  1. If the whole bunch were canned there might be 1000 letters of protest from the usual suspects. Might take some time to find them because the protest letters would be mixed in with 50000 letters of approval for cleaning house.

  2. watching CBC Newsworld yesterday I nearly puked. Don Newman winner of the Gordon Sinclair Award. I have to wonder, is Gordon Sinclair spinning in his grave?
So the link back to SDA is more than appropriate.

  3. If they are 1/2 as good as they say all the other networks will be lining them up with big salaries as long as the CHRC doesn’t sue them for hiring too many white males.
    Sgt Lejaune call me
    23,278/50,000
    🙂

  4. The real tragedy is that without the Canada’s Natural Governing… err Entitlement Party in power the lads can’t get their Order of Canuckistan and Senate seat. Pity.

  5. The CBC went through the election cheerleading for Stephane Dion, as did most of the other MSM. No wonder he thought he was going to win.
He had sucked up to them big time as well.
Too bad for them ‘the emperor had no clothes’.

  6. there are lots of openings in Al Jazerra for the CBCpravda boys who hate yanks.
and well trained spinners with that classic CBCtrona accent, how much better can it get.

  7. “And there is no better war correspondent in Canada than Patrick Brown.”
Heh. As if. Christie Blatchford is better, for one, when she is there. Do we need to mention Michael Yon? CBC can’t, I suppose, given he’s all American and such.
CBC is losing “gravitas” because it fails to realize that not everyone sees the world through their political, pacifist, socialist, liberal lens. As Kate’s “reason for this blog” note intones, CBC continues to tell Canadians what to think how they should think rather than removing the editorial filter, objectively presenting both sides of a story, and letting Canadians decide what to think. People are beginning to see the blatant editorializing first hand and are sick of it.

  8. Ignore the verbiage of self-praise by the MSM cabal. We have a very small, incestuous MSM in Canada. They are all entwined with each other – and with the Liberal Party. And with the taxpayers’ money for their wages, benefits, pensions.
They aren’t interested in news, information, reporting, analysis. It’s all about protecting the incomes and elite standing of themselves, as a Gang of Media Friends.

  9. They should have released Mansbridge too. Would be great if Lorne Greene, the VOICE OF DOOM!, could come back from his grave and deliver the news again. LOL

  10. “And there is no better war correspondent in Canada than Patrick Brown.”
And that encapsulates the problem at Canada’s MSM.

  11. I had to Google Patrick Brown to find out who he was. Then I decided I better do the same for Don Murray. Turns out it was not who I thought it was.
Two true power houses of Canadian journalism.

  12. Icons of Canadian Journalism.
arent Icons things that were once worshipped.
these guys are like Obama, just a few grades down from the Obamessiah, Saint Pierre, her excellancy the most holy Adrianne Clarkson, and now Iconic reporters. if they werent so anti christian it would almost be funny.

  13. Heh, do recall flipping the alphabet news channels just before the last US election as the made up scandal de jour was being waved about like a pair of dirty underwear as per usual. Then on one station, NBC if I recall right, had the typical two person smear tag-team on, and one male news head was claiming ‘this is journalists finest hour!’ all giddy like and the bubble headed female chimed right up in complete agreement. That was enough for me, made me feel grimy just watching that self adoration with the stink flowing from them…
I’ve not bothered to watch tv news much at all, since that time.
Maybe they hop ’em up on something before air time?
Think i’d have HAVE to be hopped up on… on something to lie so often so publicly.
    Guess it pays well eh?

  14. It isn’t gravitas that the Blubb and the CBC lack, it’s NEWS!
The day that they start printing and bradcasting the facts, ALL the facts, and nothing but the facts, that is the day that their circulation will begin to rise.

  15. Great! A chance to rag on the CBC. 😉
First off, if the CBC disappeared tomorrow, or at least reverted to a strictly CanCon service, I’d be the first to applaud. I firmly believe that the CBC has far outgrown its mandate. Seriously, we’re paying programmers at CBC.ca to create online games for kids? WTF? IMO the CBC should be one radio station playing a variety of news, sports, music and whatnot accessible in every corner of the country.
Secondly, I believe that Mansbridge AND Robertson over at CTV should exit stage right gracefully and make room for new blood. Jo Lynn Sheane out of CBC Manitoba comes to mind.
That said, I’ve always liked Brown and Murray. They’ve gone into some tough spots and, while I haven’t watched CBC for a couple of years, I can’t recall them being overtly biased.
    I feel better now.

  16. Too bad “Craig Oliver” AKA Owl boy didn’t go with them biased? he was Peeare T’s favorite “canoe buddy” I get my news from Blogging Tory’s and SDA EVERYDAY! Funny right now in the middle of the worst financial crisis since the 30’s all the Liberanos are running around hoping an asteroid will wipe out Stornoway .
    Cheers Bubba

  17. I can think of several other CBC journalists I would have axed before Patrick Brown (Neil MacDonald for starters).

  18. Wait, who are these guys again?
I don’t EVER watch the CBC, so if they fired some guys to save me some money, wahoo. If these two are any good they have new jobs already. If they’re depending on the CBC because nobody else will have them… gee, firing them was double plus good.

  19. I remember them both very well–but they’re getting OLD (like us all) and why should they keep their jobs indefinitely?
If they’re good–and I think they both are, not so much in the mold of the “celebrity” newscaster–surely they can find other meaningful work with other organizations or freelance as others have suggested.
Being released from the Mother Corpse might be doing them a favour. I’m sure life can begin after the CEEB.
(I think Patrick Brown was married to Bronwyn Drainie, another CBCer and John Drainie’s daughter, though I’m not sure what she’s doing now…)

  20. A little off topic. Has anyone heard how cbc.ca is doing in their search to find a right-of-center journalist to balance out the likes of Heather Mallick?…….Cbc ‘Politics’ should also consider getting rid of the ‘Lessard & Travers’ duo who clearly despise the conservatives, yet are the team to give us their analysis of the gov’t.

  21. “I’ve always liked Brown and Murray. They’ve gone into some tough spots and, while I haven’t watched CBC for a couple of years, I can’t recall them being overtly biased.”
That’s my recollection too, so I’m with others on this board who would prefer to see the axe fall somewhere else, closer to home perhaps. They could save a lot more money by pinkslipping the liberal shills and outright cultural marxists like Kneely Mac, AnnaMaria Tremonti, Carol Off etc etc.

  22. Just watched Mike Duffy – what’s with this guy? He interviews 2 defeated Liberals and twice gets all emotional with the quivering lip and chin; it happened another time later in the program. Is there something going on with him that we should know, or if not, what’s the problem? It makes me very uncomfortable watching this guy!!

  23. My fisrt response was “just what the fork are “CBC Stars”? … Then just who the fork are Patrick Brown and Don Murray?
    Fire them ALL.

  24. Brown and Murray probably got the axe because as real journalists (and damned good ones IMHO) they never really fit in. They’ll land on their feet, I’m sure. Slimey pr–ks like Neil Macdonald are the proper CBC calibre and will NEVER be laid off.

  25. Ask the anchors to remunerate those “icons” with the $ they are personally taking from Canadian taxpayers and watch them balk!

  26. Here’s my latest conspiracy theory:
If these two are good, as some of you think, perhaps they are being let go ahead of the major chop-chop, so they don’t have to stand in line for the ‘jobs’. Maybe they’ll work on a Fox-type news channel.
    We can hope.
I’d love to see Julie working in a hair salon.

  27. Maybe they are saving money to spend on the great Olympic coverage in 2010 or when ever. A Turdeau investigative reporter doesn’t come cheap.
