CUPE full of Lies?

The Sask Party demands that CUPE refrain from doing their masters bidding.

“No one is disputing the right of unions or other agencies to speak
out and make their views known to the electorate — that’s part of our
democratic process,” McMorris said. “But, for a union to distribute
this pack of lies in a deliberate attempt to scare vulnerable people
truly goes beyond what’s acceptable.” – Don McMorris

Sorry, Don, but that’s like asking salmon to pass on the run.

CUPE is, has been, and will be in the pocket of the NDP. They’re the trump card. Demanding they not lie about Sask Party intentions in seniors’ homes and hospitals is like asking the sun to not rise in the east.

Asking that people go and read the Sask Party policies and guidelines for themselves isn’t as easy as scaring people by having the union’s representative drop off propaganda.

Too bad.

Cheers,
lance

  1. I always thought that the NDP doing those kind of things was just an urban legend, but 4 days before the last Prov. election my mother phoned all upset because she was going to be kicked out of the senior’s carehome if she didn’t vote for the NDP
I tried to explain that it wouldn’t happen…she had made up her mind, she wouldn’t vote. scared the crap right out of her…..
How can these people(CUPE/NDP) sleep at night? I know some seniors can’t because of them…

  2. I am a union employee with one of the bigger unions in Canada. I pay my dues every month as I should. My union no longer uses thier power to better my compensation, but have a mindset that they can give us the basics and use our monies to better the world. After all we elected them, therefore they are what we want. I really don’t know where I am going with this, but I am seriously pissed off at how unions have gone from looking after their members to being a social force……….. BTW,and to no one’s surprise that works near me,my union does not return my calls on any matter, yet the people that work close to me(about 70 of them) do agree with about 90% of what i say. Unions are necesary, but I do wish they would stay out of matters that do not concern them. The #1,and #2 and so on, concern of any union must be it’s members.

  3. Its a sure sign that Lorne the Gopher is calling the election next week when he sends the troops out in advance to spread smear and fear. It makes me wonder how the polling numbers must truly be comming in.
For any one who believes the crap they are spreading, maybe you deserve the misery we’ve all lived with for the past 16 years. For those who don’t, this is a call to arms, get off your duff and bring in a vote for change. You owe it to your childern.

  4. I am a member of a provincial government union, I won’t say which one (cough cough CEP cough) and I am fed up with this kind of crap from them as well. Everytime an election rolls around they spread NDP claptrap through their newsletter telling us all the woe and bad tidings that will befall us should we fail to reelect the NDP. I savagely dislike the NDP and I do not care to see my union dues going towards supporting them or their election machine. A machine operated on the principle of frightening the blue haired grannies into believing they will be turfed out into the cold and convincing union members that they will lose their jobs. I shed a tear each time I learn that people still fall for this kind of bullshit.

  5. lance:
Deny away. Campbell made all sorts of promises of not making cuts, etc. before he got elected, and he promptly broke them after becoming Premier. The Sask Party will do the same if they win. Only the naive would think otherwise.
    wallyj and noddyrules:
Do you attend your monthly union meetings? If, as wallyj writes, 90% of your co-workers disagree with what’s going on then it’s up to you to change it. If you don’t do anything about it then you deserve to reap the rewards of apathy.

  6. I would like to meet the people who do this kind of crap… what have the NDP become? Tommy Douglas would be so proud of them and their supporters…

  7. Lavrentiy, I’m not denying anything. I’m saying that you’re alleging the SP’s will do what the BC Liberals did. I provided the links for you to go and see for yourself what the SP’s are going to do. Apparently that’s too hard. Which ironically is the point of the post . . . if you missed it.
So, just out of curiosity, what was it that the BC Liberals did to BC that hurt you so much? Moving out of have-not?
I wish I had your magic 8-ball to see into the future of Saskatchewan. I might just win that million one day.
    Cheers,
    lance

  8. “CUPE is, has been, and will be in the pocket of the NDP.”
Personally, I always thought it was the other way around – The NDP was in CUPE’s pocket.

  9. lance:
I did read their policy. Are you claiming that if they win, they will maintain the status quo with regard to health care workers and other public servants? Come on, who are you try to kid?
As for what the BC Liberals did, perhaps you don’t have a problem with contracts being ripped up and workers being laid off or having their wages cut by 30%. However, the Supreme Court does.
I remember all the Alberta welfare immigrants coming to BC when Harcourt was Premier. Even when the economy slowed down due to the Asian economic problems, BC didn’t become a have not province until the Liberals took over. Despite Liberal claims, they had nothing to do with the economy taking off…unless Gordon Campbell is a magician who controls interest rates, world commodity prices and real estate prices.
I don’t have a crystal ball so my predictions are certainly not 100% accurate, but history has a funny way of repeating itself.

  10. Notice how beria doesn’t bother with the ethics of bullying seniors to achieve his political purpose, instead he sidelines it with vague predictions.
Here’s a tip; nobody hired your union pals to function as unpaid political officers. This is one of the most galling aspects of the union movement – uneducated, pot-bellied bullies trying to force people to support them.

  11. The best thing that happened here in BC was the reducing the NDP to nothing. Our economy is now strong, we no longer have 10 percent of our employable population colecting welfare. HEU employees are no longer making 3 times the private sector wages, with NDP’s great leader Carol James stating that she was against the twining of the Port Mann she just lost the vote of every one who has been stuck in the traffic jam waiting to get across that mess. Which is probably over half of our population.
Oh iberia BC was declared a have not province in April 2001, a month before the Liberals were elected in BC.

  12. WTF is with all the lovely dovey CUPE is doing this for Sask ads on TV? Not to mention the Health District report mailed to our house (which shows an increase in management and documents no increases in nurses for three years).
Love the ‘salt the earth’ promises coming out, and even recycling the Belle Plain ethanol plant (which will take until 2020 or so to complete).
IF the NDP do get elected, they will have a costly time living up to their running of the lips. I’d rather support SP to dismantel the expensive bullsh*t and focus on real improvement.

  13. After reading the above, and how people believe the threats etc. no wonder millions of dollars are scammed out of cdns every year via frauds.

  14. I remember all the Alberta welfare immigrants coming to BC when Harcourt was Premier.
Only one problem, Lavrenty, there was no swell in welfare rolls anywhere in the country after the Alberta cuts. A few did move to other provinces to suck off their teats; the rest stayed here and found jobs.
Imagine that – remove the easy option and the lazy start to fend for themselves. Whoda thunk it?

  15. The Sask Party has an ideology. It’s reasonable to base one’s assessment of the likely actions of that party when in power on the ideology of the party and the behaviour of parties with the same or similar ideology, rather than on their stated policies. What kind of naive idiot would ignore ideology and history for what is said in an election pamphlet, whether online or hard copy?
Kathryn’s comment is far more revealing of the ideology of your party than the propaganda it is putting out for election purposes.

  16. lberia, the status quo for health care, longest waiting lists in canada, anyone can do better than that

  17. No, Lavrentiy, I don’t expect the status quo. Seeing as you “read” the SP’s policies you undoubtable remember this part from the Health section . . . right?
” HE05-5. Supporting the Expansion of Home Care
Be it resolved a Saskatchewan Party government will support the expansion of homecare services
as a means to allow seniors to stay in their own homes.
HE05-6. Retaining, Recruiting and Training Health Professionals
Be it resolved that a Saskatchewan Party government will reduce the shortage of medical
professionals through a province-wide retention, recruitment and training strategy by:
    a) Implementing quality workplace initiatives to ensure health care personnel are full participants in developing solutions to health care challenges;
    b) Retaining Saskatchewan health sciences graduates by forgiving a portion of their student loan debt for every year they remain in Saskatchewan;
    c) Focusing on recruiting former Saskatchewan residents who have left the province and attracting new professionals in areas where there is an identified shortage through tax incentives and streamlined credential recognition; and
    d) Developing a long-term plan to increase training seats for medical professionals in the province. ”
So, no, I expect the SP’s to ensure that we aren’t wasting millions of dollars paying for pork in the Regional Health Boards and then taking that waste and directing it to front-line health workers.
Funny too, that SUN’s (Sask Union of Nurses) Rosallee Longmore (sp?) seems to agree with me and has endorsed the SP’s Health plans.
But then, you’re in BC, so you wouldn’t know that.
Yes, there is an agenda exile, an agenda to provide health-care workers for our elderly and sick . . . not political plums for supporters.
    Cheers,
    lance

  18. lberia, lets talk about job losses, the NDP under Romanow when he first took power fired all senior staff at the dept of EDUCATION. this is or was a job where politics should not interfere. Romanow brought in his loyal NDP people. a relative of mine was 2nd in charge of the dept. the person that replaced my relative telephoned him a week later wanting to know what the job was about. my relative packed his bags and went to the USA with his DOCTORATE of education and finished his career running the dept. of Education at an American university.
lets talk about the NDP firing Civil servants. the NDP has done this but they accuse others of having this as a secret agenda. NDP equals liars.
    wake up lberia

  19. lberia, Minister John Nilson brought in the largest increases in monthly rents for SENIORS living in NURSING HOMES. what a joke the NDP are when it comes to HEALTH CARE.

  20. One of the downsides of our sound bite popular culture is that if someone gave these pamphlets the proper reponse, something like “OH MY GOD!!!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!! THE SASK PARTY MIGHT WIN THE NEXT ELECTION!!!!! THEY’RE GOING TO RUIN EVERYTHING!!!!!”, then it is very easy to twist it around to turn it against the speaker. Realistically, that’s all the response it deserves though. While exile talks about ideology that’s hidden through public statements (wait a minute, wouldn’t that be a HIDDEN AGENDA?) leave us not forget that the Regina Manifesto was still available on the NDP’s website until their last site redesign. For all we know, it’s still available in the member’s only section.
I’ve got an idea – instead of surmising what the “hidden agenda” of the SK Party is, why don’t we start speculating on what the NDP’s hidden agenda is?

  21. lberia what has Calvert done for the middle class. well Calvert has given increases to welfare recipients in each of the last 3 years. Calvert has spent millions on social housing for the poor. not one thing for the middleclass.
you must not pay taxes lberia because you must be unaware that in Saskatoon we pay the highest education taxes in the country. you must be one of the CALVERT WELFARE recipients that are receiving all that SASK. has to offer.

  22. If the Sask Party really is the same as the BC Liberals, then SK has a bright future ahead of it. The BC government is the most competent we have had in decades and the citizens of BC know it. They will kick the stuffing out of the NDP in the next election, for the third time in a row.

  23. lberia lets talk about health care. my grandmother determinate while on a waiting list for two years waiting for hip surgery. she was 79 years old. she was so strung out on morphine for the pain that she would telephone me, her grandson and cry on the phone. meanwhile my 89 year old grandfather in the nursing home was at the end of his life. my grandmother would go twice a day to visit him, then once a day, then every other day as her condition got worse.
the sad thing lberia is that my grandparents saved every penny they ever made. if my grandmother could have spent some of that money and had hip replacement here in Saskatchewan and not be far away from grandpa she would have just to ease the pain. (by the way my grandfather never made more than 15 dollars per hour all his life.) I wonder if you as a good union member make that much?
the NDP and their brand of health care can go to f’n hell. I will never forgive the NDP style of HEALTH CARE as long as I live
wake up lberia, you may find yourself on that waiting list one day. think back to this letter as the pain drives you to tears.

  24. The NDP/CUPE has done us a huge favour. In politics you must define your opponent. This defines them as liars who are quite willing to use lies to scare the old and weaker members of society for their political game.
Now is the time to write letters to the editor and hit the phone in shows defining them as the liars they are.
The Sask Party should be all over this with ads with Brad Wall showing the NDP care about power more than morals and honesty.

  25. lance:
All I can say is we’ll see if they live up to their promises IF they get elected.
    randall g:
The BC Libs have screwed up a lot of things, but they have had three things in their favour…a booming economy (hardly their doing); favorable media coverage from their CanWest lackies(the BC Rail scandal and the cost overruns on the Vancouver convention center, for example, hardly ever get mentioned); and the incompetence of NDP leader Carole James.
    dj:
I’m sorry about your grandparents, but that is exactly the reason I included the link about what has been going on in a Victoria old folks home. Things have not gotten better under 6 years of Campbell for the people needing care or the workers that provide that care, and I expect similar results if the ideologically similar SaskParty manages to win.

  26. For years the SaskaTory party said they would sell the crowns and take on the unions. That is a fact.

  27. From the experience of living 70 years in the province of Sask. and seeing what the CCF,NDP, and unions stand for and their supports,I have come to the conclusion that they all are bottom feeders. The worst kind of people that exist on this planet. They align themselves with the worst forms of govt in this world. They rely on the goodness of employers to up their standards rather than being an employer and raising others standards. There is no one over the age of 40 that should be working for others but they should be employing people. If I had my way it would be mandatory.Anyone over the age of 40 that is still working for govt or someone else should be ashamed of themselves.

  28. Work for others? I know some of the SaskaTory MLAs. Most of them inherited their farms and money from Dad or Mom. Most of us aren’t that lucky. Don’t give me this crap about selfreliant. Only spoiled brat farmers talk that way. Most who have no idea what hard work is. There are civil servants in every province. For years Alberta civil servants got higher raises all the time from the Tories even higher than Sask. They bought their civil service votes.

  29. The NDP are running scared. Pure and simple. Otherwise, they’d be proud of running on their record.

  30. Brian what happened to your heritage fund? Norway has 200 billion and a high standard of living. Alberta has blown billions. On what? WE here in Sask cannot afford another Tory gov’t. The last one broke us.We don’t have billions coming in and that’s a fact. Don’t think for a minute that we can afford to blow billions like Albeta. I wonder if any of your MLA’s personally benefitted from oil money? Think about it . Our Tories here were crooked and we didn’t have billons to blow.I think if someone dug deep into Albeta’s books you would find payoffs.

  31. Aargh. The NDP/Union hacks/apologists that pop up faithfully to spew the same crap, every four years are amazing. Hidden agendas, conspiracy, they’ll (anyone but the NDP) ruin the utopia that the NDP has built in Alabama north. Funny how they can’t grasp that the world has, and will continue to change. Leaving, as usual, Saskatchewan a poor cousin to almost every region of Canada.
Roads suck, taxes are stupid, certainly on property (the education portion), the province and its squadron of underlings and tentacles jumps into (and competes with private industry), with public money, any business venture that may be viable or potentially profitable,(open for business eh??), and reams of boards, management, departments suck out of a dimishing pool of “true taxpayers”. Great model, Stalin would be proud.
Dollars and good governance be damned. Its about pandering and playing/paying to the unions. Sad part is, many good people are delivering service each and every day, but their opinions and efforts are largely misrespresented and unappreciated by the NDP or the Union Hacks. Such a shame.
Things will change, probably just not in Saskatchewan. Lies, deciet theft, and a complicit mainstream media (dependant too, like mostof Saskatchewan) doesn’t bode well for disclosure or focus on NDP’s closet full of skeletons.
Fear, greed, envy. That is the reason to attack BC and Alberta. Pathetic, but to be expected from the entrenched beneficiaries of 50 years of heartache. Such promise, such a waste.

  32. Oops, Hit a nerve did we?? Don’t sweat it “ok”, you and your clan will get likely get what they deserve/desire.
Enjoy the present, and bend over, Lorne & crew are preparing to reward you! Not!!
Returnees are already leaving, the boom will bust, and only one source of new funds. You and the very limited number of net “tax payers”, should by some limited and off-chance you are one of them, versus drawers or calves at the teat, are it. Someone has to pay and without wealth creation and private enterprise, the script is written.
But hey, thats what commies do best. Lord knows they’re good at it, eh?? Big Brother know best after all!
Potential to be a part of the new era, but myopic policies, and desire for status quo, past glories, and years past continue.
    Such promise, such a waste.

  33. “If you can’t dazzle them with your itellect baffle them with your bullshit” Are you speaking in tongues?
