Y2Kyoto: In The Pay Of Big Socialsm

IBD;

George Soros is known for funding groups such as MoveOn.org that seek to manipulate public opinion. So why is the billionaire’s backing of what he believes in problematic? In a word: transparency.
How many people, for instance, know that James Hansen, a man billed as a lonely “NASA whistleblower” standing up to the mighty U.S. government, was really funded by Soros’ Open Society Institute , which gave him “legal and media advice”?
That’s right, Hansen was packaged for the media by Soros’ flagship “philanthropy,” by as much as $720,000, most likely under the OSI’s “politicization of science” program.
That may have meant that Hansen had media flacks help him get on the evening news to push his agenda and lawyers pressuring officials to let him spout his supposedly “censored” spiel for weeks in the name of advancing the global warming agenda.
Hansen even succeeded, with public pressure from his nightly news performances, in forcing NASA to change its media policies to his advantage. Had Hansen’s OSI-funding been known, the public might have viewed the whole production differently. The outcome could have been different.

We’ve mentioned Hansen in the past;

NASA scientist James E. Hansen, who has publicly criticized the Bush administration for dragging its feet on climate change and labeled skeptics of man-made global warming as distracting “court jesters,” appears in a 1971 Washington Post article that warns of an impending ice age within 50 years.

  1. Ice age within 50 years? Funny, but he may be actually right on this one.Hey George. Send me a million bucks, and I’ll say anything you want! Ain’t politics fun?

  2. New Ice Age coming eh?
Rona should be selling new igloo making kits.
    Lets see 1971 + 50 = 2021 – 2007 = 14 more years to massive ice sheets.
Snow shoes check, dog sled check, parka check, fox lined gloves for arctic expeditions check.
Kate, I hope you are breeding some sled dogs as we are getting close to the wire here.
    Cheers

  3. In regards to Hansen, he developed some computer code that the authors used to come to their conclusions. There is nothing to say that he was involved in the paper or agreed or disagreed with its conclusions.
    Regards,
    John

  4. John, have you had the thought that for that much money Mr. Hansen may have been tempted to jigger the code he wrote?
We have yet to see the un-edited source code, yes?

  5. He’s busted! The source code will turn out to be incidental in this whole AGW swindle story, because we know that all the data inputs are tainted garbage thanks to the work of independents like Steve McIntyre at climateaudit.org. Now Steve’s work is the real message that deserves to get out.

  6. Phantom: I find your implied assertion that Dr. Hansen’s has a time machine interesting. After all he wrote the code in 1971 and received the money in 2005 and 2006. Either that or he has been planning this for 35 years!
    Regards,
    John

  7. John; You are taking it for granted that Mr.Hansen was lilly white in 1971.I have found that one who takes bribes starts at an early age.

  8. Phantom: 😉
However I will save my gloating until the next time you get me and then we can gloat together!
    Regards,
    John

  9. “That means the public makes decisions about issues without understanding the special agendas of groups behind them.”
And that is why the public is so easily led by anyone to whom the MSM grants credibility.
I’ve rarely talked to anyone who is aware of the Paul Demerais/LPC connection, for example.Maurice Strong? Never heard of him.
It is SO ironic that the Libs scare the sheeple with the spectre of a “hidden agenda”, which has long been the forte of socialist leaning Parties.
Add Soros name to the expanding list of the “men behind the scene”. The internet has done a good job in exposing them. Thanks.

  10. George Soros is a genius world currency manipulator.
The “skinny” is that he is now betting against the U.S. dollar, according to Bill O’Reilly on the FOX news channel.

  11. Hansen has time to cooooook the data? How many lab techs work(sic) at NASA? Hansen is busier than a one armed paper hanger; busier than a one legged man in an aks kicking contest; busier than a two-p …-
When Does 1,400 Media Interviews = Muzzled?
March 20, 2007 in Climate Change, News
When you’re a NASA scientist who has repeatedly ignored policies you agreed to upon employment with said agency and you’d like to gain more headlines by claiming you’ve been muzzled.
The name James Hansen was splashed across headlines worldwide last month when he claimed to have been muzzled by the Bush administration. After being denied the opportunity to complete an interview with NPR (such limitations are apparently standard practice by NASA) Hansen claimed the Bush administration was attempting to silence his alarmist viewpoint. But upon questioning yesterday in Washington DC, it was revealed that the NASA employee had already completed over a thousand media interviews prior to the NPR request (emphasis mine throughout):
But Republicans told him the hundreds of other interviews he did belie his broad claim he was being silenced.
“We have over 1,400 opportunities that you’ve availed yourself to, and yet you call it, you know, being stifled,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican. …-

  12. Prior to this, those who believe that global warming is real have sought to discredit research that didn’t agree with them by pointing to the sources of funding. That was wrong.
Doing the same to Mr. Hansen because of the source of his funding is just as wrong. His claims are right or wrong, and should be assessed by the well-established methods of establishing scientific truth, as should those of scientists whose claims disagree with this.
His characterization of those who disagree with him as “court jesters” is another matter, of course.
The truth of a claim is independent of the wisdom or veracity of the one making that claim.
For the record, I think that claims of global warming are a complete crock, and I’m old enough to remember freezing my ass off in Chicago during the winter of 1976-1977, when scientists were projecting global cooling.

  13. We are in an interglacial period. My guess is that we are approaching the mid-point of that period. They have occured before. They WILL occur again.
Earth’s climate has been evolving for over four billion years. That evolution involves near constant change (i.e. “Climate Change”). That change involves both slow-and-subtle and rapid-and-catastrophic shifts (within a geologic timeframe).
The present AGW *train* is running at full speed on a single set of rails. That train keeps passing warning signs that say “Slow Down”, “Reduce Speed”, “End of Track Ahead”. Those on the AGW train are certain that those who posted the signs are wrong, corrupt, or are road agents trying to stop their train.
The likes of George Sorros are not building more track, but just shoveling more coal into the boiler on the train.
So, when the train runs off the end of the track, at full speed, those who survive the wreck will want to sue the sign makers, and also those who had failed to continue building the track. They will blame the sign makers for not being explicit enough with their warnings, and will blame the builders for failing to continue to build the track-to-nowhere.
Various identities, such as climateaudit.org, have been erecting warning signs along the AGW track. Those signs, for the most part, go unheeded. “This time it is different” are the shouts heard from the train as it races past.
Next time the train whizzes by look at the T-Shirts the drivers are wearing. They look just like the T-Shirts I once gave a few of the scientists and engineers that worked for me, and were pushing a project that was doomed to failure:
“Ya, but… this time is different!”.
Evidence continues to pile up that suggest that there is little difference between past history and the present situation. There will be another ice age. The advancing sheets of ice will bury the evidence of a spectacular train wreck.

  14. Joe,
Soros would be smart to bet against the US dollar. The fed has apparently decided bailing out billionaire hedge fund managers like soros and the investment bankers is more important than maintaining the value of the dollar.
Why else would they have dropped interest rates 50 beeps? The government doesn’t to be worried about it either or they wouldn’t be running such a deficit (government and actuarial as well as the twin trade deficits.)
America has to get its house in order. We all laugh at France. The US is not that different in its government mismanagement.

  15. Hansen, Soros, Gore, Suzuki, Maurice Strong, Dion, NASA, carbon credits, Environment Canada, United Nations — all pushing the biggest scam the world has ever seen. Some lawyer, somewhere must be contemplating the biggest lawsuit ever.

  16. Surely you don’t think Soros is a socialist? The man is a liberal, in every sense of that word. And if you think liberalism and socialism are the same thing you need to turn off your computer and do a little reading!

  17. exile,
he’s a free marketer for him and a socialist for everyone else.
There’s a lot of filthy rich people who want to keep their own wealth but deny anyone else from attaining it. Socialism has replaced feudalism for the elites as a way of repressing the rest of us while living large themselves.

  18. Got a point there, exile. I also think the ecos (the fanatic ones, that is) are more the liberal-latte, “intellectual crowd, not the worker, socialist types.

  19. Ron in Kelowna and Kate:
I am sure you both have much to teach Soros and the others you cite about creating wealth and the discipline of the private sector. Of course you have both created and built numerous enterprises and created millions (and billions) of wealth in the process, right?
No – wait. You don’t have to actually do or know how to so anything, so long as you say the right things, support the right party and the right ideology. Sorry, I forgot.

  20. Canadian_2,
Soros doesn’t create anything. There is no product. He’s a speculator who owns a hedge fund.
At the same time as his companies are run out of tax havens and he pays nothing in taxes, he has been the number one agitator for higher taxes for the working people (aside from Bono and Gore of course…) He’s a socialist who (like many) are silver-spoon hypocrites. They want YOU to pay high taxes – not them. They want YOU to make sacrifices for the greater good – not them. They want YOU to obey your betters – which they think is them.
They want to split the world into a system of governing elites and unwashed masses. It’s the world of 1984. It’s a modernized form of feudalism where the indentured servants are surfs of the state and the elite run the state.

  21. Thanks for that clarity Warwick.
Why on earth would anyone in their right mind even consider paying for ‘hot air’ via “carbon credits” to cool off the world or, a even futher stretch, to clean up the environment? Think about it!
Buying and selling ‘carbon credits’ was to be the tool that the ‘elitists’ used to bankrupt the taxpayers of the world. The environment was never an issue; the media and the big shots behind the scheme were apealing to the greed and envy, that lies in almost every human heart, to bring down those richer and more powerful than themselves.
The hyper ventilating media fools are weaving the webs for their own destruction! Of course they do not appreciate that they are ‘useful idiots’ but they are – see Stalin and his extermination program for his fellow Bolsheviks, different name, time and place…same game.
See dmorris comment above for the Puffin/Dipper ‘game plan(ners)’ in Canada.

  22. NASA’s Hansen Mentioned in Soros Foundations Annual Report
Here, in Soros Foundations’ annual report, is a direct connection to Hansen, along with an admission that “The campaign on Hansen’s behalf resulted in a decision by NASA to revisit its media policy.”
As is typical, a global warming obsessed media don’t find this newsworthy. Think they’d be so disinterested if this smoking gun involved an oil company giving money to a Republican official?
While you ponder, forward to page 143 (emphasis added):
note: The Strategic Opportunities Fund includes grants related to Hurricane Katrina ($1,652,841); media policy ($1,060,000); and politicization of science ($720,000).
Add it all up, and everything the IBD editorial claimed – that a high-ranking official at NASA may have received money from an organization funded by George Soros in order to politicize science — is actually available in this annual report.

  23. Oh no philanthropist George Soros is helping funding Hansen.
    Oh what shall we do?
Well it’s best that we listen to him, Hansen is neither selling oil nor is he taking money from the fossil fuel industry to discredit the science.
The difference is, Hansen is trying to bring the problem to the foreront where it belongs. Exxon and those in Exxon’s back pocket want to keep ignorant rednecks buying oil. Lots of oil.

  24. Hey exile, Libs and NDP not much difference. When Libs get upset about their leaders they vote NDP and Vice Versa. So what’s the difference between Liberals and Socialists. “The Leaders Charisma”… No substantive difference in policy or goals.
A NDP vote is the same as a Liberal vote…they stand for the same crap.
