Kick off is just under an hour away. For Sask expats (or the just plain curious) who can’t get the game on TV, you can listen live at 620 CKRM Regina (and get a better play by play than the CBC). From the reports coming out of a completely befuddled Toronto, the stands are going to be about 75% green&white.
As an indicator of just how big a deal this game is for the province – yesterday’s Regina Leader Post featured 32 pages of coverage.

“The streets are KAOS….oops..I mean Chaos!!!!! Albert St and Vic is impassable, the intersection had to have 1000 people standing on the streets and sidewalks. The Albert St bridge is packed with
cars and people walking carrying flags open beer, which will get them in trouble, Horns honking…..and jsut bedlam!
I ran into Joyce D. ( WF Terriers) at my parents apartment lobby, and she said there was a totally naked guy running down Albert St. between the cars….she said she forgot her camera! hahaha….We made it out to Victoria via McIntyre and headed east to home…..the noise and traffic is incredible…what a great win for all of Saskatchewan!!!”
We should take a page out of Edmonton’s book and not waste any time in erecting road signs at every border entrance… “PROVINCE of CHAMPIONS”…since our new premier, Brad Wall, will begin the task shortly by making sure the premier of Manitoba honors the bet they had made. Perhaps we could finally sweep away the last vestiges of the “good enough” attitude that has pervaded this province for so many years. The change of government and this win could mark the end of mediocrity in this province once and for all. Go Riders!
I was at the game ($327 ticket, for which I paid nada).
Interesting to see fans of all teams in attendance. Some Lions fans in full get-up and face paint sat right behind me. Bomber fans directly in front, Rider fans all around. In fact the stadium was largely green.
Best sign was in the north end-zone: “B.C. Lions W.T.F ?!”
Which to me says it all – both the Lions and the Argos should be kicking themselves for not getting into this game.
Let’s build a giant tower in Regina and call it The Johnson!

Forgot to ask: Did they show the marriage proposal on TV? During each break they ran something in the stadium to keep the fans entertained, and in the first quarter they had something going on that in the end was just a ruse so a guy could propose to his girlfriend. They took so long doing it the teams stood there waiting for them to get it over so they could snap the ball. (Fans didn’t even have the chance to say “Noooooooo.”)
Those TV breaks have got to go – they really do in the momentum of the game.

To all Toronto football fans, you had your chance for the cup but you re-elected liberals. Sask got rid of the NDP and see what happened.

Kate doesn’t think the Riders could have pulled it through with the NDP in office, but let’s be honest, most of the riders probably have no idea who is in office. If you’re an American up in the Canadian farm leagues, Canadian politics are probably not as great as a focus for you as the typical visitor to this site.
I think Kent Austin deserves most of the credit for gettting the team in shape. That said I also think this adds to a sense of enthusiasm and optimism in the province which is anything but a bad thing. It was great to see them pull this off!

Regardless of the crime stats, if the Bills move to Toronto from Buffalo I will stop going to the games. There is no way in hell I’m going to pay twice as much for a ticket, drive to some mass transit station so I can get downtown from the burbs, pay $20 for a beer and $10 for a crummy sausage, and not be able to enjoy the atmosphere of a tailgate party in the parking lot (having beer purchased at the duty free on the way over). The CFL is just right for our uniquely Canadian attitudes towards fun.
