Saw an interesting item about this on Global last night. They said Europe has banned “low budget” Asian airlines from their airports, citing maintenance and pilot training as below international standards.

Solar power is not too reliable in stormy weather…it usually is a backup or supplimented system…did this airport not have AC UPS?

That’s a pretty broad generalization. “One-Two-Go”, an econo airline, may or may not have cut some corners but, Thai Airlines International is a really great carrier, consistently rated as one of the world’s best.
I see the problem as being the solar powered system without a main grid or generator backed up.

Being asked to remove my shirt in front of a line-up of people at the Minneapolis airport some years ago (I have an implanted cardiac pacer and am supposed to avoid the metal detectors) pretty much killed any desire I have to fly to state side.
I got into a row with the security officer by saying that while I was not refusing to comply with her request to remove my shirt should they find me a private area, I was refusing to do it in front of a lineup of people and I would simply miss my flight if I had to.
No offense to the American visitors here, but your government has guaranteed that I’ll never fly into your country to spend my tourist dollars ever again.

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that 3.8 million international visitors traveled to the United States in June 2007, an increase of 12 percent over June 2006. Total visitation for the first six months of 2007 was up over eight percent from the same period in 2006. International visitors also spent over $10.0 billion during the month, up 14 percent from June 2006 and $58.0 billion year-to-date, up 10 percent from the first six months in 2006.
Canadian visitation grew nine percent over June 2006 with air arrivals up five percent and land arrivals up 10 percent. Year-to-date arrivals were up five percent.

YG, ATC has nothing to do with airport security, and controllers are generally excellent at their job. I wish they could fill all the vacancies so then I could fly in YVR airspace on summer afternoons and weekends, when it is often restricted due to staff shortage.
I’d still bet that the eco-friendly wind shear alert systems are more reliable than those eco-friendly medical power systems in Africa we all witnessed in The Great Global Warming Swindle…
That;s the problem with solar powered anything. When you need it most,during storms,etc,the dang Sun just ain’t out to power it! Wind shear during a torrential downpour with thunderstorm! Who would of thunk it? Maybe they need a lightning powered system?
Randall, expect those shortages to continue for another 10 years or so.
