Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Tuesday night vintage music show, here are Luis Russell & his Orchestra, featuring Louis Armstrong, performing Song of the Islands (1930, 3:31).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

hardboiled – yes, I’d agree with much of what you said above; it’s very much a Milton Friedman statement – which is against the sacrifice of ‘the general interests of the individual to serve special interests’.
He was against the vast bureaucracy – out of the control of the electorate (think of Yes, Minister to see how they control the agenda) – and against the movement of government to focusing not on the common individual but instead on special interest groups. Focusing on these special interest groups can get you elected.
That has been the specific Liberal strategy – strategy that has been made effective, law, by our Charter, which divides the population up into Special Interest groups.
It is not easy to transform a political infrastructure that has evolved into a concrete structure. A structure made up of an enormous and powerful bureaucracy, and an equally unelected regressive ‘upper chamber’ of autocratic elites.
Then, there’s a media system primarily linked both ideologically and personally to one of the political parties..and an actual legal structure, the Charter, that divided the population into identifiable groups and sets them up against each other for both funding and power (the HRCs).
So, walking into such a minefield and attempting to change it to return power to the people – it’s not easy. The MSM rant and rail at Harper for his decentralization, ignoring that this returns decision-making power to the local population..but the MSM consider that he is ‘weakening Ottawa’. (yes).
The bureaucracy sabotage and delay his tasks and work with the MSM and Liberals to smear the govt.
Same with the Senate.
Same with the HRC – they attack the citizens for daring to express dissent and daring to reject identity politics.
So- Canada is not a robust democracy and dealing with it – can’t be easy.
Dion is on the airwaves saying that Canadians are now ready for an election. What f’en arrogance, the man truly believes that he is in tune with what Canadians want and when. Bring it on weaselhead, and Canadians will let you know that we prefer to keep our ‘green’ in our pockets rather than shift it over to your pocket.
Randall Hoven has an excellent article at American Thinker regarding the Surge. The comments are great. I especially recommend the article to those who, like Obama and you know who, wanted to withdraw in April 2007 – which, as I said then, was the tipping point.

Excellent response to my comment, Hardboiled, now that’s the kind of discussion I like to have, not just endless kvetching about the stupidity du jour. One thing though, this sworn member / duty of citizen thing of which you speak: I never signed anything 😉
Found this on Michelle Milkins blog. It holds out some hope for Hollywood trying to bring some conservative ethics back into movies.
