I experienced something similar on a non-stop flight from Beijing to Toronto in August 2007. The man sitting next to me across the aisle (very drunk) took offense with me when he asked if I was a Canadian citizen. I replied “Yes, 2nd generation in fact”. The entire rest of the flight he proceeded to taunt me, 2 inches from my face – then started kicking me and grabbing my arms. AC personnel intervened, advising me I could have the Captain arrest the man. I declined. The man was a Sikh, and I feared his community would firebomb my house. China seemed so civilized in comparison! Welcome home!

They can clearly be heard saying ‘you’re going to your mother’ so they must know something. As for shouts of f*****g white people, allahu akbar etc. etc., allow me to point out his agitated state (in case no one noticed)? A white Christian having a panic attack would yell out ‘Jesus help me’ or the like, and any slurs he throws around could just easily be contributed to his apparent mental health issues. We should have pity on a man like this, not attack him.

Not sure I could be very compassionate if I were sitting next to the guy, but I suspect that the “shirts” with him were there for a reason. Looking at the tape, it seemed to me that they knew him and were aware of his disability(?).
I don’t think they would have been so gentle if it had been a case of somebody that presented a real danger to other passengers.

I may be wrong, but I assume that when Kate says, “I smell a human rights complaint coming on” she was suggesting that the CIC might take offence, resulting in a HRC complaint against the filmaker, and Air Canada. After all, a man who looks like an Indian or Pakistani and who yells “Allahu Akhbar!!”could be a Muslim. And this video shows him in a bad light. Whatever the reason for his behaviour, the simple fact that the video is being shown on “YouTube” could be contorted as yet another “racist” insult to Islam. And, in the reasoning of the CIC and the HRC, just the possibility that this could be perceived by some Muslims as discrimination on the basis of religion, is grounds enough for a complaint.
While most commenting on the video have taken the tack that the man must have been having a panic attack or some other such mental breakdown, I was rather dismayed at the few who jumped to the type of conclusions that just feed fuel to the fire. If just one white person, through his/her comments wishes to justify Elmasry, then these less than savoury comments are the way to go. If, on the other hand, we wish to disabuse Muslims of the notion that any real and justifiable problems we have with some of them (terrorism, honour killings, misogyny) are just “religious bigotry” then I suggest a personal policy of “engage thy brain before opening thy mouth!”
Judging by the comments and demeanor of the 2 guys restraining the nutter,this sure looks to me like a standard,commercial flight,escorted deportation operation.
He probably was a low priority,non-violent, voluntary removal,which is why he wasn’t in handcuffs,but of course when he went berserkers they had to slap on the white flex-cuffs you can see dangling from his wrists in the video.
I would like to see the 9 Justices of the SCOC, and numerous Human Rights Tribunal adjudicators on this flight and ask them in the heat of the moment about the rights and freedoms of this passenger and the way he is acting. His mental illness or no mental illness involved, does he have the right to terrorize the flight. Does the well being of the rest of the passengers fit in to the equation anywhere. The answers would be interesting indeed.

For the record I once met a perfectly horrible woman who was married. I also have a really nice relative who is single. For my part, I find Kate highly intelligent, honest, and insightful (attractive too!): a woman of resolve and get-up-and-go, who’s providing a vital service to the citizens of this benighted country. (For Jen: “who’s” in the previous sentence stands for “who is”. It’s a contraction. “Who’s” can also stand for “who has”.)
Although our lefty Canadian elites, especially those in the media, pay lip service to tolerance and diversity, they honour no such thing. Kate has provided a very welcome forum, where issues, such as Islam’s negative impact on our society, which are stifled, spun, and/or censored by the MSM, can now see the light of day.
Bit by bit, blogs like Kate’s are giving ALL Canadians a chance to have their voices heard. For a person who apparently approves of diversity and tolerance, I’d have thought someone like Jen would be pleased to see such attributes in action.

These are the facts, idiot. All of your ad homs and insulting conservatives change nothing: islam is the problem, not the west’s increasing awareness of it.
In the 1980’s the west was fearful of WWIII, to be fought between the US & the Russians. As it turns out, this was not a concern because neither side believed “winning” that war was worth the cost of victory (that & Reagan’s pushing the Soviets into total bankruptcy).
However, WWIII can be thought of as a more insidious, elusive war: it is a war of western culture against islam, which is spreading across the globe like a cancer, leaving agony and bodies in its wake. The MSM and liberals alike are working assiduously to ensure we lose this war; incidents depicting islam in a negative light are either glossed over entirely or whitewashed (ref. Aqsa Parvez’ recent murder).
To win a war of culture, first you must actually want to win; islam has the will to win, but it’s not appearing we do. It’s not bigotry to proclaim western culture superior to that of the islamic world: just follow the immigration. That’s why you have hundreds of thousands from the middle east uprooting to the west, and nobody on the return flights. All PC hogwash aside, even the muslims know where the culture is inferior and where the opportunities lie.
People like jen are helping us lose the battle, with their reflexive PC slurs of bigotry against people who honestly object to the tactics of the enemy. This war must also be won on the home front by the citizens of the west; islam understands this and exploits our own weakness (e.g. HRC complaint against Macleans Mag & Mark Steyn, & others).
Before jen et al predictably accuse me of bigotry and racism, I will qualify I have nothing against muslims who immigrate to this country to live as Canadians and leave their religous baggage behind. This is a challenge, considering the damaging liberal doctrine of multiculturalism that provides no incentive for immigrants to assimilate. However, where are all those “moderate muslims” in decrying the atrocities committed in the name of their religion? Maybe they are in England, where 36% of muslims polled believed Britain should be ruled by shariah law, eh? Tarek Fatah notwithstanding, they seem to be missing in action here in Canada.

…unfortunately it is too late my friend. It would take at least two generations to undo the mess, but that is if the generation changes. Right now the demographics don’t support it. With retiring baby boomers, or going off the map so to speak, the younger generation will have to fill the gap. Now tell me, which younger generation is willing to do service jobs like Wendy’s, Hotel clerks, or become Retirement Homecare personnel?
We are doomed as a society unless the youth today take responsibility for their parents (white and others) mistakes.
