In order to make even the most mundane of everyday decisions it is necessary to have good information. The public depends on television, radio and print media to deliver reliable and accurate information. For the most part, reporters and editors do their jobs and the result is an informed public. In some instances, however, the information relayed to the public is neither reliable nor accurate. Far too often, inaccurate information is reported and repeated until it achieves a certain myth status. The goal of this site is to debunk myths that take hold as a result of inaccurate or irresponsible media reports.
I am happy to have been a (very) small part this brainchild of Kim Priestap and Lorie Byrd. Lorie explains;
This new wiki website was created to provide a place for approved contributors to archive facts and links to chronicle major media’s treatment of stories in which questions have arisen regarding facts or methods of reporting. Because the site is a wiki, it will always be a work in progress. Some of the listed entries consist of just a framework awaiting content to come, while others are already quite extensive. We have provided a format and some intitial posted items to serve as the beginning of a site I hope will grow considerably into a valuable resource.

“The Associated Press named police Capt. Jamil Hussein as a source for more than 60 stories that reported Shiite-Sunni violence in Iraq, including the Burning Six incident. Efforts to verify Hussein’s identity went on for several months, with his existence being in question part of that time. Eventually it was discovered that Jamil Hussein was a pseudonym and many of the events cited in the stories he sourced have now been disproved or called into question.”
Now here’s the truth omitted at MM, from no less than Michelle Malkin:
“As I noted on the 4th, the AP reported that the Ministry of Interior in Iraq has now said a Captain Jamil Hussein does work in the al Khadra police station. I regret the error.”

It’s time has come. Aggregating the follies, lies, fiction and omissions of the MSM could suck up most of NA’s bandwith, but, it’s worth it. Organizing it all is the challenge.

All compilations of information are subject to mischief or abuse…… it’s a heavy responsibility and a lot of work to keep data pure and up to date!
At least if those are the goals from the outset we have already improved by an order of magnitude over the MSM!

A mediawatch-type program used to run on Australian television years ago. It was great fun to watch and showed how pathetically skewed, inept, and inaccurate was much of the MSM reporting. Alas, in North America, the MSM will be the last place such a program will air.
Like most of the lieberal and dipper trolls Andrew doesn’t read the Post, doesn’t read the article he quotes, extracts a later rebutted statement and uses it to prove his point. The point we got Andrew is that you have low reading comprehension skills. Too bad you didn’t follow through and read the rest of the Media Myths article where it was later pointed out that the AP was wrong on that report too!!!
You also completely missed the point that no matter if Capt Jamil Hussein existed or not, the events he “cited in the stories he sourced have now been disproved or called into question.” The funny thing was you even quoted that section but failed to read it, or comprehend it making your later claim that AP stated he existed a nugatory statement.
So your claim that a person, who is known to have lied about many of the events he cited, actually exists is supposed dispprove the Media Myth section in some way is completely whacked but expected from you. I also note the AP did not say he was their source, just that a person of that name exists, in fact that Capt Hussien denied being their source, especially after the events were shown not to have occured. I would think the spread of inflamitory mis-information, while expected of the Libs and Dips, would have resulted in a battlefield execution of the poor Capt in IRAQ on a count of Treason…. hmmmmm that idea is kind of intriquing isn’t it….

snopes is quite nice, but it doesn’t keep a running tab on organizations/individuals that are “repeat offenders” (so to speak). Dave and Barb’s site is also geared towards rumours/urban legends, not the mainstream media.
