Just a quick service announcement for the handful of motorcyclists who didn’t already know how bad the road is;
The Saskatchewan government is warning motorcyclists heading down to a big annual rally in South Dakota to avoid a potentially hazardous stretch of highway.
Each year, the Sturgis, S.D. motorcycle rally — the largest of its kind in the world — attracts thousands of visitors from Saskatchewan and other parts of Canada. Sturgis is about 863 kilometres south of Regina.
Many of the Canadian visitors have traditionally taken Highway 35, which runs due south from Weyburn.
However, this year the province is telling riders to take a different route.
The problem is a two-kilometre section of highway near the Saskatchewan-North Dakota border, which is being rebuilt.
That route has been treacherous for years, and it’s good to see work finally being done on it.
Actually, I’ve always thought Highways should install “motorcycle caution” signs at major intersections leading to highways with degraded pavement, gravel stretches, or significant construction as a matter of policy.

Motorcycles? Are you kidding? My 4X4 takes a terrible beating over there. My ATV trailers have broken springs within 6 months of Sask “highways”. I have to pay Sask crews higher vehicle rates over there. Not because of fuel costs, because of maintenance. I wouldn’t ride on 2 wheels over there on a bet.
One hopes the ricegrinder in the homepage picture won’t be ridden to Sturgis for reasons other than the road.
Surprisingly, in my recent Cannonball Run I found Sask roads to be in better condition than Manitoba’s or stretches of Northern Ontario. The patches from shoulder to shoulder every ten feet is also a nice touch; gives you the sensation of riding on a train. clickety clack.
Harleys suck, DIRT BIKES RULE! ringadingdingdingdingRRRRRINGadingdingding…
Kate knows that sound. ~:D
I guess I will see for myself, as we planing a trip to Sask in Aug. on the bikes.
Do the hells angels still have a “whites only” sign over their little piece of property at Sturgis?
The stetch of highway in question, is called the road to Baghdad by the locals. It’s quite an introduction to Saskatchewan for American tourists not long after they cross the border.
motorcylces in saskabush??????
who kilt all the horses:-)))))
You haven’t lived until you’ve hit a Sask. pothole the size of a tractor tire in the dead of the night and your front forks let out a squeal that sounds like it comes from the bowels of hell. I particularily like that little round gravel they throw everywhere after they lay down some tar, but I digress. I agree with a sign for motorcycles.
another bad spot – four bikers were recently killed in unrelated accidents within a week and within the space of a few miles of each other.
On Hwy 89 in the vicinity of Glacier National Park and it apparently is known to be a trouble spot.
Troll elsewhere dp.
But just for your education and enlightenment, I’ve never seen a “whites only” sign at ANY Hell’s Angels venue anywhere including Sturgis.
I’m no fan or supporter of the organized crime group known as the Hell’s Angels, but on the other hand, none of them have ever done me wrong.
In the meantime go smirk at your own cleverness at whatever leftard blog you usually frequent.
And if you aren’t capable of riding on gravel on 2 wheels, give your license back. You’re not really a rider anyway.
I never pretended to be a “rider” tough guy. So no hells angel ever done you wrong eh? What a hick. Or should I say groupy hick?
blanks’ drives on SK roads, not on motorcycle. No saltum in winterum askum whyum? Might hurtum roadum,
no federal Wompom?
The roads are terrible in Saskatchewan.
Why SK not take of roads like neighbour AB?
Know you pay taxes and your fuel prices are as high as PQ’s?
The ground is so flat out there you could throw asphalt off the back of a wagon a make a better highway.
I didn’t say a word about you riding dp. That was directed to those howling about the roads. Putting in the “and” at the beginning confused you I guess.
Yep, I still ride. Been to Sturgis a couple of times. Never on a Harley. Rode what ever I wanted to. Never had any issues there either. And why would I be a groupy? And of what? As for the tough guy crap, where’d you pull that out of? I didn’t make any claims one way or another about that little fantasy of yours. Said I wasn’t a fan or supporter of the Hell’s. That said, I did have one for a next door neighbour for a couple of years. So quite honestly I know a lot more about them than you do, you bottom feeding drive-by yipping troll.
Now, go back to whatever leftard blog you usually frequent and brag about how you told off some tough guy biker. They’ll all congratulate you. Even though all concerned know it isn’t true.
Wouldn’t it be easier to put a sign at the US boarder saying “Saskatchewan hiways, unfit for vehicular traffic except where other wise posted”
# 35 is not that bad, a couple of miles of good gravel directly north of the border while they repair the road.
If you don’t want the gravel go Chamberlain / Moose Jaw / then # 39 & 6. 39 is a dream and 6 is quite good.
Happy trails
