  4. By the end of February, many Canadian schools are going to be involved in “Stand Up to Bullying Day”, one more of a myriad of initiatives over the last dozen or so years.
    Now, if previous initiatives haven’t produced the desired changes in the kids’ behaviour—bullying is getting worse all the time—why the public boards’ “stuck on stupid” behaviour? Well, because they are stupid. The root causes of societal pandering to “equality and diversity” (political correctness run amok), parental inadequacy and the boards’ enthusaistic collusion don’t intrude on the bureaucrats’ thinking or actions in any way.
    I’ve never seen so many trite “No Bullying” bromides, on all kinds of ugly, scribbled posters that fill public school hallways in my life. However, the sense of entitlement the kids of today wear like a badge and their parents’ covering for their kids’ infractions by often blaming the teacher or anyone else who dares to discipline their little darlings—administrators are terrified of such parents—undermine all these efforts. In fact, what’s missing from most schools’ “[How to get Away with Bad] Behaviour Codes” is both posted consequences and then a consistent administration of those consequences. Most Behaviour Codes are empty words: in fact, the kids—and their beleaguered teachers—soon find out that there are no consequences, for even the most egregious infractions. Le voila! The infractions continue and even escalate.
    The latest “Stand up to Bullying Day” in many communities will include the students marching with banners: poor, deluded children. They’ll probably be somewhat enthusiastic—however, I believe a lot of them are finally getting the drift that this is all talk and no action—but if they think the adults are really going to carry through and deal with bullies, often seen by administrators as victims, and dangerous ones at that, as they and their often inadequate parent(s) often challenge any disciplinary action, the kids are, once again, going to be let down.
    Some evidence? What’s the colour scheme for “Stand Up to Bullying Day”? PINK! (I am not making this up.)

    Reporters Without Borders, of course, is outraged that a journalist–a journalist!–is being detained. After all, aren’t all journalist–journalists!–immune from any and all suspicion?
    To be honest, this may be one time (finally) that Reporters Without Borders has something intelligent to say (maybe). I have Taliban phone numbers and plenty of Taliban propaganda on my computer. Granted, I’ve never actually given Zahidullah Mujahid or Qari Mohammad Yousuf a phone call, but still I have them. Our friends at the NEFA Foundation have. They certainly aren’t rooting for the Taliban.

    “Nine black jail guards who say they have been targets of racist threats for at least three years at the Don Jail have been granted paid leave until the end of June.
    The guards’ union steward, Hayton Morrison, said today that this is a temporary solution while the Community Safety and Correctional Services ministry investigates the complaints.
    The guards turned over letters containing death threats to the police. So far, police have not laid any charges. ”

    So, because the nine guards are threatened (and which guards are NOT, ever threatened)..they get paid leave. And the Union Steward of the guards, heck, he’s also on paid leave. That’s ten in this Toronto Star report.
    How many guards are left to report to work? How many are on ‘paid leave’ because they’ve been threatened? Again – how many guards in a jail are never, ever, threatened? It goes with the job.
    But- the taxpayers are currently funding ten people who aren’t working…

Cigarette taxes were lowered a number of years ago because the smuggling was “out of control” — when they lowered the taxes, the problem was greatly alleviated. SOOO — why have they proceeded to raise them again when the result was entirely predictable?

And, it made its way to CNN, and TVO’s Agenda, and CTV’s Mike Duffy, and finally, the Globe and Mail wrote an editorial calling for its abolition.
    The Toronto Star’s role has been to print ignorant letters promoting it – which letters have been filled with flaws such as mixing up the Criminal Code ‘Incitement to genocide:318) and the Human Rights Act.
    Now, PEN Canada has written an articulate letter calling for the removal of that Section 13.1

    I did flip around our 85 plus channels for some time and saw no mention of the Big Springs *event*.
    When the MSM is asked not to cover fearsome stories that are close to home, how does that help us to be mentally equipped to cope with events that could occur in our home towns? = TG

    Because the US recognized Kosovo? So did Britain, so did Turkey. Why is your group marching to the US embassy? Hmm?
    Frankly, I’m tired of the marchers-of-the-world targeting the US.
    By the way, apparently the rioters in Serbia, also smashed and looted retail stores; that certainly shows their nature.
    Why should rioting incite Kosovo to change its mind and stay with Serbia?
    The U of Toronto Serbian student group (and here we have, yet again, the isolationism of multiculturalism)..plans on showing pictures of Serbian churches burned by Kosovo ‘rebels’. Of course, Kosovo could show the same on their side.
    But again, why would Serbia want such people, ie, church-burning people, to stay?

  44. If you look at the history of the ex-yugoslavia, you can see that the serbs are a bunch of frustrated people. All the wars in the balkans were started by the serbs who couldn’t accept others people leaving.
    After Tito was dead, the serbs took control of yugoslavia and decided to make it a greater Serbia. Kosovo had autonomy during Tito. After the serbs removed it.
    With Nato troops are the border between Kosovo and Serbia… this is over.. get over it..
    Quebec is next.
    Long live Kosovo.

    MOST Canadians would LOVE to see Quebec leave! We’re tired of the financial cost of our having to support Quebec’s costly programs – which all cost far more than its citizens can support – and which WE, in the Rest of Canada, have to pay for with our taxes.
    We’re tired of supporting your universities and their low tuition. And how you allow foreign students-who-speak-French pay the same low cost as Quebec students. But we, who pay for these low costs, ie, students from Ontario and Alberta etc, have to pay HIGHER tuition than someone from Belgium.
    We’re tired of bilingualism and its costs. Especially since Quebec refuses bilingualism, and has its teams of Language Police going around to haul anyone who writes English, Chinese, Serbian..into court.
    We’re tired of paying for your daycare whose costs are far above your taxpayer base; tired of paying to subsidize your industries..and so on.
    We encourage you to leave! There won’t be any riots in the streets of Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver! None! We’ll wish you all the best and bon voyage!
    Oh, just remember – you leave as an adult. Not a perpetual teenager. No Canadian money, no Canadian passport, no subsidized industries. You are on your own. I think, frankly, it would do Quebec a lot of good to be on their own. It would certainly, do the ROC a lot of good.
    Now – AQS – since I’m pointing out how this situation is completely different from the Serbs, who don’t want Kosovo to separate, I’m sure you’ll be delighted by how many Canadians wish Quebec ‘all the best’ – for its separation.

    Some time ago, their agricultural industry was all puff and fluff on leaving also.
    They quickly changed their minds when their dairy farmers found out that they would not retain their outrageous quota to supply dairy products to English Canada.
    Western dairy farmers were licking their lips at what would have been their good fortune of splitting up Quebec’s quota, but as they always have, Quebecers talk a much better game than they play.
    BTW, did you notice that a fleur-de-lis looks like a boat anchor when it’s turned upside down?

  48. Linda L. EXACTLY! The Ontario Liberals are either complete morons, or they are receiving a share of the contraband smoke booty.
    No other answer makes sense.
    They have to drop cigarettes back down to $2 a pack, and put the native contraband smoke criminals out of business.
    It may not take all tobacco out of the hands of children, but it would be a good start. At least the majority of convenience stores subscribe to the principals of no cigarette sales to minors.

    funny thing Ive always thought of Quebec as more like the funny old dowager aunt. sitting there living off the relatives while hoarding her own. sitting complaining and smelling of old poutine and cheap wine. remenicing of the old days when she ran the roost in her ugly tyrst with uncle ontario and the fish eating cousins to the east.
