as this thread is virtually off the rails at this point, i would like to share wisdom from grandfather who told me in no uncertain terms that: when confronted by appalling judgment it is very important to distinguish between ignorance and stupidity. he said that ignorant people deserve whatever they get but that allowances must be made for the stupid because they cannot help themselves. the only difficulty is arriving at a determination as to which of the two categories your tormentor falls into. this is clearly the latter.
As soon as I went to Marks’ site this morning I ordered a CD and a book. I needed a new book as mine seems to have not been returned from someone. I will listen to the CD in the car traveling and it will give the hubby a chance to hear the book. Thanks Mark.

Regardless, Catherine has my donation and dispite my being a ‘reformed’ ‘lefty’ – there should not be any division in regards to freedom of speech.
As I have said – this is not a ‘Left nor Right’ political issue – it is a moral ‘Right or Wrong’ one and thanks to Mark Steyn – this may become a freedom fund raising model based upon the Jerry Lewis Telethon.

I am writing to express my concerns over section 13(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act. There are many troubling issues around the Human Rights Commissions that have recently come to light:
– complainants costs are paid by the taxpayer, defendants must pay their own costs
– the fact that the truth is not a defense
– the 100% conviction rate of the HRCs
– the entrapment or attempt to entrap by employees of the HRCs
– the almost exclusive use of the HRCs by Richard Warman
The recent statement by Barbara Hall of the Ontario Human Rights Commission against Maclean’s magazine demonstrates the problems with the act and its implementation. After announcing that the OHRC would not hold a hearing into a complaint against Maclean’s, the commission then proceeded to publicly state its opinion that Maclean’s was guilty of the accusations made against it. This is completely unacceptable in a free and democratic society.
I understand that Liberal MP Keith Martin has tabled a motion to eliminate Section 13(1) from the Canadian Humans Rights act. I believe that the Conservative Party should fully support this motion.
I am a member of the Conservative Party of Canada and have made numerous donations to the party over the years. Until such time as Section 13(1) is abolished the funds that I would have donated to the Conservative Party will go to support those who are being unjustly persecuted under the act.

1) a petion signed by thousands and sent (copys of) to every provincial a nd federal party leader
… an on line print off statement with a petion that we could print off and give to our friends and neigbours and then send to a central point
2) consider taking out adds in large news papers ( like red star:-)))to make people aware
3) tell all politicians (mainly party leaders) that we will make this an election issue, and then organize to do so

I seem to remember that this tactic is called Wardriving (traveling around and looking for unsecured Wi-Fi connections).
If you’re using wireless internet (as many people apparently are, for convenience), make sure you have the connection secured by resetting the wireless modem’s default password to something not-so-easy to guess.
Some people intentionally leave their personal network open so that others can use it for free.

I am also a Conservative Party member and get donation letters from the party on a regular basis. I returned the last one with a note telling them exactly the same thing you said, no donations until they take action on Section 13.1 of the CHRC act.
Upon reflection, perhaps it would be better to donate to the party and use the tax refund to help the defendants, but first, I think I need some T-Shirts as I bought the book when it first came out.
Managed to order a copy of America Alone before I caught the morning boat for Vancouver Island.

Interesting. Lucy wanted to shut up some Canadian bloggers who said much-deserved naughty things about him and hurt his feelings.
Instead, he’s ensured that the Canuck Six have become international superstars. All the radio and TV talk shows want to interview Kate and Kathy.
Plus Lucy’s become one of the most universally despised goofballs in the international blogosphere and talk radio.
Folks are writing parody songs and poems which call into question his mojo. There is a full line of T-shirts and coffee mugs ripping him.
In Los Angeles last week I heard Mark Steyn discussing the little prince on Hugh Hewitt’s syndicated radio talk show which reaches millions. The money is pouring in to fight him in court, and I doubt it will stop at just defense.
