In a surprising yet welcome move, most major North American and International news outlets today reported on the IPCC and Warmist admission that predictions of an ice-free arctic in 2008 were simply wrong. Furthermore, most MSM outlets quoted two studies that pointed to “winds” and “circulation”, not global warming, as the likely causes of arctic ice depletion. Most surprising of all, was NASA’s Dr. James Model Hansen, who told reporters, “I was wrong … just simply wrong … predicting an ice free 2008 was clearly hyperbole … and for that, I apologize.”
Even Al Gore got into the act, and expressed regret at fanning the flames of sensationalism … while environmental groups around the world moved cautiously toward a more open view of the situation. Pepper Misty Leaf, of Arctic Ice Salvation stated, “We didn’t realize it was the wind … and now that wind dynamics are changing, we may see more … not less ice in the near future … polar bears will be happy!”
David Suzuki even got into it when he told reporters that, “We knew it couldn’t all have been attributed to Global Warming … the models are, after all, only as good as the formulas and data that go into them. The planet is a solar driven beast … and we need to look a lot closer at the the sun.”
But the final word goes to the IPCC, which plans on revising its outlooks. “Someone, somewhere, is not telling the truth … either that, or we just don’t know as much about the climate as we thought,” said IPCC head, Rajendra Pachauri’s. He added, that since he believes in reincarnation, he intends on pursuing the matter even into another life.

A difference of: 1,576,563 square kilometers, now in fairness, 2008 was a leap year, so to avoid that criticism, the value of 6,857,188 square kilometers can be used which is the 10/13/08 value, for a difference of 1,369,532 sq km. Still not too shabby at 24.9 %. The one day gain between 10/13/08 and 10/14/08 of 3.8% is also quite impressive.

Are the Global Cooling Deniers finally getting it?
I think what’s happening is that the AGW lobby are reacting to the first really major blow to their runaway theory of warming, the hemispheric temperature fall that began around May 2007, then accelerated last winter with the unusual snowfalls in many places, now continues with a rather unspectacular summer melt in 2008 and this very rapid re-freeze that has already locked into coastal Alaska and Siberia. Taken all together, these are obvious signs that the theory is unsustainable, but the scientific community went so far off the deep end that only a few scattered individuals are left to take up the natural adversarial stance. Most of the leading skeptics have been hounded out of the community over the past decade and are speaking from the sidelines.
The problem all along with this theory is that it overestimated warming from greenhouse gases during a period of natural warming in the 1990s and so it is now left trying to coax that same rate of warming out of a factor that is worth perhaps 10% of what had been ascribed to it, while robust natural cooling takes over and overwhelms the weak signal of what may be real in the inflated AGW theory.
The problem is that there is no guarantee that this natural cooling will continue so AGW could be back with a vengeance if there is another warming cycle. It doesn’t look imminent, and this winter may bring some further inconvenient truths to the warmists. The killer would be a severe winter in Europe, the absence of these has been the biggest growth factor in the political success of the warmist lobby.

Sadly, Mr. Green and Mr. Armstrong found no evidence the IPCC was even aware of the vast literature on scientific forecasting methods, much less applied the principles.”
