  1. Thanks for the link, charles macdonald. I respect Salzman’s work on the ME. I’m not a fan of the ‘cultural phenomenologists such as Boaz, Mead, Benedict etc’ but I do agree that you have to work with the ‘mindset’ of the population.
When a society is confronted with another mindset, and has to adapt – it can either refuse and try to ossify its beliefs and behaviour..which won’t work. Or, it implode. Or it can adapt. Not much choice, really, but the very last thing a society will do, if they are not used to change…is change. They’ll try the first two steps before they’ll adapt. Islamic fascism is an attempt of ossification. And implosion.
    Salzman writes:
“One consequence of which is that some institutions or patterns of action are incompatible. For example, sharing and mutual welfare in a large kin group, on the one hand, and capital accumulation, on the other hand, tend to be in conflict.”
Exactly, Sharing and mutual welfare function in a tribe; capital accumulation functions in an industrial market economy. These are two different economies; they can’t be mixed. It’s one or the other.
That’s why the ME has to adapt. It can’t remain tribal; it has to move on to step 3.
And moving to the UK or Canada, and trying to ossify your culture within the ‘identity politics’ of our rampant multiculturalism, doesn’t help these people either here or in the ME.

  2. After watching the video posted by EBD at 2:18 a.m.,a thought comes to mind. If Dion cannot answer simple questions in English posed by grade-schoolers without an interpreter, how will he respond in the debate. He has to very quickly bring his english skils up ,or he has to have the questions beforehand. Dat iz not fair!

  3. Latest from the Dionky: “You love your country”.
Does he mean Canada? Does he mean France?
Citoyen is a citizen of both France and Canada.
Canada or France? Which country is he referring to?

  5. “Update: Watch Stephane Dion blame the Jews!”
“Lesley Hughes: A short (video) history of Liberal leadership
Or perhaps this is a history of how the Liberal Party is short on leadership. In any case, the story of 9/11 conspiracy theorist Lesley Hughes, a Liberal Party candidate in Manitoba, has come to a miserable end.
And as we waited for the inevitable, the Liberal Party officials and apologists for the party dodged and weaved in a very amusing way. I guess they had no choice, waiting for Stephane Dion to be prodded into some action that mimicked leadership.

  6. SDA gets results. Update on the Mallick “column”. It seems even the CBC ombudsman agrees that the CBC is biased; to wit:
“But there is another significant aspect to our policy. As mentioned, it calls on CBC outlets to touch on the widest range of views possible. On CBCNews.ca, there does not appear to be a wide range of “pointy” views. For instance, many of those who complained claimed that there is no one of an opposite ideological viewpoint readily apparent on the service. Unfortunately, this appears to be true. As I observed in an earlier review concerning CBC Newsworld programming, the CBC should not necessarily avoid having people of strong views on the air, but we must ensure that people of differing views are given a fair opportunity.”

“His WordPress blog was suddenly deleted. Now I see why.
Meet Drew Adamick, Liberal candidate for Prince George. Some excerpts:
I’ve read the Liberal “Green Shift”. It’s about time the Liberals came out with some kind of policy. Too bad it’s flawed in many respects: it does not truly reflect the current realities of rural and northern Canadians, it does not penalize heavy polluters enough, it does not truly provide incentives for people to take transit, drive less, use fuel-efficient vehicles, it does not provide enough incentives for people to use less fuel. I’m not against carbon taxes per se, just the two proposals that were put out there.
The Liberal proposal is a tax shift, plain and simple…
This plan is not “revenue-neutral”. Seriously, when are taxes “revenue-neutral”?”

  8. Are you seriously suggesting that IF someone openly advocates Sharia Law – that this is an act of treason – and the individual should be executed? ET to Me
YES. But only if convicted of treason.
But, as mentioned, I would he satisfied with deportation. Me No Totalitarian.
Advocacy of sharia law is unquestionably treason.
I don’t nuance sharia law. And as discussed before, no corner — not even in so-called family issues arbitration — should be given to sharia, which sadly the UK has now done, and we almost did in Ontario.
