    This link shows that variability of solar “constant” works out to 3 W/m**2 from 1979 to 1986. Coincidentally, the catastrophic predictions of AGW (from the quoted article by JE Hansen at climateaudit.org) were based on an increase in surface heating of the order of 2 W/m**2 with the heating increasing to 4 W/m**2 in 100 years if nothing was done about human CO2 production. I’d worry much more about changes in solar heating than I would about CO2 emissions.

    This is another link I found at climateaudit.org (which is turning out to be a rather dangerous web site based on how much time it’s cost me this evening). Oliver Manuel has a intriguing theory that the sun contains a neutron star at its center and that the bulk of solar energy production is as a result of neutron emission from the neutron star and minority from fusion. This is his solution to the problem of the missing solar neutrinos. Manuel is a nuclear chemist and seems to have authored quite a few peer reviewed publications which is why I spent a few hours perusing his site. Some fascinating material there if you have an interest in physics. With regard to the area of global warming, Manuel’s theory of the sun predicts it will be much more variable than one would expect based on the classic ball of hydrogen model. This has significant implications for the earth’s climate.
    Controlling the activity of the sun is not something we are yet capable of. The sun is contemptuously unresponsive to any legislation passed by politicians demanding that it keep the solar constant constant. As fairly significant climate changes appear to be the norm, it would be prudent to be ready to meet them and the optimal approach is to dramatically increase human energy production and industrial capacity. We could also send Al Gore and David Suzuki on a mission to reason with the sun in person as Gaia’s representatives.

    Nice to see you spotlight a blog from New Brunswick. Conservatives have NO voice in that province at all. It is a miracle we are able to elect 3 or 4 Conservatives out of 10 with nary a good word to be found. The Irving family(next richest after Thompson and Weston)until recently owned all the English media in the province(Rogers just started a radio station). And they just love the Liberals! Who do you think turned Freank McKenna into Superman? New Liberal Premier Sean Graham won’t recognize his new improved self once democracy’s N.B. defender gets through with him. The missus must be thrilled.
    But it’s really been tough on the various city councils. With Graham and his provincial Liberals walking on Irving water, and PM Harper’s good deeds being unmentionables, well it’s just unload on City Hall time. Funny to watch. Infuriating in its unfairness. Kinda like life.

Hey, if Tommy Douglas can get labelled a “eugenicist” around here because he wrote a paper about it in 1933 when he was a kid (even though he categorically and publicly rejected eugenicism in 1938 and never passed a law about it)… then surely it has to be fair game to mention that evangelical Christians/social conservatives William Aberhart, Ernest Manning and Harry Strom of the Social Credits not only supported and advocated for eugenics but actually passed eugenics legislation.
    Indeed, the evangelical conservative eugenics regime was not repealed until the Progressive Conservatives came to power under Peter Lougheed.
    So, yes, good for the Alberta for putting that dark history behind them and electing the Progressive Conservatives in 1971.

    My deepest hope is that enough Liberals take this as the big wake up call that it is and realize that you can’t win back government just by… wanting it. You have to, I don’t know, actually come out with a platform, policies, ideas and actually, I don’t know, try to connect to those ordinary everyday Canadians whose vote you want. Or at the very very least, pretend to care about ordinary everyday Canadians like Harper and Layton do. I mean, if career politician/pundits/policy wonks like Harper and Layton can fake it, surely Dion can too.

    If the CPC every won a majority (which I frankly think is as likely as the Liberals winning a minority; i.e. na ganna happen’), I suspect there will be more exploding heads around here as it suddenly dawns on the social conservatives that, in fact, Harper is not one of them, if it wasn’t perfectly obvious already.
    Some, like supporter and biographer William Johnson have called Harper the conservative Trudeau (in personality and long-term vision/plans), but I think we’ll see he’s more Diefenbaker: the fissures of the caucus are only thinly covered over for political power and expediency and will explode if they got a majority and Harper still refuses to implement any abortion legislation, or strengthen marriage laws, or ban equal marriage, or bring back the death penalty, etc. etc.

Manitoba ‘natives’ follow the lead in Caledonia..are setting up blockade on Hwy 304 near small mining community of Bissett (San Gold Mine),protesting a cottage development.From CJOB radio just now,the chief has refused to meet with Gov’t officials to even discuss this ‘problem.’Most interesting,was call from woman behind the ‘blockade’ stating she is NOT in favor of this,that the chief just wants more money.
    This mine,employs a large native contingent..they have bent over backwards to accomodate them,have huge absenteeism rate,demands for more money from totally incompetent(and dangerous)employees.There has been proof of drinking/drug use underground..which is really comforting for the spouses/families of the other miners,especially when dealing with explosives on daily basis.Unreal what the ‘natives’have been able to get away with…yet they keep taking them back.The influx of money has encouraged the bikers to increase supply of’nose-gold’ to reserve..”miners” showing up so drunk,they have been found passed out in cars on mine property,then cry ‘racism’when are sent home.As the spouse of an old hard-rock miner,I find this whole mess intolerable…and what will be the outcome?Most frightening,is some of these people have access to explosives,and just a matter of time before there will be a REAL tragedy.

    I don’t make any such mistake. I fully recognize that conservatives come in all shapes and sizes, and that the social conservatives are but one part.
    In fact, that was the very core point I was making when I mentioned fissures. Harper, while a decentralist and economic conservative and Quebec appeaser, is not a social conservative. Right now, he holds the social conservatives at bay because he has no power to a minority government to enact a social conservative agenda, and the Toews and Anders and Gallants give him a break because of political expediency. So I didn’t mean to suggest all your readers or conservatives are social religious conservatives; but many are and Aberhart and Manning and Strom most definitely are.
    Give Harper a majority though and how long are they going to stay content when Harper continues to ignore the social conservative agenda? I’m one liberal who has never believed there is a “Harper hidden agenda” and I suspect that many segments of Conservative supporters secretly hope there is.
    Like I said, then it will be a Diefenbaker-like caucus implosion all over again.
    (Oh, and you should know that not only do I not try to hide the fact that there are religious lefties, I highlight it and even advocate for more of it. More Canadians are religious in some form or other than not, and this is another way that the progressive elites have become disconnected from Canadians.)

Hey Texas..if it weren’t for the fact that my man could be ‘collateral damage’ I would have to agree with your sentiments.As a man with one of the best work ethic I have ever witnessed,he is so frustrated with the garbage he has to put up with trying to instill some kind of work-ethic in people that just don’t give a sh*t!The response when they are given a reprimand,is that they will just return to the reserve,and an $1800/mo welfare handout.My man has caught so-called ‘miners’stealing..and when let go,the letter in the mail few days later comes,accusing him of racism!He has been called ‘Whitey”..and other names.Why?Because he’s a “dirty,rich,white guy”This is a man that has had broken bones,seen friends killed underground,has worked 6 wks/10 hr days with no time off (back in the day before workplace regulations came into play)..has done contortions to try and train these ingrates..has had personal property stolen from the ‘dry’..and is at the point of giving up.There is a sense of honor amongst miners,and you just don’t steal from guys that have your back.
    I will say,there are a few stellar men,that have really grabbed this opportunity,and they are ashamed of their native ‘brothers’and the stereotype that they are just reinforcing.How many chances do you give someone?

    Which thus leads us to the question why Ted so strongly advocates for the left/Lib end of the political spectrum.
    The short answer is money. The LIEberals are having some difficulty paying off their friends and family, seeing the they don’t control the $227 billion dollar budget.
    The left/Libs are just having paroxysms because they lost control of Her Majesty’s Treasury!! After 13 years at the trough, they got thrown out on their keesters, and are uncomfortable that the recent by-election losses have confirmed voter sentiment that the public doesn’t want them back anytime soon.
    Too bad, so sad. But the LIEberals have been hoisted on their own petard in front of the Parliamentary gate.

    Bosnia: New video shows ‘mujahadeen atrocities ‘
    Bijeljina/Beograd, 18 Sept. (AKI) – A Bosnian TV station has broadcast part of an alleged new video apparently showing gruesome crimes perpetrated againt Bosnian Serbs by a unit of Muslim fighters during Bosnia’s 1992-1995 civil war.
    The footage, broadcast by BN TV apparently shows the ‘El Mujahadid’ unit “sharpening axes” which they later allegedly used to behead a Bosnian Serb soldier.
    The video also reportedly shows footage of the mujahadeen in playing football using a decapitated head instead of a ball, Serbian news agency Tanjug reported.
    It contains chilling scenes showing mutilated corpses mujahadeen tying up and abuse prisoners of war. A mujahadeen is heard saying: “They call us terrorists. We are terrorists and we will destroy all the enemies of Allah.”

    Norwegian police have discovered that a large number of Pakistani taxi drivers, many of whom have already been charged with tax evasion in one of the worst cases of welfare fraud in the nation’s history, have close contact with Pakistani gangs and operate as couriers of arms and drugs. In the city of Oslo it is documented that criminal Pakistani gangs also have close ties to Jihadist groups at home and abroad. Kristin Halvorsen, the leader of the Socialist Left Party, began her election campaign in 2005 in the Pakistani countryside, praising all the “blood, sweat and tears Pakistanis in Norway have spent on building the country.” She is now Norway’s Minister of Finance.
    The editor of a Norway’s Multicultural newspaper has suggested that the Norwegian national anthem should be translated to Urdu because this would be good for integration. Norwegians are supposed to celebrate their independence by singing their national anthem in Urdu, by wearing the national costume of Ghana and by waving the flag of the UN, an organization that is actively trying to curtail their freedoms and subvert their independence. This would be the equivalent of Americans celebrating the Fourth of July by waving the UN flag and by singing the Star-Spangled Banner in Arabic.
    Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre from the Labour Party participated in a conference with participants from dozens of countries and media outlets on how to “report diversity” in a non-offensive manner, with Arab News from Saudi Arabia as a moderator. The Cartoon Jihad the year before had prompted Indonesia and Norway to join forces and promote a Global Inter-Media Dialogue. In June 2007 this was held in Oslo.
    The UN Special Envoy for monitoring of racism and xenophobia, Doudou Diène, started the conference by asking the press to actively help to create a Multicultural society. He expressed concern that democratic processes can lead to immigration-limiting political parties coming to power. He claimed that it marked a dangerous trend that still more intellectuals and academicians in the western world thinks that some cultures or religions are better than others, and stated that “The media must transform diversity, which is a fact of life, into pluralism, which is a set of values.” Getting diversity accepted is the role of the education system, and acceptance is the role of the law, Doudou Diène said. “Promoting and defending diversity is the task of the media.” Societies must recognize, accept and then defend and promote diversity, which always seems to mean sharia. Mr. Diène represents Senegal, a predominantly Muslim country which is a member of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the largest voting bloc at the United Nations.

    There you go. The solution is to get rid of democracy of course.
    One Muslim in Norway stated that: “I worked in a Pakistani shop, but all of the work there is ‘unofficial.’ Neither the boss nor I pay taxes to Norwegian authorities. In addition to this, I receive 100% disability benefits and welfare. I have to be cunning to make as much money as possible, since this is my only objective with being in Norway.”
    Same as Canada. Immigration is costing us $5 billion a year.
    Undoubtedly, many Muslims view welfare money from the infidels as Jizya, the poll-tax non-Muslims according to the Koran are supposed to pay to Muslims as tribute and a sign of their inferior status and submission to Islamic rule. According to Statistics Norway, immigrants generally have a three times higher unemployment rate than native Norwegians. It should be noted that non-Muslim Asians are much more successful, which means that the unemployment rate among Muslims is even higher than 300 % that of the natives. The number of Muslims in Norway has quadrupled over the past 15 years. The number of immigrants in Oslo increased by 40 percent in just five years, from 2002 to 2007. With current trends remaining unchanged, native Norwegians will be a minority in their own country within a few decades.
    The number of rapes in the Norwegian capital is six times as high per capita as in New York City, and it is well documented that certain immigrant groups are grossly overrepresented on the statistics. Two out of three charged with rape in Norway’s capital are immigrants with a non-western background according to a police study. Unni Wikan, a professor of social anthropology at the University of Oslo, has said that
    “Norwegian women must take their share of responsibility for these rapes” because Muslim men found their manner of dress provocative.
    Yes, of course, how insightful, it’s the white women’s fault for getting raped. The next step is to stone them.
    The professor’s conclusion was not that Muslim men living in the West needed to adjust to Western norms, but the exact opposite: “Norwegian women must realize that we live in a Multicultural society and adapt themselves to it.” The number of rapes has continued to rise year by year, as it has in neighboring Sweden, but according to Trond Giske, Minister of Culture and Church Affairs from the Labour Party, 2008 will be an official Diversity Year (which it also will be throughout the EU), dedicated to celebrating Multiculturalism and “cultural diversity” in all sectors of society, so hopefully this will change.
