Posted by: The LS from SK at February 21, 2008 5:56 AMBy the end of February, many Canadian schools are going to be involved in "Stand Up to Bullying Day", one more of a myriad of initiatives over the last dozen or so years.
Now, if previous initiatives haven’t produced the desired changes in the kids’ behaviour—bullying is getting worse all the time—why the public boards’ “stuck on stupid” behaviour? Well, because they are stupid. The root causes of societal pandering to “equality and diversity” (political correctness run amok), parental inadequacy and the boards’ enthusaistic collusion don’t intrude on the bureaucrats’ thinking or actions in any way.
I’ve never seen so many trite “No Bullying” bromides, on all kinds of ugly, scribbled posters that fill public school hallways in my life. However, the sense of entitlement the kids of today wear like a badge and their parents’ covering for their kids’ infractions by often blaming the teacher or anyone else who dares to discipline their little darlings—administrators are terrified of such parents—undermine all these efforts. In fact, what’s missing from most schools’ “[How to get Away with Bad] Behaviour Codes” is both posted consequences and then a consistent administration of those consequences. Most Behaviour Codes are empty words: in fact, the kids—and their beleaguered teachers—soon find out that there are no consequences, for even the most egregious infractions. Le voila! The infractions continue and even escalate.
The latest “Stand up to Bullying Day” in many communities will include the students marching with banners: poor, deluded children. They’ll probably be somewhat enthusiastic—however, I believe a lot of them are finally getting the drift that this is all talk and no action—but if they think the adults are really going to carry through and deal with bullies, often seen by administrators as victims, and dangerous ones at that, as they and their often inadequate parent(s) often challenge any disciplinary action, the kids are, once again, going to be let down.
Some evidence? What’s the colour scheme for “Stand Up to Bullying Day”? PINK! (I am not making this up.)
the only thing Warren K is doing undercover is (fill in the blank) ( sick sexual comments are allowed)

The U.S. military confirmed yesterday that it was holding an Afghan reporter, Jawad Ahmad [pictured right], because of his extensive ties to the Taliban. Jawad was a stringer for Canadian Television (CTV).
Apparently his cell phone had Taliban phone numbers on them and indicated that the journalist had done extensive interviews with them. He also was in possession of Taliban propaganda videos.
Have we just met the Afghani Bilal Hussein?
Reporters Without Borders, of course, is outraged that a journalist--a journalist!--is being detained. After all, aren't all journalist--journalists!--immune from any and all suspicion?
To be honest, this may be one time (finally) that Reporters Without Borders has something intelligent to say (maybe). I have Taliban phone numbers and plenty of Taliban propaganda on my computer. Granted, I've never actually given Zahidullah Mujahid or Qari Mohammad Yousuf a phone call, but still I have them. Our friends at the NEFA Foundation have. They certainly aren't rooting for the Taliban.
I'm not a fan of media types doing interviews with the Taliban, but it's common practice. AP, AFP, & Reuters routinely quote Qari Mohammed Yousef.

Tory and the PC Caucus decided to launch the campaign as we approach the second anniversary of the illegal occupation in Caledonia. Unfortunately, lawlessness in Ontario does not stop there. Since the beginning of 2008 alone we have seen: developers on the Grand River being hit with extortionist “development fees”, a booming illegal cigarette industry, a major trial thrown out due to incompetence in the Attorney General’s office and criminals continuing to laugh at the system while making outrageous deals on sentencing and plea bargains.""
Where was Tory in exploiting this issue during the election???? Hiding out in PC land??

The balance of these 50 years is horrendous. There is no human way that history will absolve him. The obstacles are two million exiles, thousands of political prisoners -- of whom almost 300 are still behind bars -- thousands of executions, an absolute absence of freedoms, broken families and the worst material failures in the history of Latin American dictatorships. Almost all those long tyrannies -- Stroessner in Paraguay, Somoza in Nicaragua, Trujillo in the Dominican Republic -- were corrupt and cruelly tormented societies, but they left behind countries that were richer and better equipped than those they began with.

The contraband cigarette crisis is now completely out of control.
Unofficial estimates are now as high as 50% of all smokes sold in Ontario are illegal(there is no way of truly knowing, as there are ZERO inspections of these facilities).
The greatest concern, in my opinion, is the fact that youth smoking is on the rise big time, as contraband smokes are affordable and available to them. As well, our children are being exposed to thug punk criminals, who sell these illegal smokes, along with dope and guns.
Tory completely dropped the ball in the previous election(afraid of what happened to Harris?), and dalton mcjerkface does not have the gonads to do a thing(under mcarsehole's first term, Deseronto went from 2 to over 60 contraband smoke shacks....good job chimpy mcliar!).
There is only one solution. ALL cigarette taxes in Ontario must be eliminated TODAY!!!!!!!!!

For many people the only way out by land was through Lisbon, Portugal's Atlantic coast capital, but a Portuguese transit visa was needed to leave France and cross Spain. Sousa Mendes and a handful of staff worked furiously to issue visas to thousands who queued around the consulate for days.
Sousa Mendes famously remarked, "I'd rather be with God against man than with man against God."
As a result, he was called back to Lisbon where Portugal's then-dictator Antonio Salazar stripped him of his position and dismissed him from the diplomatic service. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCB-ibyV4aw&eurl=http://ibloga.blogspot.com/
These bewildered people haven't yet figured out that it is a tool in the Islamic war in dar al Harb.
The same brutal sound soon coming to Oxford, England.
From ibloga.blogspot.com:
Unlike churches, mosques are not places of spirituality, peace and sanctuary. They are quasi-military citadels and centres of subversion, intimidation and aggression:
"The desire to make mosques more visible has increased, however. In three Swiss cantons there are now building applications for minarets, slender towers topped by a crescent. The foes of minarets have brought in the heavy artillery. The approximately 100 supporters of a ban, including 35 SVP deputies, declared that Islam was making a 'political-religious bid for power.' Among the evidence they cited was a remark by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's prime minister and ex-mayor of Istanbul, that 'the mosques are our barracks, the minarets our bayonets, the domes our helmets, and the believers our soldiers.' This, say those seeking a referendum, must be stopped in Switzerland"
Commenting on the Oxford Mosque's demands to broadcast the amplified pre-recorded wailing, Dhimmiwatch says
"The noisy call to prayer is an act of dominance and aggression. The louder it is, the better. Mosques were always supposed to be built in high ground, or in the most imposing spot, towering over churches and synagogues, in the lands first conquered by Islam. Those aggressive skyward thrusting minarets were symbols of power, of dominance. And the same thing continued wherever Islam went.
Some fail to understand that the placement of mosques, the size of mosques, the significance of minarets, and those calls or cries, now electronically amplified, are all part of a single system. That system is one by which the mosque is not merely or mainly a place of worship, but a place of community gathering... of plots and schemes. It is even -- as we see even here and there in Europe -- a place to store weapons, explosives, false papers in false ceilings -- and a place from which to fire on Infidels ...
A mosque is NOT a Muslim "church." It is a Muslim "church" and a Muslim "community center" and a Muslim "armory" and a Muslim "army recruiting center" and a Muslim everything.
The easy, and comforting, belief in the West that it is merely a "house of worship" is something that Infidels must disabuse themselves of....The muezzins wail ...would be an intolerable display of triumphalism. If Oxford allows the call to prayer between 6 a.m. (but not earlier) and 10 p.m. (but not later), what will this do to the sleep patterns, and peace of mind, of all the non-Muslims who, presumably, still live in Oxford?

LONDON - Aspiring British citizens will be put on probation for at least one year to show they can speak English, pay their taxes, abide by the law and integrate into local life under new immigration rules announced yesterday by the British government.
The move is the latest by Britain to try to control immigration and ease public fears that schools, hospitals and transport networks are being swamped by foreign nationals, especially since the enlargement of the European Union.
The proposals also seek to encourage immigrants to integrate locally, rather than living in segregated areas and speaking their own languages, a trend that can lead to intolerance.

The opposition Conservative party labelled the plans a "gimmick" and called for a numerical cap on immigration, a move the government opposes.

Posted by: OttRob at February 21, 2008 12:33 PMBoo-hoo. "Muslim leader decries American 'bigotry' against Islam"
By Bruce Nolan, Religion News Service, USA Today
American culture's view of American Muslims and Islam is steadily deteriorating under an onslaught of "bigotry" on cable news shows, newspaper op-ed pages and in the blogosphere, an Arab-American activist told an audience at Tulane University here Tuesday.
(Bigotry? Or is it we’re all becoming more knowledgeable?)
That's a significant shift, said Hussein Ibish, founder of the Foundation for Arab-American Leadership in Washington, D.C.
Decades before 9/11, Hollywood handed Americans the perceived wisdom on Arabs as passionate, hyper-sexed, irrational and cruel. Movies such as Rudolph Valentino's 1921 silent classic The Sheik and turn-of-the-century thrillers such as The Rules of Engagement portrayed Arabs only as terrorists, Ibish said.
(“Arabs as…hyper-sexed, irrational and cruel”…according to history, and current news reports, sounds about right.)
Since the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, however, Hollywood has backed off. In the meantime, Ibish said, commentators and politicians on the right — and a few on the left — have replaced film stereotypes with hours of air time devoted to misrepresenting Islam and fueling suspicion about American Muslims.
(“misrepresenting Islam.” There they go again. Hey buddy, the Quran is in English and fortunately in the west, most people can read)
Since 9/11, he said, commentators such as Malkin, Ann Coulter, Charles Krauthammer, Daniel Pipes and David Horowitz have transferred old anti-Arab stereotypes to Islam, in a stream of "incredibly bigoted commentary" that would not have been tolerated before then.
(These people never cease to amaze. Imagine these uber-hyper bigots and racists calling others bigots and then talking about what should and should not be tolerated)
"This is what explains the collapse of the good name of Islam," he said.
(“good name of Islam” Right. Brought to you by a mass-murdering, pedophile, pirate)
Ibish said he did not want to sound alarmist. "This is still a great country to live in," he said. But a growing climate of suspicion toward Muslims — and the automatic dismissal of Muslim denials — make the situation steadily worse, he added.
(“dismissal of Muslim denials” Might the Islamic religious principle of pathological lying, called taqiyya, have anything to do with it?)
What up with these three left feet, shod in sz. 12 sneakers washing ashore on Gulf Islands? That's weird.

And, it made its way to CNN, and TVO's Agenda, and CTV's Mike Duffy, and finally, the Globe and Mail wrote an editorial calling for its abolition.
The Toronto Star's role has been to print ignorant letters promoting it - which letters have been filled with flaws such as mixing up the Criminal Code 'Incitement to genocide:318) and the Human Rights Act.
Now, PEN Canada has written an articulate letter calling for the removal of that Section 13.1

MOST Canadians would LOVE to see Quebec leave! We're tired of the financial cost of our having to support Quebec's costly programs - which all cost far more than its citizens can support - and which WE, in the Rest of Canada, have to pay for with our taxes.
We're tired of supporting your universities and their low tuition. And how you allow foreign students-who-speak-French pay the same low cost as Quebec students. But we, who pay for these low costs, ie, students from Ontario and Alberta etc, have to pay HIGHER tuition than someone from Belgium.
We're tired of bilingualism and its costs. Especially since Quebec refuses bilingualism, and has its teams of Language Police going around to haul anyone who writes English, Chinese, Serbian..into court.
We're tired of paying for your daycare whose costs are far above your taxpayer base; tired of paying to subsidize your industries..and so on.
We encourage you to leave! There won't be any riots in the streets of Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver! None! We'll wish you all the best and bon voyage!
Oh, just remember - you leave as an adult. Not a perpetual teenager. No Canadian money, no Canadian passport, no subsidized industries. You are on your own. I think, frankly, it would do Quebec a lot of good to be on their own. It would certainly, do the ROC a lot of good.
Now - AQS - since I'm pointing out how this situation is completely different from the Serbs, who don't want Kosovo to separate, I'm sure you'll be delighted by how many Canadians wish Quebec 'all the best' - for its separation.
Posted by: ET at February 21, 2008 4:57 PMTG - It was all over MSNBC as soon as it happenned on Wednesday and gas prices jumped here today which means someone noticed.I thought I saw it on Global National yesterday as well.
Posted by: kevink at February 21, 2008 4:58 PMGood post ET on Quebec leaving.
Some time ago, their agricultural industry was all puff and fluff on leaving also.
They quickly changed their minds when their dairy farmers found out that they would not retain their outrageous quota to supply dairy products to English Canada.
Western dairy farmers were licking their lips at what would have been their good fortune of splitting up Quebec's quota, but as they always have, Quebecers talk a much better game than they play.
BTW, did you notice that a fleur-de-lis looks like a boat anchor when it's turned upside down?
Posted by: rockyt at February 21, 2008 5:38 PMLinda L. EXACTLY! The Ontario Liberals are either complete morons, or they are receiving a share of the contraband smoke booty.
No other answer makes sense.
They have to drop cigarettes back down to $2 a pack, and put the native contraband smoke criminals out of business.
It may not take all tobacco out of the hands of children, but it would be a good start. At least the majority of convenience stores subscribe to the principals of no cigarette sales to minors.

Thank you for articulating it so eloquently.
sorry ET. I dont want Quebec to separate on their own.
Like a spoiler teenager they are I want to give them the punt.
funny thing Ive always thought of Quebec as more like the funny old dowager aunt. sitting there living off the relatives while hoarding her own. sitting complaining and smelling of old poutine and cheap wine. remenicing of the old days when she ran the roost in her ugly tyrst with uncle ontario and the fish eating cousins to the east.
Posted by: cal2 at February 21, 2008 6:26 PMET...excellent essay on Quebec leaving, but you left out one thing. They also only get the land that was theirs originally, i.e. the SE shore of the St. Lawerence from Quebec City to Isle Royal. The rest, well tough titty. The Indians and the ROC owns it.
Posted by: Justthinkin at February 21, 2008 6:42 PMAlso, ET and Justthinkin, I think all agreements signed with the PROVINCE of Quebec should be made null and void when they become the COUNTRY of Quebec...so that cozy electricity deal they made with NFLD / LAB would be gone!
And no more Prime Ministers from Quebec!
Woo Hoo!
C'mon everybody, all together now...Kick them out! Kick them out! Kick them out! Kick them out!
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye!
Posted by: Eeyore at February 21, 2008 6:51 PMjust thinking - yes, I agree; they only get the original land base at the time of 'Wolfe-Montcalm'.
I've found it hilarious to hear people in Quebec, and quebecois separatiste is one of them, state with absolute certainty, that the natives have 'no right' to separate from Quebec. Heh.
If Quebec assumes the right to separate from the rest of Canada, then, the natives, who lived and worked that land long before any Europeans came, have the same right to separate.
Land bases are, after all, political entities, which is to say, they are 'human constructs'. There's no such thing as a land which belongs, by some a priori, essentialist, almost biological property, to a particular ethnic group, religious group. Many Quebecers, however, view the land as an 'essentialist, biological property' of The Quebec people. That's actually a fascist idea, that sense of the land as essentially linked to a particular people...
But, if Quebec wants to leave, I myself have no problem with such an act. After all, we cannot conclude that Quebec offers much to the ROC. We, on the other hand, support it via industrial subsidies (and yes, the milk quota is one of them), via federal funding of many of their programs, federal assistance in so much of their infrastructure (roads, trains); and, bilingualism has meant an enormous francophone bureaucracy (eg, Hull-Montreal-Ottawa).
If it left, politically and economically, it would have to form its own market-driven economy, rather than loafing on the couch of a subsidized and protected economy. So, for example, rather than filing a lawsuit against Wal-Mart for refusing to put in a store in a Quebec town, where all the locals could work - Quebec would have to develop its own Wal-Mart style stores.
It would have to work hard to attract competitive international business, it wouldn't be able to rely on federal subsidies that enable it to lower its prices; it would have to stand on its own.
I see no fiscal or political loss to the ROC with such a move; after all - it would still be there, and I'm sure Montreal and Quebec would still welcome the ROC as tourists! Indeed, it would very much want to attract tourism!
So, I'm against keeping a population that don't want to remain in a federation. Unhappily for such as quebecois separatiste (+atheist), the majority of Quebecers still don't want to leave. And that means - we, in the ROC, still continue to subsidize them. And put up with the political and economic costs of bilingualism...remember, Quebec refuses bilingualism.

I'm not an organizer of the protests and does not know any of the organizers, so am unable to answer your questions about the specifics of the protests. I side with the Serbs because I do not want to see Mohammedans get away with their demographic Jihad to grab land. Read this post on the Mohammedans' morbid interest in Canadian demographics.

I think you could answer some of my questions, for example, why would the Serbs want to retain a population that doesn't want to remain in a federation?
And, how do riots show that the Serbs want the people of Kosovoa to remain in the federation?
I think you can answer those two questions.
Why do you call them 'Mohammedans'? Do you mean Muslims?
When you refer to their 'demographic jihad to grab land', does this mean that you consider that the Serbs have the 'inherent right' to the land of Kosovo?
With regard to your link, this is not a 'morbid interest'. Do you know what 'morbid' means? It means 'diseased' or 'gloomy'. That's a strange adjective to use. Could you explain why you are using it?
As for a religious or other ethnic group being interested in Canadian demographics, I assure you, that such an interest is shown by ALL ethnic groups - and other 'groups' as well. After all, Canada has an Official Policy of Multiculturalism; it actually provides financial benefits and funding for ethnic groups. So, an ethnic group would want to know the demographics of an area; then, it could set up a school and community centre, based on that population size, and apply for a gov't grant.
I think that you could answer the above questions, even though you are not a member of the march's organizing committee.
Posted by: ET at February 21, 2008 7:56 PMAs a meteorologist, I belong to a lot of weather discussion email lists. On the list today came a link to surfacestations.org, which Kate has been mentioning for a LONG time, pointing out the obvious deficiencies in the input into the forecasts of the future climate. Someone on one of the lists (obviously a moonbat) said:
"What bugs me is that he insinuates that because there's a few weather stations placed in bad positions this invalidates all the entire global warming evidence. Do people not understand stats at all?
And it's from a conservative site... Ok, ok, I'm staying away from politics."
To which I responded (to the whole list):
"What bugs me is the insinuation that the input from a few bad stations (actually about 75% of those surveyed thus far, and not even close to all of them have been surveyed) has no effect on the GCMs used and which are taken as gospel, and that "the science is settled". Do people not understand finite differencing to partial differentials, error propagation, damping schemes and their degradation of the approximations derived therefrom, the limitations of computer models and the fundamentally skeptical nature of science at all?"
It has come to my attention that I'm one of very few conservatives on the list. There are quite a few meteorologists on the list, too. Let's see how this works out--whether the scientists actually argue sound science.

Re Kosovo: The issue with Kosovo, and the reason that the rest of the world should be concerned with the precedent, is the fact that 50 years ago the area was 90% Serbian and 10% Albanian. now those figures have been reversed. I don't know the reason for that. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that communist Albania was an even bigger dump than communist Yugoslavia. If a change in ethnic makeup there can change who a territory belongs to, what makes anywhere else in the western world any different. If everyone in Yorkshire is Pakistani, why shouldn't Yorkshire become part of Pakistan? Why shouldn't the Lower Mainland become part of China? Why shouldn't Paris become part of Algeria? This can, and probably will happen. If anyone can tell me why it can't I'd love to here what you think.
Posted by: minuteman at February 21, 2008 9:40 PMI just watched a little bit of incredibly twisted logic on CTV. A pedophile has been released into the Toronto area after serving his sentence. He is deemed to be at a high risk to re-offend. But,the neighbourhood where he will be living is not being named because that would give the rest of the city a false sense of security. WTF ????
Posted by: wallyj at February 21, 2008 9:45 PMminuteman - at one time, the USA didn't exist; at one time, Canada didn't exist. At one time, Russia existed; then became the Soviet Union; then became Russia.
Geographic areas are one thing. Defining them politically is a human construct, and this definition can change. It depends on the people who live there.

Deny that the majority population of a territory is different and repeat it often, then the differences might disappear.
Posted by: jwkozak91 at February 21, 2008 11:29 PMNope, maple stump/AQS, your comment is irrelevant (as well as fallacious, ie, ad hominem isn't an argument).
The FACTS remain, and you, who want Quebec separatism, (and many of us in the ROC support your wishes)..have to deal with FACTS.
1) Your ridiculously low university tuition fees means that the taxpayers of the ROC support your universities. Support your students. Support all those non-Canadian students from France, Belgium, Algeria etc, who are charged the same low tuition as Quebec students. While Canadian students (that's in the same country as Quebec)are charged almost twice as much! When/If you separate, you'll have to deal with those costs, because we in the ROC, won't be paying them.
2)All the other subsidies paid for by the ROC, such as that special dairy allotment, the subsidies to businesses, the many federal offices in Quebec. The repairs to roads, airports, etc etc.
3)As noted, we wish you the best in your goal. It will certainly be economically much better for the ROC. Politically, as well, we won't have to always ensure that 'someone on the committee, research team, board, management..etc' is from Quebec.
Sure, we'd be more than willing to establish strong economic ties with the Sovereign Quebec Nation. But, it will be for VALUE produced by Quebec. Not subsidies, not special deals, not make-work projects.
Cheers and best wishes for a 'Free Quebec' (bound as it is in the repressive connections of federal subsidies and largesse). Heh.

Posted by: cal2 at February 22, 2008 4:26 PMActually ET, my comment is relevant. I wasn’t trying to debate you or criticize your text. On the whole, I agree with you, with some exceptions of course. But overall, your comments on the situation in Quebec are pretty well bang on. No, what irks me about your situation is that you do not consider it relevant to your argument. Well it is. In the same way that a politician who denounces homosexuality, but has a gay lover. In the way that a letter to the editor that is signed by an individual who is actually a paid insider. Omitting relevant facts is intellectual dishonesty. You are just like a member of the Bloc Quebecois that is only too pleased to cash the paycheck and the pension of the institution he wishes to leave. Fact: You are part and parcel of the group that you denounce and from which you profit. You denounce the union that got you that hefty paycheck and pension package. You denigrate the university system under which you flourished. Just come out and say it’s been profitable for you.
And BTW, you don’t know me from Adam. I’m not a separatist. For someone who insists on facts, you’re pretty quick to make them up to bolster your point.
