A more businesslike interpretation of those results is that Canwest management is good at rolling with the punch, if not thriving despite a more general decline. This kind of performance makes stock analysts sweat: does Asper management really have the golden touch, or has the flood simply not reached them yet? If an analyst puts a “buy” out on Canwest on the former basis, only to find that the Aspers’ adroitness only delayed the industry decline hitting CanWest so far, then (s)he’ll be in – well, a tough spot.
