His inability to secure solid leadership inside his party has not created winning conditions for the Liberals in the next election, so he sends his MPs to hide in the hallways of the House every time there is an opportunity to defeat the government.
Unfortunately, if Dion waits for winning conditions, we will wait for a long time before we go to the polls, and Canada cannot afford another year of this dysfunctional Parliament.
Dion wants to wait for the results of the upcoming by-elections before making a decision. I believe the outcome of the by-elections is irrelevant. Victories would give more strength to the Liberals. But if they lose, Dion might not have another opportunity to lead them to the polls – he might be pushed out.
For a year, Dion has supported a Conservative government and then whined when that government implemented Conservative policies. He should know that if he wants Liberal policies approved, he needs to get a Liberal government elected. And that mandate comes only by winning an election. The Liberal leader will have his party united behind him only after he brings the government down, not before.”

BEIJING — Two elderly Chinese women have been sentenced to a year of “re-education through labor” after they repeatedly sought a permit to demonstrate in one of the official Olympic protest areas, according to family members and human rights advocates.
The women, Wu Dianyuan, 79, and Wang Xiuying, 77, had made five visits to the police this month in an effort to obtain permission to protest what they contended was inadequate compensation for the demolition of their homes in Beijing.
During their final visit on Monday, Public Security officials informed them that they had been given administrative sentences for “disturbing the public order,” according to Li Xuehui, Ms. Wu’s son.
Mr. Li said his mother and Ms. Wang, who used to be neighbors before their homes were demolished to make way for a redevelopment project, were allowed to return home but were told they could be sent to a detention center at any moment. “Can you imagine two old ladies in their 70s being re-educated through labor?” he asked. He said Ms. Wang was nearly blind.”

With oil prices at historic highs, the quest is on to turn such plant materials into a replacement for gasoline—call it grassoline. Since 2007, U.S. energy policy has been shaped by the premise that we can brew enough biofuels to replace 35 billion gallons of gasoline by 2017, and 60 billion by 2030. Corn ethanol has been a bust, blamed for wasting water, exhausting croplands, and causing tortilla shortages in Mexico and rice shortages in Asia. For all these problems, it currently contributes the equivalent of only about 4.2 billion gallons of gas a year. And the carbon dioxide emitted in the process of growing and fermenting corn and then distilling and burning ethanol is nearly as much as that emitted by extracting, refining, and burning gasoline.

Interesting that this came via the G & Mail. I don’t recall it being a discussion item in the Calgary media prior to it being implemented (or even now, for that matter). However, I may have missed something.

Why should Canadian taxpayers have to accommodate hijabed, saried, or otherwise garbed women/girls who might want to go swimming in a public pool? When in Canada, do as the Canadians do.
Western women in the Middle East not only aren’t accommodated, we have to wear the clothing prescribed by Middle Eastern customs, which means being covered from head to foot, lest a Middle Eastern male’s fantasies run amok. In these countries women have to take the flack for male weaknesses.

I see no evidence that their employees have improved their “leadership” capabilities. Shouldn’t executives already possess “leadership” qualities when they’re hired? Wouldn’t evidence of “leadership” be one of the prequisites to begin hired?

David Horowitz, President of the Freedom Center, hails this as a breakthrough moment when the double standards that control the political and intellectual culture of most universities have finally been challenged. “Up to now, the slightest criticism of radical Islam on campus has been slammed as ‘Islamophobia,’ while Muslim groups and their radical fellow travelers have been allowed to say the most hateful things imaginable about Christians and Jews without any reaction from university administrators whatsoever,” Horowitz says. “Provost Nikias has called the hadith on the MSA website for what it is: despicable. Given the atmosphere that prevails on most campuses today, it was an act of integrity on his part to make this call and to demand that the MSA live up to basic standards of civility that should govern the university.”
