Scenes From a Multicultural Society
Visiting Toronto, I read the Globe & Mail with my morning coffee. This single edition contains four different stories with little glimpses of Canadian multiculturalism at work…..
1) First, the story of Sultan Kohail. The Kohails are Palestinians who migrated to Canada “several years ago.” (The reporters who cover multiculturalism stories habitually show remarkably little interest in dates and other hard facts.) …..
2) Huseyin Celil….
3) A big mid-paper piece relates the story of a Turkish-born preacher named Ayed Mejid. Placed under surveillance by Canadian sccurity officials…
4) On page 2, we meet Ramesh Maharaj, an Indian immigrant who married a hometown woman in 2005… http://frum.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NjRmMWY5YWIwMjE0MDVlZjk0NGU3N2RlMzE1OGRkMTE=
“Free Dominion files its defence against Richard Warman’s lawsuit
Connie and Mark Fournier of Free Dominion have now filed their Statement of Defence against Richard Warman’s defamation suit. You can see a copy of that defence here.”
“The Free Dominion defence is a fascinating read. It’s obviously a document written for the court of law, but it’s also a powerful weapon in the court of public opinion. It’s quite readable — not too leaden with legalese — and it tells a hell of a story. As I predicted when Warman first sued us, we might well be the nominal defendants in this case, but it’s Warman who’s really going to be on trial.” http://ezralevant.com/2008/05/free-dominion-files-its-defenc.html

Karen Selick on the ‘right to food’: Making slaves out of taxpayers
In 1976, the Canadian government made a philosophical error that may soon come back to haunt us. It signed and ratified the United Nations’ International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Under Article 11, Canada recognized “the right of everyone to an adequate standard of living for himself and his family, including adequate food, clothing and housing, and to the continuous improvement of living conditions.” Canada further pledged to “take appropriate steps to ensure the realization of this right.”
Yes, dear taxpayer, the late Pierre Trudeau committed you to ensuring that every single person on the planet has not only adequate material resources (whatever “adequate” means), but continuously improving resources…… http://tinyurl.com/3saho6
Don Martin’s column in National Post yesterday is a tad irksome, even the title, “Harper looks to woo soccer moms”. So, Harper announced that goods marked “product of Canada” must be almost entirely Canadian” and this is only a concern of women?
He goes over the top saying this is “just the latest push by Harper to reach the estrogen voting code”. So he doesn’t think this would be of interest to the testosterone voting code?
He also tossed in “OK, so it’s unlikely the average Canadian woman will swoon over Stephen Harper any time soon, despite his rapidly thinning physique”. So guess the estrogen driven female voters won’t just vote for something as frivolous as a thinner physique, he’s given us that much.
Question is, why the hell would he even mention such a thing?
You now how it is Liz. Us stupid men do not care if our children ingest lead from products imported from commie China. Only the mothers care. Fathers never care. Fathers are dumb. Fathers encourage their children to eat lead. F&^%face the reporter said so, so it must be true.
Here my children, let’s all eat some lead, cuz I am a stupid father, and I want my children to be poisoned.

All the slanders the Democrats have aimed at the Bush Administration were also aimed at the United States. The United States tortures prisoners. The United States went to war for oil. The United States lied. The United States is unbalanced in its foreign policy. The Patriot Act is fascist. On and on.
So when President Obama enters into unconditional negotiations with Iran, the Iranians can bring up the Democrat’s own bill of indictment of the United States — indeed, the Democrats plea of guilty to all charges on their nation’s behalf.
The Mullahs can then say: “Before we talk, your lying and deceiving nation must show your good faith by doing what you promised your long suffering people you would do. Withdraw from Iraq immediately. Abandon missile defense. Stop enriching the merchants of death! Repeal the oppressive patriot act. Give the UN a veto over your security policy. Significantly cut your own nuclear stockpile. Sign onto the Kyoto treaty. Stop destroying the planet! Tear down your own “Apartheid wall” along the border with Mexico! Stop oppressing your own Muslim People. Release those you so unjustly held in their torture cells! Become a good citizen of the world, then we can speak ‘unconditionally,’ as you put it.”

There was no procedure in place for communicating a major sewage spill back in August, 2006.
That’s how Ottawa City Manager Kent Kirkpatrick explains why the public was kept in the dark about the spill for 20 months.
Two summers ago, almost a million cubic metres of raw sewage was dumped in the Ottawa River.
It’s wasn’t as if the spill was a secret.

*An Enemy of the People
“DR. THOMAS STOCKMANN is called to the position of medical adviser to the management of the “Baths,” the main resource of his native town.
A sincere man of high ideals, Dr. Stockmann returns home after an absence of many years, full of the spirit of enterprise and progressive innovation. For as he says to his brother Peter, the town Burgomaster, “I am so glad and content. I feel so unspeakably happy in the midst of all this growing, germinating life. After all, what a glorious time we do live in. It is as if a new world were springing up around us.””
“In this spirit Dr. Stockmann sets to his task. After two years of careful investigation, he finds that the Baths are built on a swamp, full of poisonous germs, and that people who come there for their health will be infected with fever.
Thomas Stockmann is a conscientious physician. He loves his native town, but he loves his fellow-men more. He considers it his duty to communicate his discovery to the highest authority of the town, the Burgomaster, his brother Peter Stockmann.
Dr. Stockmann is indeed an idealist; else he would know that the man is often lost in the official. Besides, Peter Stockmann is also the president of the board of directors and one of the heaviest stockholders of the Baths. Sufficient reason to upbraid his reckless medical brother as a dangerous man:
BURGOMASTER: Anyhow, you’ve an ingrained propensity for going your own way. And that in a well-ordered community is almost as dangerous. The individual must submit himself to the whole community, or, to speak more correctly, bow to the authority that watches over the welfare of all.
But the Docter is not disconcerted: Peter is an official; he is not concerned with ideals. But there is the p[r]ess — that is the medium for his purpose!” http://www.theatredatabase.com/19th_century/henrik_ibsen_012.html
George Packer, The Fall of Conservatism: Have the Republicans run out of ideas?
The era of American politics that has been dying before our eyes was born in 1966. That January, a twenty-seven-year-old editorial writer for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat named Patrick Buchanan went to work for Richard Nixon, who was just beginning the most improbable political comeback in American history…
Peter Wehner, His Mahdi Mission
Peter Wehner explains the political significance of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s apocalyptic faith.
Here’s part of an email update on the China earthquake orphan situation (Jenny Bowen, “Half-the-Sky”):
“As we finalized plans to ship, then bring in engineers to erect two giant tents to house hundreds of newly orphaned children, we got an emergency call from Aba Civil Affairs Bureau.
They are caring for approximately 1,000 orphaned and displaced children, most of whom are 7-12 years old. There are over 100 infants. They’d been placing the children in local shelters but had just received news that 70 more children are on the way. There are no more tents and no more beds for them. Further, they urgently need powdered milk and diapers. And they need foods that don’t require cooking as most of their cooking stoves and supplies have been destroyed. They need so much they can’t even give us an estimate.”
entire update at http://www.halfthesky.org/journal/?p=98
Following Half-the-Sky’s efforts has been remarkable. Their access to good information and quick integration into the relief efforts gives evidence as to how open China has become with the world. Getting the survivors out of danger is a story that’s far from over and much more help is needed.
(Via SWJ) Herschel Smith, Why is there Jihad?
A common misunderstanding among some on the far right or of the libertarian stripe (e.g., Patrick Buchanan, Ron Paul) is that the sole reason for the existence of the global jihad is the presence of U.S. troops on holy soil, i.e., Saudi Arabia. It is, after all, the stated raison d’etre for 9/11 hijackers. But this myth becomes muddled when it is pointed out that the Hamburg cell initially intended to wage jihad elsewhere…
Ya gotta check those Charles MacDonald links . .
Surprised to find an Obama misstep in the mix.
** Max Motors, a small car dealer in Butler, Missouri in the US Midwest, has seen sales quadruple since the introduction this week of a scheme offering customers either a $250 voucher for a gun or the alternative of a gas card.
Mark Muller, the owner of the dealership, said that he had sold more than 30 cars and trucks in the past three days but only two customers had opted for the gas card.
**We did it because of Barack Obama,** Mr Muller said, referring to the Democratic presidential hopeful.
**He said all those people in the Midwest, you’ve got to have compassion for them because they’re clinging to their guns and their Bibles.** I found that quite offensive.**
=========================== Surprise!
That*s a grunt error that a leftist smoothie like Bob Ray would never make. Since when are all the people in the Midwest not voters?? Barack must be really exhausted.= TG
Dave: “Free speech is really about property rights.”
This is the fundamental issue. PET’s charter denied/omitted property rights. Most Canadians were mesmerised by PET, the Pied Piper, with his magic mushroom persona/his sophistry; he arrived on the political scene at the right time, the ME-ME-ME sixties, to spin his confidence game.
PET’s socialist pyramid scheme carried the day. All the rest has followed.

We can see that while impractical, the processing of corn for automotive fuels does offer a buffer from petroleum while ICE engines head for the boneyard.
Grains have long been distilled for human mood changes in the form of whisky and gin and sold at silly prices of $35 to $295 per 45 onces.
Human nature suggests that opportunists will collect samples at ethanol plants before the denature stage and become wealthy.
Later, when most auto motors are electric and the need for ethanol evaporates, will we be awash in cheap gin? = TG
Can anyone explain why the price of gas goes up instantly whenever oil price raises. The gas I put in the car yesterday was produced, shipped etc when price of oil was lower. Is that what they mean by gouging.
All day CNN has been reporting on price raises, from gas, groceries and everything else due to gas prices. Let’s hope Dion is paying attention to how an additional carbon tax will affect everything we buy.
And telling me that paying an additional 30.00/wk for gas, groceries etc on the chance I might get a break next April is a non starter.
McGuinty to increase welfare pay to obese – ostensibly, so they can buy healthy foods – LOL
=================
While it would be certain to cost the province millions, the McGuinty government says it will consider the controversial proposal to redefine the obesity boundaries. Welfare recipients with a body mass index (BMI) above 40 currently get a special diet allowance of $20 a month.
The BMI measures body fat based on height and weight. Thirty and above is considered clinically obese, 40 and above morbidly obese. Now the government is considering lowering the diet allowance cutoff to a BMI of 30.
That’s where close to a third of Canadians sit. If that doesn’t make taxpayers choke on their low-fat cereal, consider this.
Under the plan, the $20 monthly allowance would expand by more than 150% to nearly $51.
The extra cash is supposed to be used to buy things like low-fat milk, meat and whole-grain products. http://www.torontosun.com/News/TorontoAndGTA/2008/05/23/5646411-sun.html
A WORD OF CAUTION to people who may participate in the free on-line edition of Regina Leader Post’s and/or Saskatoon Star Phoenix’s “Sound Off.” Those types of blogs don’t require the writer to sign in with his or her e-mail address. Thus anyome could use your name and give opposing views as to what you might want to express. I’m surprised that the Leader-Post and the Star-Phoenix don’t use more discretion to police their blogs. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. And YES, we do have Small Dead Animals as an alternative! Thank God for that!!
Re: young Khadr. IMO, his lawyers can’t have it both ways. If he is not a war criminal, then he is a POW, and stays captive until war over (at least one or two generations, probably not in his lifetime). As far as Canada intervening, based on his citizenship, then he has colluded with our enemies, and has therefore acted in treasonous manner. He was certainly old enough to understand the consequences of his actions, and I believe he acted wilfully against his country.
The sins of ommission of his defence team are enormous, and they should be careful what they wish for. The bottom line is he isn’t going anywhere soon, and Canada does not want him here.
Shamrock,

Here is a blast from the past for your weekend reading pleasure:
(Via JCI) David Ben-Gurion, The Kingdom of the Spirit
The Jewish people are not only a national and political unit. Since their first appearance on the stage of history they have been the personification of a moral will and the bearers of a historic vision which they inherited from the prophets of Israel. It is impossible to understand the history of the Jewish people and their struggle for existence—both when they were a nation rooted in their own soil and more or less controlling their own destiny, and when they were a wandering people, exiled and dispersed—unless we bear in mind the unique idea which their history embodies, and the stubborn opposition, not only physical, political, and military, but also spiritual, moral, and intellectual, which the Jews have always confronted.
Before someone points it out. I know lots of other things have jumped up beyond normal inflation in cost.
Professional Association set fees.
Dentist = Root canal & Cap, was-$750 Now-$1000
Vet = Euthanize sickly old cat was-? Now- $150
Doctors-? I hesitate to guess. = TG
Doctors-? I hesitate to guess.
Zero. Unless it’s the US you refer to.
Canadian doctors have to beg the government for a raise with no power to bargain. This is why we are short of them. They’re taking whatever bones thrown to them by the government and if they don’t like it, an American hospital will pay them twice as much…
TO SHAMROCK: You’re 100% right!! You can’t dilly-dally in between Canadian criminal law and US military statues as you please. Meanwhile, he’s studying the Koran, enjoying Spam sandwiches, Oscar Myer weiners, the warm Cuban breeze that has a hint of Havana cigars mixed in with Florida Orange. Sure beats having grenades thrown at you in the desert! Could someone send that boy a rosary!
Doctors have avenues to increase income. Specialize and privatize.
In any case, the point is that costs are jumping forward faster than inflation suggests is reasonable, in many special sectors.

I have just read a few of the comments at ctv re Kadar, and the picture is of a much older, bearded man. Several commentators say he was just defending his country. I thought he was supposed to be canadian, so how was he defending Canada by killing a US marine, in Afganistan.
Was he in that country legally, as a citizen of that country, or as a visitor from Canada.
And remember his mother saying, on cbc, that she would rather have her sons die as suiciders than stay in Canada and become homosexuals. Did his brother ever get his passsport back, to visit the USA.
Well, I doubt that it did any good but I sent my copies of pictures of Kahdr to CTV.ca and to Duffy@CTV.ca.
Enough is enough! Now, I think I will forward said email on to all on my email list. These pictures make me sick.

But there is the p[r]ess — that is the medium for his purpose!”

=========================== Surprise!

Grains have long been distilled for human mood changes in the form of whisky and gin and sold at silly prices of $35 to $295 per 45 onces.
Human nature suggests that opportunists will collect samples at ethanol plants before the denature stage and become wealthy.

=================

Shamrock,
I would bet good money that the cowardly, appeasing Canadian government (including Harper) will not do jack to charge these terrorist creeps with treason.

That means all of us who drive have $40 less per month to support coffee shops and various impulse buying habits.
The numbers are far higher for all those who drive bigger SUVs and trucks.
You know this has hit our Canadian economy far harder than the MSM will ever inform us of.

Dentist = Root canal & Cap, was-$750 Now-$1000
Vet = Euthanize sickly old cat was-? Now- $150
The solution in the energy sector is here;

To all that posted regarding the picture of Khadr;
THANK YOU! I too wish the the media would quit using the “innocent boy” picture all the time and show what the little puke really is about. I have had these pictures saved on my computer for awhile, just in case they one day disappear. We shouldn’t spend one dime or one tear on Khadr.
Thanks Johann. Watch for a post on that this weekend.
