shooting the messenger. Managers who shoot the messenger have a short life expectancy in most businesses, people stop giving them messages. I doubt he manages his own checking account.
I note Ron The Troll has yet to address the actual content of the post, just snark and mirrors.

  30. Good post IvanV – you should send this letter to all the M.Ps going to the convention.
I think the CBC should sell out to Al Gore. We can use the money to pay down the debt.
CBC is the antethisis of entertainment. It is dull, humourless, uninformative; and the reporters lack charisma and intelligence.
FIRE CBC out of the country. Take no prisoners.

  31. It’s amazing where our tax dollars have gone, starting with Adscam and Abotech and running to this UN/Strong promo network.
BTW, “Liberal Ron” — you presumptuous git — who the hell do you think you are to show up here and demand private information from commenters, under a vague threat that you’ll “presume the worst” — ooooo — if you don’t get the information you want?
    Feeling a bit superior today?
So anyway, liberal ron, who posts here pseudonymously during working hours and demands private information, what’s the name of your business, with it’s “large workforce,” that you manage? Or is that private information?

  32. ERosco, you ask:
“Why do we let them get away with this sort of thing?”
He is the (MWHIC) Man Who Hides In China. That’s pronounced Emwhick.

  33. Any of the babe commentators and reporters on Fox are better than anywhere else – including on intellectual content score.

  34. EBD
All sarcasm aside… When a person like maz2 acts like a judge/jury, makes potentially libelous statements, implicates a Crown corporation, slanders a political party then suggests how PMSH should act; then that person’s motives should be examined. If that person (maz2) is reluctant to reveal themselves it is reasonable to assume their moral compass has lost its bearings.

  35. The CBC is not that left wing. They critisize all parties. They are right of centre. You don’t want anybody to disagree with you. That’s facism. You get your heads out of the sand. Only 22% of the people voted for the tories.
