Who Are You People And What Have You Done With My Premier?

Sept 5 …

The province announced Wednesday that it has sold its 50 per cent interest in NewGrade Energy Inc., a Crown asset in Regina.
[…]
The upgrader, which processes heavy crude oil into synthetic crude oil, has 162 employees. Half the company is owned by Consumers‘ Co-operative Refineries Ltd.
The buyer of the province‘s share likely won‘t be identified until the fall for regulatory reasons.

$320 million of the proceeds are going to create a new “Green Futures Fund”, And because there are never too many places* to park your political cronies

In addition to founding the Green Future Fund, the Government will immediately begin the process of establishing a Climate Change Secretariat, staffed by climate change experts. The Secretariat will be placed within CIC to co-ordinate and oversee Government’s climate change agenda in the Crowns and Executive Government.

The NDP has signed Saskatchewan to a commitment to “stabilize” the province’s C02 emmissions by 2010 and reduce them by 32% by the year 2020.
That could happen.
Right after John Deere rolls out a nuclear-powered 9030 Series.

  1. Way, way too many Thacyks in the public service in communications positions.
Anyways, it wouldn’t surprise me if this is all an interlude to SaskPower announcing, just prior to an election call, a majorly overpriced, and extremely technically risky, ‘clean coal’ power plant.
Mark my words, Calvert & Co. will abuse SaskPower ratepayers for their projects like ‘clean coal’ that reek of absolute lunacy.

  2. JD 9030… I like the one with the tracks. ~:D
Kate, did you know Case makes a combine with tracks? Its humongous. Thing looks like a Bolo.
Better a wolf than a sheep. Go Sask Party!

  3. Privatization of crowns is bad, as long as NDP does not need pocket money. When it needs change, privatization of crowns is good. Even if it’s against their principles (see Regina manifesto).

  4. Funny you should mention nuclear,Kate. The cleanest stuff going as far as CO2 is concerned, not too mention all that other fun stuff from coal,oil/gas.If we had been building and using nuclear for the last 30 years,we would have met the Kyoto Kults goals long ago.But then what would the greenies have to bitch about and get their grant money? Sigh. Guess we just meddle through.

  5. This is a slippery slope we’re on. The first hint of NDP hidden agenda. This could continue until all the Crown Corps are sold off and we are all at the mercy of dirty capitalists. The end of Saskatchewan as we know it. . They probably are secretly plotting the demise of the CWB too. . And what about health care??????????????

  6. ‘The NDP has signed Saskatchewan to a commitment to “stabilize” the province’s C02 emmissions by 2010 and reduce them by 32% by the year 2020.’
Awesome, so they are predicting a drop of 32% population-wise? Idiots.

  7. When I first saw the Lamb Chop ad, I thought, “Wow, the NDP now want the crown corps privatized.” I now look forward to seeing private liquor stores. Yay!

  8. Couldn’t we use that money to, oh I don’t know, pay off some debt, fix a few roads? Somebody will benefit, but it won’t be the Sask taxpayer…..

  9. Hey Aaron… nope just SDAP for Saskatchewan Democratic Action Party. We forgo the N for “New” there unlike the “New” Democratic Party.

  10. Krydor … not really. If your concerned about similarities the SDAP recommends the following to sooth your mind:
SDAP : Structural Database of Allergenic Proteins
SDAP : Special Duty Assignment Pay – Military Benefits
SDAP : Skoeter Digital Art Pages
SDAP : San Diego Airport Parking
SDAP : Scottish Diet Action Plan
Hopefully these kind thoughts will move you away from any harmful thoughts you may harbor.

  11. Kate,
Are you thinking what I’m thinking? The actual “Green Strategy” is simply them waiting for old people to die and hoping everyone moves away?

  12. “The NDP has signed Saskatchewan to a commitment to “stabilize” the province’s C02 emmissions by 2010 and reduce them by 32% by the year 2020.”
Yeah – Good plan leftards. Anyone see the story out of California yesterday? The makers of Wonder bread are packing up and leaving the state because they cannot meet Arnold’s emission standards. Probably the first of many companies to flee the state.

  13. Wow. A great move by “his government”. Sell an asset returning 20% per annum, an asset that is in extremely short supply in North America (refining), do it without soliciting proposals or bids, keep the buyer concealed, “regulatory reasons of course”, and try and pitch it as required for “Green” initiatives.
Well as far as the Green plan, there isn’t one. The plan apparently will be developed by the esteemed “appointees/hacks” who will of course burn up a whole bunch of the cash to develop the plan, to be unveiled at some future time of course. Clean coal technology is being sidelined with preference to nuclear the world over. It simply is not cost efficient and sustainable. But of course, SaskPower can be granted a rate increase, the Green plan will fund and “study” clean coal options, and in the end, SaskPower will continue to purchase power from Alta and Manitoba. Until they have no surplus, and then what??
Keeping with the trust issue, I’m sure, given the NDP’s penchant for transparency and honestly, that the mystery purchaser, will in no way kick in the back door, a big bag of cash to be used in the coming election.
Roads suck, debt high, health underfunded on the capital side for years, and schools falling in (rural areas only of course). The NDP answer is to ditch performing assets and build a net zero and cash consuming agency (future home to many of the party faithful you can be sure). That sucking sound is money going, going, ……………gone!!
Have a viewing next time through, Crown agencies (SaskTel, SaskEnergy, TransGas, Dept of Highways) all with nice new equipment and trucks, think there’s a purpose?? Hidden agenda??
Such promise, such a corrupt and incompetent administration, will it ever change??

  14. “Yeah – Good plan leftards. Anyone see the story out of California yesterday? The makers of Wonder bread are packing up and leaving the state because they cannot meet Arnold’s emission standards. Probably the first of many companies to flee the state.”
But didn’t you know? Companies are icky, and too Albertan/American/evil for the NDP’s tastes! Who cares about whether a bunch of them leave and drive the economy further down? Good riddance! Saskatchewan will no longer have to live under the evil tyranny of Wonder Bread or any other company that happens to set up shop there! Saskatchewan will be a greener community as result…
Because no one will live there.

  15. krydor, just because the NSDAP had ONE leader who was a bit over the top, there’s no reason to continue to slander that relatively moderate organization.
That was a long time ago, you know, and no one cares about history any more.
btw, I posted about this to SDAP a week ago.

  16. the national socialist party?
can anyone explain to me why the media always portrays the party of control , war , genocide and confiscation with a name like the national socialist germans workers party as right wing?

  17. SCREW THE GREENS im getting tired of all this GO GREEN popycock bull kaka WHY DONT WE JUST RECYCLE ALL THE GREENS

  18. my point exactly Fred.
Nazi’s were socialists, not right wing. the media and the left always always always say, right wing nazi’s …. part of the constant MSM misinformation barrage.
I would like Peter Mansbridge to say that one night. or Taliban Jack Layton to say – I have more in common with Adoph Hitler than Tommy Douglas ( oops – they were similar too)

  19. Sorry, Hitler was technically a fascist, not socialist. He believed in top down central control but with private ownership of factors of production. That’s a big but, though; if we think in left right ideological terms (I agree not that useful nowadays), it goes like this, from left to right:
anarchy (some argue not really part)
    communism
    socialism
    liberalism
    conservatism
    fascism
Of course, many variants in between this and that.
Just because Hitler authoritarian and control freak, does not make him a socialist. The socialism of USSR and China, for instance, have non-existent or severely limited private ownership of factors of production.
Like socialists, though, Hitler was a utopian, pining for some endstate where Arians emerged as the master race, an attitude also closely linked with nationalism and fascism.

  20. “The province is committed to stabilizing greenhouse gas emissions by 2010. By 2020, emissions will be 32 per cent lower than current levels, a reduction of 22 tonnes per capita [will be?]. The 2050 target is to reduce emissions by 80 per cent from current levels, a reduction of 55 tonnes per capita.”
Er, yeah. Voltaire on Rousseau’s “Discourse On The Origin Of Inequality:”
“After reading your book one feels that one ought to walk on all fours. Unfortunately during the last sixty years I have lost the habit.”
He couldn’t have known it, but today’s lingering heirs of romanticism in the environmental movement wouldn’t consider that bit about going back to walking on all fours in insult. Or climbing back into the trees, for that matter, which is probably the only way you could to that 80% reduction of emissions by 2050 target.

  21. 80% reductions , its socialist yabber.
promise 100 % by next year and then blame industry.
    NDP brochure for 2050 election.
    Saskatechawan 2050 – a sodders paradise.

  22. Pantom said: “Would that be soylent Greens, Spurwing? Sorry, couldn’t resist. :)”
LOL 😀 good one Phnatom…I’ll use that one from now on…so true of Green swatika ideologoes…their eugenics and depopulation ideals…soylen green….could serve as the founding dogma for green depopulation ethics.

  23. I trust the funds to be spent on this Adventure fund will be supplented by the profits made by Al Gores Envio Visit to Regina, sponsored by Sask Energy or Sask Power (Who ever).

  24. Man, I feel for you my Canadian Comrades, it’s better to live down here in America where we have the best Politicians money can buy,,,;-)

  25. Folks Can you imagine what the outcry would have been had the SP or the Libs done the same thing. The NDP sycophants would have wanted their heads

  26. “sold its 50 per cent”
A good start to getting gov’t away from all sectors of business. Now, only 120 crowns or so to go.
    Cheers,
    lance

  27. In protest against Kate’s Blogging Tory comrades actively campaigning to re-elect Dalton McGuinty’s Liberal government I hereby offer my unqualified support for Lorne Calvert and the New Democratic Party of Saskatchewan in their upcoming election.
    GOOOOOOOOOO NDP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Lorne’s taking a page from Alberta, dump the crown involvement in corps(e).
Anyone notice how HUSKY managed to turn the Lloydminster upgrader into a profitable venture, AFTER the gov’s bailed out? (after spending billion$$)
    capitalism is funny Ha-Ha

  29. Why don’t the hypocritical Dippers simply change their name to the Liberal Party, they appear to be about as devoid of crediblility as the Libranos?

  30. Sorry, Hitler was technically a fascist, not socialist.
Fascism and socialism are just different branches of the commune.
He believed in top down central control but with private ownership of factors of production.
If “ownership” means the right to determine the use and disposal of material goods, then Nazism endowed the state with every real prerogative of ownership. What the individual retained was merely a formal deed, a content-less deed, which conferred no rights on its holder. Under communism, there is collective ownership of property DEJURE. Under Nazism, there is the same collective ownership DE FACTO.
THE OMINOUS PARALLELS, by Leonard Peikoff

  31. Ol Hoss, the fact of the matter is that Hitler was a fascist, and fascism is on the far right of the political spectrum, which is used to define left and right wing.
Not saying this is particularly useful, but inaccurate to call Hitler socialist. On the other hand, it is wrong to call Mao Zedung a communist – he was a socialist.

  32. While the traditional political spectrum is:
‘anarchy (some argue not really part)
    communism
    socialism
    liberalism
    conservatism
    fascism’
the reason that it is so is an attempt by the left to export one variant of statism to the right, simply so that they won’t have all the villains on their side of the ledger. This also allows ‘moderate’ statists to claim ‘the centre’, as if this makes their positions all the more admirably balanced.
Any system of government that arbitrarily cancels ownership of property, freedom of movement, speech, assembly or worship for the benefit of that government IS statist, to the precise degree of control applied. Is there a fundamental difference between Stalin’s dead Ukranian peasants and political enemies and Hitler’s dead Jews, gypsies and homosexuals? Gulags are opposite to death camps? When you are faced with millions of corpses, can why they died be a more important matter than the fact of their death? If the end results of different styles of tyranny are the same, regardless of the excuses used to justify them, then how can they be considered opposites?
A more useful political spectrum, reading from left to right, Statism to Individual Freedom, would be:
Communism, Fascism, Socialism, Socialism Lite, Semi-Capitalism, Capitalism, Anarchy.
I have had to stick in two made-up-on-the-spot terms to try and cover the West’s current styles of government, because whatever else we are, pure capitalism is not it. And there is a far right on this spectrum for the left to loathe too – for that matter, everyone should loathe it. Anarchy is no place for anyone to live.
I think mankind would be better served under capitalism – but what restrictions on humanity are needed to stay away from anarchy is a subject for a book, not all of Kate’s bandwidth.

  33. Ol Hoss, the fact of the matter is that Hitler was a fascist, and fascism is on the far right of the political spectrum, which is used to define left and right wing.
Opinions and facts aren’t the same thing. As T. Robert Wolfram points out, the end results are the same. If it walks like a duck….

  34. Um, I hate to sound like I’m out of the loop here, but why are we, in a post about the Saskatchewan election, talking about whether Hitler was a leftie or a rightie? Where’s the focus here?

  35. ol hoss:
Wonder who it was who named it the National Socialist Party?
Must have been part of that vast right-wing conspiracy.

  36. The Saskatchewan Democratic Action Party’s planned tax cuts are far larger than the SaskParty’s small offerings any day. Not only that, the SDAP‘s sound economic programs will not produce massive debt like the SaskParty’s plans will.
