  1. Good evening, ladies & gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Pursuant to our ongoing exploration of the breadths of music, and for your weekend dancing pleasure, tonight we visit a ghost from disco! From a fairly recent live concert performance in the Netherlands (now complete with orchestral accompaniments, the lack of which was and is one of the greatest weaknesses of a lot of discotheque, or if you prefer, nightclub dance music), here’s Miss Donna Summer with her beautiful voice performing a modern version of her classic MacArthur Park:

  2. General Rick Hillier spoke brilliantly this morning and made me proud I once served.
**As General Rick Hillier, the chief of the defence staff, made clear when he talked to reporters this morning, there is no overnight transition from combat to training. **If your’re in Kandahar, you’re going to be in a combat operation. The Afghan army is not capable of handling security by itself at the moment. If it was we’d have completed our job,** he said.
When it comes to rotating outside Kandahar in the south of Afghanistan, Hillier was equally blunt.
**There are no jobs outside the south where you need troops. President Hamid Karzai has said that Kandahar is his centre of gravity and there is not the same need in the north or the west.**
    ================== Text, thanks Maz2
There was some Liberal theorist idiot making a long, windy and very elegant speech about rotating troops around Afghanistan.
I stated that was a stupid idea. Seems Hillier thinks so too. = TG

  3. Saudi Arabia: Nervously Watching Pakistan
No country in the world, except maybe India, is more concerned with the outcome of the political crisis that is gripping Pakistan than Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi kingdom has a longstanding and intimate relationship with Pakistan. They faced common enemies in the past successfully and face a common enemy today in al Qaeda. They have had a deep strategic military relationship for decades and today have an unacknowledged nuclear partnership to provide the kingdom with a nuclear deterrent on short notice if ever needed.

  4. This ought to be interesting:
“Liberal MP lauded by white supremacists
Last Updated: Friday, February 1, 2008 The Canadian Press”
    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2008/02/01/martin-speech.html
“Liberal Leader Stephane Dion’s office disavowed the motion and suggested Martin will be asked to withdraw it.
“This is not the position of the Liberal Party of Canada or the Liberal caucus or Mr. Dion,” said spokeswoman Leslie Swartman.
“We support the Canadian Human Rights Act and will not entertain changes to it such as this.”
But Martin said he won’t back down, arguing that it’s his right and duty as a parliamentarian to introduce private member’s bills that address issues of importance to his constituents….
Martin noted there are laws against promoting hatred or slandering another person but human rights tribunals are going further, penalizing people for giving offence to someone else.
“I don’t think any self-respecting democracy can trample on freedom of speech, outside of something that is considered slanderous or hate crimes which must be pursued through the courts,” he said.”

  5. An Iranian student in St. John’s was recently convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in an elevator. His defence:
“You can’t expect all males to control themselves
    when the breasts are out”
I put that on my blog and what did I get? A couple thousand pissed off Iranians most of whom agree with him. For example:
“He is a 25 left alone in an elevator with a busty and he has lost his control and got punished for that. Many lose control, in the same way, in driving, in so may other places”
You can read the whole thing here – if you want to come and add some ‘balance’ that would be much appreciated:

  7. Reading for the Weekend: A link earlier this week took me to the site of the Center for the Study of the Presidency, which is self-described as “a non-partisan, non-profit organization … that systematically examines the past successes and failures of the Presidency and relates its findings to present challenges and opportunities”. The report I have been reading is titled “The U.S.-Canada Strategic Partnership in the War on Terrorism”, and it can be found at http://www.thepresidency.org/Publications/Canada.html. It is from 2002, and it is recommended reading for any Canadian as a reminder of our historical roles in international geopolitics. One impression is that John Manley has understood the reality of the world for a long time, and that the historical relationship of Canada with our allies is something that the Jack Laytons and Stephane Dions of our great nation do not comprehend. The Little Man from Shawinigan must have forgot what he said in 2001 as he tolerated the Carolyn Parrishes of his Party. I would recommend it to the parliamentary press gallery but the font is too small and there are not enough pictures.

  8. Calgary Herald – Sat/Feb2
Rob James resigned Friday as president of the new Wildrose Alliance Party of AB. This on the eve of an election call and with the amalgamation of two parties having been recently completed.
More interesting times ahead re the upcoming AB election as this avenue of change has taken a major broadside.

  9. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/02/01/martin-speech.html
This may be just another version of a story referred to above. On this morning’s CBC news, reporter Alison Crawford now simply makes a general reference to “white supremicist websites” that are coordinating a “letter writing campaign” in support of Martin’s motion. There is no reference to support for the motion by any other groups or persons. Interestingly, the piece makes reference to “Richard Warman, an Ottawa lawyer” who has won at least 10 judgments involving hate speech complaints.

  12. Martin is showing his Conservative side. Dionski just can’t allow that. Well he can’t stop him from putting forward a private members bill, surely.
Speaking of Kinsella, he and Garth Turner have to be kindred spirits, they both crave attention, never seem to get enough of it.

  13. Am I alone in wondering why Canadian MSM journalists as a whole do not understand the ramifications of the HRC’s as they now function, (as state thought and expression control), in their OWN country?
Geez if I an uneducated peasant can see it, why can’t the (intelligent journalists ?) not understand it?
Yes you Joan Bryden for one!

  14. Another female liberal appointee is let go.
Maybe Dion should rethink his plan to have 1/3 women. Remember Parrish and a few others.
I read that the new Premier of Sask is cleaning house of all patronage appointments.
With 2 women gone, just maybe all these appointees will wake up and face the fact that they have a job to do, for the Canadian people. All of us, not just liberals and the media. Their job is not to embarass the government, or to belittle it for personal gain, hoping for a senate seat. Wonder how many are in positions only because of their gender, race, lifestyle and contributions to the party.
If these dismissals sends a message to all the rest in positions, to shape up or you will be shipped out, it can only benefit all of us.
Too bad the opposition voted against the man who would have vetted all appointments, and also taking the guts out of the accountability bill.
Funny, when the media mentions accountability, they forget the opposition watered it down to almost nothing.
    We need a conservative majority.

  15. What a waste of everything this Kinsella guy is. He stands by and defends a corrupt and contemptible government only because the money was most likly sloshing his way also. When you steal the amount of money from the public treasury these stinking liberals did for so many years there is lots to slosh around. Every program these scum broght in was set up to skim money off of, just look at how hrdc/gun control/sponsership on and on were set up and you can see how easy it was. The national post is mostly a fireplace starter anyway, but to waste a good tree on this little putz that wouldn’t last 15 minutes in the Alberta oilpatch, makes me puke.

  16. The MSM in almost totality is an arm of the Liberal Party, they’re inbred at this point.
No common sense, no reasoned thinking on anything. It’s oppose everything the Conservatives put forward and smear, skew the facts and condemn everything Harper says no matter what.
To be in favor of the HRC’s as they have evolved, to infringe on our rights and freedoms, is brainless in the extreme. They only have eyes for Liberals, don’t give a damn about the Country. Liberals in power trumps all for the Banana Republic style journalistas.

  17. Interesting – the tactic being used by the HRC bureaucrats, who want to retain Section 13.1 of the Act (otherwise they’d have nothing to do) – and, I suspect, Richard Warman and the CJC, who also want to retain Section 13.1 of the Act so that they can continue their relentless campaign to silence any criticism of Israel – is to align Free Speech with Nazism, with White Supremacists.
Very clever. I’m not sure of the tactics to deal with this, for it is a simple Appeal to Guilt and Emotionalism. IF you are in favour of free speech, THEN, you are in favour of Nazism/anti-semitism.
That is, they are linking free speech directly to ONE specific thought – Nazism. One thought.
What about free speech arguing against Nazism? Or against white supremacism? If you allow this, you have to allow the other side of the argument.
I think the blogosphere has to show that many perspectives favour free speech and that linking it to one perspective is invalid.
And, the blogosphere has to separate Speech from Action or Hate Crime, which is a Criminal Action
“Section 319(1): Public Incitement of Hatred
The crime of “publicly inciting hatred” has four main elements. To contravene the Code, a person must:
    communicate statements,
    in a public place,
incite hatred against an identifiable group,
in such a way that there will likely be a breach of the peace. ”
“Section 319(3) identifies acceptable defences. Indicates that no person shall be convicted of an offence if the statements in question:
    are established to be true
were relevant to any subject of public interest, the discussion of which was for the public benefit, and if on reasonable grounds it was believed to be true
were expressed in good faith, it was attempted to establish by argument and opinion on a religious subject
were expressed in good faith, it was intended to point out, for the purpose of removal, matters tending to produce feelings of hatred toward an identifiable group in Canada ”
The subjective interpretations of an HRC, on the other hand, that what you say is “likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt” can’t meet the above criteria. Exposure to emotions, which are subjective on both sides, is not a ‘breach of the peace’.
So, the fight by the Left against freedom, and in this case, freedom of speech, is in full swing.

  18. The Canadian Press item is the worst type of yellow journalism. I hope they get some scathing feedback over what they’ve done.

  19. Warren picked up the phione and did what he does best. provided talking points and astory line to his position.
The Adler piece was an interesting defence, but the point is it is a defence. There is no co-ordination pushing the position Mr Martin has taken.
And lets be honest, having neo nazi’s and white supremicists as your prominent fellow travellers cant be a good thing from a PR perspective.
If this position is going to be advanced martin needs to pull togerther a bunch of peopel, who come across as reasonable and more importantly point out the unreasonable decisions that Section 13 leads to. Even Warrn admits that the Macleans and Levant complaints are “specious” as he calls them. In other words he knows they went too far.
To win, you have to keep the spotlight on those complaints, use the counter punching that Adler points out and keep hammering away at the unimpeachable macleans and Levant positions. Then raise the behaviour of Mr warmans maximum disruption (pocket lining) campaign.
I know people here want to believe you can give offense to anyone, but if you are to convince the Canadian people you probably shouldnt be using Neo Nazi’s and White supremicists as reference points. It is an honorable battle that can be won with better revidence and references.
    Just my 2 cents

  20. I am so sick and tired,my throat is sore from yelling at the tv and radio, over all the faux outrage over Canadian military’s handling of the ‘detainees’ I would love to see an open and honest poll somewhere, over what should be our priority…the prisoners,or the safety and security of our men and women in Afghan, and if the average Joe Six-Pack really gives a rats a**.I am to the point every time I hear Yawn Black, that doofus Layton,Goodale,Coderre and the list goes on,I could just puke.I wonder as well, what the troops feel when they hear the media over-hype this issue, and slam them.I cannot imagine how this diminishes all the good work they do,and what it does to their commitment to the cause, when these dim-witted politicians and “reporters” side with people that would blow them up in a heartbeat. What is happening to our country?
I am a 50 something female, and I DON’T CARE if some bastard that would kill or maim our guys, gets a little rubber hose treatment,if it helps get info on the bad guys.Listen Dawn,Jacko etc.,just STFU,and for once, show you are Canadian, and honestly SUPPORT our troops.

  21. Me too Sammy. The bloody fools of the Left, that includes the Liberals, trying GET the conservatives on something, anything, no matter how inane.
Why doesn’t Daffy Dawn, Taliban Jack, Hezbollah Coderre, set up a fund to bring the scumbag Taliban “detainees” to Canada, offer them hugs and comfort.
Dion once thought it would be a good idea to bring them here.
It’s pretty hard to believe most people here care a damn about the Taliban. It appears theose who do are getting all the press from the usual Leftoid journalistas/talking heads/scribes.

  22. Dion, the intellectual, and his Liberals are formally against free speech?
That’s interesting link from free speech to support by the white supremecists.
Everyone knows that fascists were all for free speech before they get into power.
It’s only after they in they are office that they try to limit free speech, like say, the Liberals have already done many times in this country.
The Crooked Liberal Party du Canada is lot closer to the fascists in its previous legislation and actions than the CPC ever will be.
Don’t forget it was the Liberal party that made it a requirement to have at least 50 candidates to have an official party in Canada at one time.
All because the big intellectual hero, Trudeau, was so afraid of one or two hillbillies having better ideas than he had.
And don’t forget, it was the anti-democratic Liberals that passed election legislation to limit spending by interested people during federal elections.
At exactly the time of an election when all the information should be made available to the voters, these totalitarian Liberal jerks wanted to limit all public discussion to only the things that the Liberals thought were important.
And then the same people wonder why Cdns are not interested in elections and don’t vote.
    Bizarre.

  23. stephen – could you point me to the ‘Adler defense’? I can’t seem to find it and I’d be interested.
So far, the only defense I can see in favour of keeping Section 13.1 of the HRAct, is that it ‘stops Nazism’, which is ridiculous. Indeed, BigCityLib states that the Act itself was “a law designed to catch Nazis”. Heck, I never knew that. I wonder if anyone else did. And why do we in Canada require a law to ‘catch Nazis’? Is Nazism outlawed?
That also suggests that the Left is really aligning itself with the CJC, who have via Richard Warman, extensively used that Section against what they define as ‘anti-semitism’. Is anti-semitism Nazism? And, shouldn’t anti-any-group be either a private matter or, dealt with under Section 319 of the Criminal Code?
That also suggests that this issue has moved out of the area of reason, and into the area of politics. It’s not about ‘free speech’, and the right and duty of people to openly debate, dissent, argue and come to conclusions – conclusions which may require yet more debate and discussion.
It’s not about the right to like or not like, people and peoples – which is something that no government can legislate even though the HRC tries to do that.
It’s about political power. The right of groups to control ideas about other groups. You have the CJC on one side, who have, via Richard Warman, won all cases they have taken to the HRC. And now, you have to Muslim groups. In both cases, the defendants are Jewish or have Jewish links, though this might not be relevant.
I think that the issue is the political power of a group to silence criticism against that group.
Notice that the HRC is an act against individuals and in favour of group identification.
Notice what the HRC ‘judge’, Lori Andreachuk declared in her ‘judgment’ against an individual who wrote a letter against homosexuality to his newspaper. ‘Exposure of _ (group) to hatred and contempt trumps the freedom of speech afforded by the Charter”. And “It cannot be the case that any speech wrapped in the ‘guise’ of politics or religion is beyond reproach by any legislation but the Criminal Code”.
So, Ms Andreachuck rejects the rights of the individual outlined in both the Charter of Rights AND the Canadian Criminal Code – in favour of the suppression of free speech by an individual.
IF this Motion by Keith Martin is rejected in the House, THEN, the HRC must judge against both Levant and Steyn. Because it is no longer about free speech but about political group power, since the previous HRC cases of the CJC/Richard Warman weren’t about free speech either; they were about the power of a political group to silence criticism.

  24. Ah, yes.  BigCityLib.
Otherwise known as the High Priest of The Church of the SubMoron.  Honestly, does anybody in Canada read this bloviating gasbag’s ramblings anymore?

  25. ET,
It was the link above….but here is the direct link
    http://www.am770chqr.com/station/blog_the_world_tonight.cfm?bid=21818
Essentially, the argument is that what you want is bad because Nazi’s want it as well….so the link points out that the Neo Nazi’s and White Supremicists also opposed the Iraq War, as did Mr Chretien. So by Warrens logic any position held by Neo NAzi’s is bad in and of itself so his position opposing the Iraq War must have been a bad and untenable one.
As opposed to saying regardless of its supporters a position needs to be evaluated. Essentially evaluate no matter who the fellow travellers are.
I agree but my point is horribly practical, if the position gets painted as being supported by ONLY neo nazi’s and white supremicists you will lose the PR and ultimately political battle.
Byt I liked the position laid out on Adler’s site…it is a good retort. But you cant stay on the defensive, you need to be on offense, which Levant and Steyn;s case allows.
My other point was Warren is just beginning to crank up the PR engine. There needs to be a counter

  26. Further to prev post, where are Dawn Black,Alex Neve,Layton,Coderre, etc.on the truly dispicable new tactic of using females with Down’s Syndrome as suicide bombers?Horrible silence on this one,and if it works in Iraq, coming soon to Afghan?? Where’s the outrage on this reprehensible act?Oh yeah..they are all too busy fighting for the terrorists!

  27. ET,
Your comment on the vote in House, should it happen, is highly relevant.
Votes in parliament are taken into account by judges to indicate where interpretations of legislation are proscribed.
The case of same sex marriage made specific reference to the House’s “non vote” on the issue as indicative that there was no longer any legislative objection to this interpretation.
Failure of the House to speak on an issue is relevant based on that SC ruling. This was a way for the judges to say that they werent just making it up but taking guidance from Parliament.
On one level I am happy about that, the SC restates that the legislature is relevant.
So, if the House wishes to proscribe the power of section 13, even a non binding resolution would be considered, but not with the same weight as Parlaiment ammending the legisaltion.
In a minority Parliament, a vote against Sec 13 abolition would only strengthen it and would require its abolition in the next con majority.
A non vote could allow for other forms of direction. Count on the NDP to vote against, half the Liberal caucus to vote against….not sure where the Bloc would vote.
If it comes to the vote, losing it is a very bad thing in that it would strengthen the HRC and Section 13 in the eyes of “real Courts”

  28. Stephen said: “And lets be honest, having neo nazi’s and white supremicists as your prominent fellow travellers cant be a good thing from a PR perspective.”
Actually, yes it can, and should be. This represents the very core of what freedom of speech means. As a hate crime, speech has to have the 4 elements ET outlined above. In particular, the 4th element, to incite to actionable violence is where the line is. Free speech means a Neo-Nazi can stand up and say that its all the Jews fault, and the white supremicists can stand up say, “lookee here, we’re God’s people” (parallel intentional). You, or I or even Dick and Warman Kinsella are quite free to say to both of them, “you’re full of crap, more so than us”. That is what “freedom of speech” means. But when the neo-nazis and the white supremicists exhort their colleagues to take action, or when Dick and Warman Kinsella incite a star chamber to take action, then the test for 4th element has been met, and all them, including Dick and Warman Kinsella, have committed a hate crime. And make no mistake, the actions of these two meet the test – the only thing that’s saving their butts is the star chamber itself.

  29. Skip,
I am not saying someone doesnt have the right to hold those views or thoughts. Publishing them is a tricky thing that all societies have to wrestle with. Germany with its History bans it outright, but you wouldnt say it isnt a democracy.
My point is that if you make white supremicists and Neo Nazi’s as the point of the spear of your defence you WILL LOSE the PR and and Political battle.
You can only do that if you are the ACLU, whose bona fides are generally unquestioned when it comes to defence of rights, particularly from the left.
The Neo Nazi’s and White Supremicists are fellow travellers on this issue but if you want to give the master of spin, Warren K, an easy time you will highlight it. I am not saying you disavow them, you would never get away with it, you need to explain their presence. If they have been cuaght in the same driftnet then they are part of the defence. But if they are perceived to be the ONLY thing caught in the legisaltion you will not get any sympathy from Canadians….just a fact of life. The analogy is nobody cares when a US airstrike kills Al Queda, but as soon as innocent civilians are, even if the target is Al Queda, then people get upset.
This is either an unreasoanble limit on free speech or it isnt. The unreasnonableness will be judged by Canadians…and if it only catches Neo Nazi’s and White Supremicists then most Canadians wont see it as unreasoanble (whether thats a right or wrong thing is another matter)
Section 13 is catching legitimate speech, Steyn and Levant, and most Canadians would agree with that, even Warren. the fact that Section 13 enables that is why it needs to be severley proscribed or ideally limited.
Getting a headline that White Surpremicists propose legislation….I suspect Warren wrote the headline himself in the brief he sent CP. If you want more of that then keep the focus on White Supremecists and Neo Nazi’s…..problem is you will lose. And if the loss comes in the form of the legislation being voted down in the House then you will have succeeded in strengthening Section 13 rather than the other goal of getting rid of it.

  30. Kate is absolutely correct to point out the “yellow journalism” aspect of this story.
Stephen @ 12.33 pm makes valid points.
Therefore Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn must remain engaged fully as should Charles Adler, David Frum, George Jonas, Barbara Amiel, Karen Selick et al in the face of the MSM and CP “yellow journalism” in this issue of the toxic HRC reach on speech.

  31. This is why nobody wants these savages:
“Egypt searches for Palestinian terror cell,”
    from the Associated Press:
Egyptian security forces were looking for four Palestinians on Friday who slipped into the country from the Gaza Strip and were suspected of planning suicide attacks against resorts in the Sinai Peninsula, a local security official said.
The search follows the arrests of 15 Palestinians over the past few days who were caught carrying weapons and explosives in the town of el-Arish, located some 35 kilometers (22 miles) from the border, and other remote parts of the Sinai desert.
    ———–
Even if Israel offered to give the Gaza strip back to Egypt, I doubt they’d take it. A right to have their own country? No, a right to have their own terrorist launching pad.

  32. I just finished watching the opening ceremony for the battle of Ontario match up of the Ottawa Senators at Toronto Maple Leafs on CBC HNIC.
A young army 2LT sang the Canadian national anthem and was properly introduced by his rank and name by the Air Canada Centre announcer.
Unfortunately, before he had barely finished delivering the opening verse, the CBC summarily demoted him to the rank of PTE when they posted his name at the bottom of the screen.
Remind me again why in hell I am paying for this bullshit.
Signed: one very pissed off former 2LT.

  33. Is it just my perseption or is the left winning every battle in Canada? Our society is eroding daily, welfare for a life time and we are on generation three. Children born and on the birth certificate the section that states Father is left blank because the female hasn’t a clue who daddy is for all five children. Record surpluses in our social saftey net programs and the left used private pension money to pay down the debt but mentally ill people have no place to go because the tolerant leftards shut down small option homes and mental hospitals. Our youth get welfare and sell dope so they can drive suped up cares while high. The anything goes mentality regarding sex will legalize incest if we aren’t viligent. Our police forces get racial sensitivity training and bi-sexual sensitivity training, sexual equality training etc. so when do they have time to brush up on the Criminal Code?
I meander over to liberal blogs and my stomach turns, every other word is hate, bigot or racist and they are discussing the waitress who served them coffee. They see hate where none exist, they see racism when race isn’t an issue and who’s a bigger bigot than the leftards? HRC telling Christians you can’t quote the bible because it’s pre-crime. Radical Muslims filing complaints because a magazine post pictures of Mofo, it’s a crime in Islamic States but not in Canada but alas the HRC is now enforcing Islamic Sharia Law.
A career complaintant makes a money vis vie damages awarded him for hunting down stupid white men who post “The Jews are taking over the world” and this is deemed by the left as progression?
Stop the world I want to get off, all I see is Liberal Ideology in every aspect of the Federal Government. Victims rights don’t exist anymore because the left coddle criminals, judges who there–there pedophiles with judgements stating “I’m sure you are a good man and you had a lapse in judgement” when you raped five little girls under the age of ten.
I’m beginning to hate this country, I had such high hopes when Harper got elected. Sadly he’s just another party leader pandering to minorities in Ontario and Quebec. The Conservative party is just another Liberal Light Party. Canada is under the control of four left leaning socialist tard parties.
Harper’s silence regarding the HRC and it’s SSS Agents speaks volumes to me. Those that died in Europe must be rolling around their graves in rage over what the left have done to this country. They died fighting Nazis and the HRC is an arm of Nazi ideology. Thought police, pre-crime adjudicators and Christian persecuters in the name Homophobia. Warman and Kinsissyla stalking the net looking to find victims of pre-crime. There has never been a credible threat to Jews in Canada the CJC should be ashamed. Silencing free speech under the guise of hunting down stupid white men who post in their garages or basements isn’t a threat to Jews. However Political Islam and Radical Islam is a threat, yet utter silence from CJC?
Sorry I needed to vent, not that anyone will actually read this.
Wanted a country where I’m allowed to be free, will work hard assimilate and be loyal. Are there any countries left that meet this criteria?

  34. Rose – we read it.
My wife and I went for a drive in the country this afternoon (South Eastern Saskatchewan). We came across the small town of Saltcoats and drove through it.
    We visited their war memorial.
    220 volunteered. 79 died. WWI.
Over one third of their young men never came home. Every family must have lost someone.
They weren’t fighting to make Europe the Islamic state it is today. Maddening.

  35. Cattlemen will interested to find out that US Farm Report this Sat AM did a report on a meat packing plant in California that had video showing downer cattle being moved into a slaughter plant.
Animal Abuse people took it with secret camera.
    For more go to:
    http://brain.hastypasty.net/forums/showthread.php?p=207620
The plant has supplied much meat to the school lunch programs in the US over the last 5 yrs.
More to come on this I’m sure.

  36. I’m a little baffled over the denial of the right of free speech as defined by the HRCs.
Way back in High School I read Mein Kampf. The other day I was in the public library and it was still on the shelf. I compare that bit of work with a cartoon of a bearded man telling other men suffering bomb damage to stop because we are out of virgins I begin to wonder do HRCs even recognize hate literature?
I read the Qur’an and on every second page there is a call to violence and murder and compare it to some cartoon of a bearded man with a bomb in his trurban. Whither the HRCs?

  37. Anyone else write their CP MP? Usually I hear back immediately, but not on this issue (CHRC).

  38. “Saskatchewan First Nation bids farewell to tots who froze to death” (CP)
“I’m glad it is finally over. Now the healing can begin with my daughter and my son-in-law,” Nippi said. “When we went to lay my grandchildren to rest, I was very proud of her and my son-in-law Chris, because they were so strong.” – words from the girls’ maternal grandmother, Irene Nippi

I’m not anywhere near feeling “proud” of her son-in-law Chris. He should be in jail for murder. I can’t believe a grandmother could use such a word to describe a drunkard dumping his defenseless kids in a snowbank to freeze to death. “Glad it’s finally over”??? I’m speechless – the kids died only a handful of days ago. There should be no gladness or finality over this.
I wonder what fate the unborn child being carried by the mom of those two tots will be. There’s no moral compass guiding those people. Maybe they can understand and accept the drunk bastard defense on a Sask reserve more than I can. My level of understanding can’t grasp why two girls died and everyone seems to be powerless to do right by them. They deserve much better.

  39. I have a hard time protecting this guy’s right to free speech. It’s an open incitement to violence, and treason if you ask me.

Mississauga university student who says he knows the Khadr’s calls for attacks on Canadian troops, Jews, and even Peter MacKay.
“Saying anti-war protests “will do sh$$,” he describes a “mass casualty” attack on the home-front as “a well considered option” and “the best way to compel western soldiers to get out of Afghanistan/Iraq.”
Such an attack “would be fantastic and would get the job done,” he writes. “If someone gets the bright idea of committing such a wonderful act, it’s NOT my responsibility in any way, shape or form.”
He wrote, “I enjoy watching the blood flow from the western troops,” and during Defence Minister Peter MacKay’s Christmas week visit to Kandahar, he wrote: “I pray that the Taliban kill our Mackay motherf—er.””
    Scary.

  40. Rose, I read what you say and agree: Canada’s in very sad shape–not what my dad and grandfathers fought for.
I don’t know if I’m right in defending Stephen Harper and the Conservtives. However, remember, they are a minority government with Big Bad Enemies in this country. My take is that we should still support PMSH and his party. Until–and unless–they get a majority, they’re in a very vulnerable position.
So, Rose, don’t give up on them yet. IF they get a majority and don’t come through, that will be real cause for despair, on their account. (And, even then, they’ll be better than the alternative.)
We’re between a rock and a hard place, that’s for sure.
