Filmed in 2006 at CFB Cold Lake, Jetstream chronicles the experiences of seven students – one woman, six men – who reckon with rigorous and exhausting training in the 410 Tactical Fighter Squadron. Their day-to-day activities include intense flying missions in the military’s $35 million CF-18 Hornet, simulator flights and ground school. The workload is intense, the geometry is mind-numbing, and the day is never done.
The eight-part documentary begins 10 pm ET, Tuesday, Jan. 8.
Before this series re-airs on CBC there will be some editing:
it will be about seven student hero activists in the people’s united earth revolution… striking a blow against the global imperialist Bush-Harper war machine by sabotaging CAF equipment under the noses of their warmonger indoctrinators….there will be a voice over of the original sound track done by George Strombibil…er Strombubob…er.. George “S” and Avi Lewis…this will get the 18-25 age group ratings back for CBC.

I will try to watch some of the episodes of Jetstream. There will be nostalgia touched with some posthumous jealousy.The nostalgia derives from the fact that I went through the Strike/Recce Operational Training Unit, Course 7, at Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake on the CF104 – Starfighter in 1962. I left Cold Lake, bound for CFB Ziebruchen, Germany, on the day President Kennedy was shot. The mild jealousy is because we did not get the same public adulation these pilots are getting today. Never mind, I am pleased they are getting what they richly deserve.
A correction on the year I went through the CF 104 course at Cold Lake, that should have been 1963, not 1962.
As a former “cougar” Hornet tech, I spent many really early mornings getting the jets ready for students just like these (1989 to 1993). What is really cool is that some of the senior instructor pilots (Noodle and Spanky) were a couple of green “wanna be’s” who I prepped jets for and strapped in for flight. The student(s) have become the master(s). I am eagerly looking forward to this show!
I feel the need… the need for speed!
If the CBC is airing a series about the accomplishments of CFB Cold Lake, that’s a first since WWII! Usually we get documentaries about “the evils of military weapons.” I usually click on a site named “Military.Com” (Yankee) when I want to know anyhting concerning Canada’s Forces. Sad!!!
