A sensible point of view when you live in the frigid north. It’s just surprising to see it at the CBC:
in this country, with its maybe 12 climate zones, there are real advantages that come with warming in some places.
But if advantages do exist, they are generally reported by being bracketed in with evil otherness. For example, while there was mention of warmer weather increasing tourism in some parts of the country, we were warned by the Globe and Mail that, “by 2050, snowmobiling could be history in Eastern Canada.” There was exactly zero — let me underscore and bold face — zero mention of winter-related deaths and injuries.

But wouldn’t the Suzuki Nation like snowmobiles BANNED? They also want us to drive less with dinky toy cars but cry when the price of gas goes up.
This enviro-religion is confusing me!
AL GORE blabbers about this global warming poppycock but still manages to keep his big fat piehole flapping as with most of these eco-wackos
We could save hundreds of thousands of dollars on needing warming shelters for the homeless.
How many die of cold exposure every year?
However, we may have to wait a long long time as the temperature globally has only gone up by .7 degrees F in the past 100 years. One good volcano eruption like Mt. St. Helen’s would wipe out that progress.
Gore’s little science fiction money making scheme bases the scenarios on PLUS 5 degrees!
And the United Nations panel is saying that by 2030 we COULD go up to PLUS 2 degrees (from what baseline – 1900?).
AND now the UN greed and fear mongers tell us that anything UNDER 2 degrees would be okay for the most part. The equator would feel the increased heat more because , get this, the equator is CLOSER TO THE SUN!!!!
Gah.
Here is a link to the Natural Resources Stewardship Project’s news release on the UN’s latest politically motivated opne world government wealth transfer and I’ll take my cut in the middle “report”.
http://littleoldlady.btblogs.ca/
I wonder if, in lucid moments, Al ever realizes that he’s gone far beyond the money making scam they originally intended, and has instead created a new religion for the “secular”, replacing all others.
This movement will not die easily,it is not a passing fad. GW/CC, has become the belief missing in the baby boomers lives. They are now “fulfilled” by their “love” for “Mother Earth”. Sigh.
I’m sure Al is laughing all the way to the bank, and rubbing his hands with glee at how easy it was to dupe so many.
Indian Chiefs Oppose Human Rights for Natives
http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2007/05/indian-chiefs-oppose-human-rights-for.html
OOps! Sorry- that was meant for the ‘reader tips’ thread! My bad!
If global warming does take place there are only benefits for Canada, there really isn’t a ‘down side’ at all. Canadians can do nothing to stop global warming, turning off the heat and living in the dark would be an entirely irrelevant exercise. Arrogant humans today think we can control everything – and they want to start by controlling their neighbours, screw them.
There goes double-dog daring other kids to stick their tongues on metal poles in the middle of winter.
The Indians in these parts used to pray to the wind gods, the Vikings used to pray to Thor and Valhalla I think, the Greeks had Apollo and a few other dudes that were bigger than a wrestler, my my hav’nt we come far. Kind of hard to believe in all this crap when you read a bit of history like Greenland being called Greenland for the reason the Vikings grew ceral crops there. Evolution has seriously bypassed liberals and eco-wackos, I just wish they would all take the Tooker Gomberg challenge to save the planet that by the way Elizabeth May you moron, is 5 billion years old and not going anywhere. Lay off the James Bond movies and Heros show for a while.
Ms.May from the Green Party was on John Oakley
and only muddied her stance by claiming she only repeted comments from Al Gore and others , she then went on to deny pollution as a problem and it’s the GHG’s we have to worry about.
Pretty sad for a adult that has been on Earth for so long and yet is so stupid , she dismissed all the Scientists that didn’t agree with her view as a fringe eliment to be ignored.
Basically Global Warming is the new Religion
and Earth is the God to worship with money and unemployment which is better than wram weather and more deaths.
So nice to see how these tolerant open people can listen to all the evidence , or lack of evidence.
Actually…. Greenland was named by Eric the Red, a Norseman, who named it Greenland in order to make it seem attractive to potential settlers.
It was a SCAM!
I guess snowmobiles would be more endangered than polar bears ( who have oddly adapted already to making dens on dry land without interspecies instruction from Suzuki).
I’d miss the idiots racing up and down the river in front of my home at all hours of a winter night.
Yeah, save the snowmobiles!
it was a great scam , they grew barley and raised cattle and sheep. I guess they didnt realize it was a scam for several centuries.
http://www2.sunysuffolk.edu/mandias/lia/vikings_during_mwp.html
Don’t worry about tourism increasing in some areas. If the Suzuki followers get their way, no one will be able to afford the gas to get anywhere else. The sad part is that gas will rise in price, regardless of any so-called global warming because we all want to pay more taxes to fight climate change. I’m sure I read that Suzuki has made that statement….Im so grateful he speaks for me.
I haven’t seen as much B.S. as this since I left the farm.
Banning snowmobiles and ATV’s would be first on my list anyway.
Can’t wait to get rid of them.
So long as you guys ignore things like the Pine Beetle, which would have been wiped out in the colder winters we use to get, the melting permafrost threatening communities and highways, and the drought now threatening the prairies, yeah… things’ll be peachy.
John- re: the Pine Beetle – an expert at committee recently said that they were warning about the pine beetle 30 years ago (about when we were being told there was a new ice age coming).
The reason for the infestation is that forest fires have been too well controlled and the natural cycle of old growth burning and new growth starting was severely interrupted.
In fact, he said our forests are suffering in many other ways from too much old growth, which the pine beetle thrives on.
Oh, and Greenland – they used to grow GRAPES THERE. Hundreds of years ago. Go figure.
Well said John. Since it benefits some industries, obviously radical environmental change is a GOOD THING (TM).
“Global Warming not so Scary”
Well of course not…but you have to have lived through more than 20 summers and winters to have a personal grounding perspective on the weather.
“Life is a Banquet yet the naive and silly are starving to death.”
Gratuitous drive by:
Yeah, the CBC lets Stephen Strauss write an editorial for their not-too-heavily-trafficked website, where it’s condescendingly labeled “science friction” in order to take the sting out for their core audience, but meanwhile they let Dave “Beaker” Gorezuki sputter for an hour on TV every week and their reporters carry on like a whole henhouse of Chicken Littles on all their news broadcasts day in and day out. Not that anybody but a few shut ins are watching or listening to any of those either, I suppose. Great example of journalistic balance, though, and well worth its annual subsidy.
Snowmobiles generate greenhouse gases. They frighten the animals.
What can the CBC be thinking?
“the drought now threatening the prairies,” Snowing outside now. Thirty-three millimeters of rain yesterday, April was the wettest we’ve seen around here in a while. February was bitterly cold. Somebody call the goracle and put in an order for a bit of global warming for this part of the country. Somebody get john and Saskboy a 2×4 so they can remove their heads from that dark warm place they seem to have stuck their heads in.
From the weather network:
2007 Spring OutlookFor immediate release
A Slow Warm Up to Spring for Most of the Country
Oakville, ON, March 1, 2007. Winter began with mild conditions, but transitioned to near or below seasonal values by mid winter. Below normal temperatures will continue to dominate the country for the spring. Canadians hoping for warmer temperatures in early spring will have to wait a while longer.
The latest reports are indicating a cooling trend of the equatorial sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. If the cooling trend continues, it will lead to a weakening of the current El Nino. As a result of the weakening El Nino, there will be an increase in westerly and northwesterly low level winds across Canada. These winds will allow cold arctic air to penetrate into southern parts of the country, which will keep temperatures at or below normal for the next several months.
Following is a look at what Canadians can expect this spring:
Much of British Columbia can expect near normal precipitation this spring with the exception of northern coastal regions where wetter than normal conditions will dominate. Temperatures are expected to be near normal for northern and southern regions of the province with central portions of the province experiencing below normal temperatures.
Near normal precipitation will dominate the Prairie provinces, however, Northern Manitoba can expect below normal precipitation while southern areas of the province can expect above normal precipitation.
How many times do you guys have to be “surprised” to see something on the CBC (Crazy Eights, favourable coverage of the military, a cartoon unflattering to the Liberals, the woman who writes this blog, for Pete’s sake) before you realize that the CBC isn’t the biased news source you believe it to be?
john
That thing you wrote about the CBC was a joke….. right????? I mean you’re smart enough to run a computer…it seems you can write in complete English sentences…I am convinced by the spelling your IQ is higher than room temperature. CBC not biased hahahahahahahahaha good one john.
I’m quite serious. I’ve seen many conservative blogs lately writing favourably about things they see on CBC and every time, they write “would you believe” or “surprising to see” or “shocking” or “un-CBC.”
So, I ask. How many times will conservative bloggers need to see something they like on CBC before they change their minds?
When the CBC starts to label the Liberals as thieves , crooks, swindlers, and terrorist supporters. When the CBC labels the Taliban as a bunch of barbaric savages, when they stop apologizing for every tinpot murdering dictator in this world, when they label the bloc as phony hypocrites, when they denounce Hezbollah and all their supporters. When they start calling evil evil and not insurgents or resistance or whatever flavor of the day lefty apologists make. When they start to demonstrate that they know the difference between right and wrong.
Aah, so when the CBC is completely biased the other way, you mean.
I figured as much.
John,
Being the good troll that you are, please provide the locations currently experiencing drought on this continent.
Being a farmer myself, there is a great worry across large areas of the prairies as to when we will get the crop in the ground. Many have nothing in yet.
The devastation of BCs forests by pine beetles has been a well known problem since the 1970’s. The Ministry has had little success controlling it in all that time. IMHO, there is no way the government can properly manage the immense tracts of forest they are responsible for. A private land owner would have moved quickly to log and replant to protect their assets. And they would have been paying property taxes too. Global warmening is a very convenient excuse now and the BC Forest Ministry and the socialists will very likely ‘milk it dry’. Personally, I would like to see the trees logged and turned into pellets for wood stoves ASAP as those trees are going to burn one way or the other and the fires from this damaged wood should at least be harnessed for heating homes.
Here you go: http://www.fs.fed.us/land/wfas/kbdi.gif
I don’t see your point.
When they fire Ian Macdonald and apologize for not doing so earlier.
Surely, you mean Neil MacDonald.
Ian MacDonald writes for the Gazette.
john When the CBC begins to treat all points of view as equal everyone will admit that it is unbiased. When it shows a few items that reflect a conservative point of view but most of its items reflect a socialist point of view it does not mean that its coverage is unbiased. Years ago I listened to BBC world report on shortwave and was shocked at the degree the reporters would go to to make sure both sides of the story were told. Too bad the same can not be said of the modern BBC or for that matter CBC.
Treating all points of view as equal is its own form of bias: false balance.
John I call bullshit. Evil is evil and is not a matter of semantics.
On CBC radio in the southern Okanagan this moring I heard something about switching vehicles to natural gas would reduce greenhouse gases by 20%. Since I doubted this I checked it out. It seems that while CO2 is reduced by 23% H2O is increased by 66%. How is it possible that the Great CBC ignores H2O as a greenhouse gas?
Then on CBC National they talked about global warming having a “tipping point”. I always thought that when something tips it falls down. How foolish of me…not!
The amount of water vapor in the atmosphere, contributing as a greenhouse gas, is something humans can’t control. It’s a factor of the air tempature, relative humidity, etc. Plus, the water cycle regularly converts water vapor back to liquid.
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) IPCC Third Assessment Report chapter lead author Michael Mann: “It is extremely misleading, however, when scientists cite the role of water vapor as a greenhouse gas. The concentration of water vapor in the atmosphere can not be controlled by us directly. It is fixed by the surface temperature of the Earth.”
As for the tipping point thing, I think you’re being deliberately obtuse.
Would that be the same Michael Mann who invented the phony hockey stick graph? Thought so. BTW John you have been asked to cite your source for “the drought now threatening the prairies” please provide it. Oh wait maybe this is it! http://thumbsnap.com/v/54Tb6xsp.jpg
John, the CBC is left bias personified. I don’t want a “right” bias, I want no bias. Not an impossible request as it is owned by those who the CBC abandons as well as those it champions.
But the CBC is not alone, CTV has an even more pronounced lean to the left. But they are not publicly owned so they can choose an agenda driven concept of the world if they wish.
But why do we bother to fret about viable MSM news venues when they have all shown themselves to be parochial entities woefully lacking in credentials and judgment as to what the news actually is?
After all, who here would say the MSM has two cents of integrity or validity to rub together today compared to what is to be gleaned from the net?
The key to that entire article was
“What this means politically is that the climate debate in this country is going to have to be much more nuanced than elsewhere to make a lasting impact on the average resident. It is going to have to seriously take into consideration benefits. It’s going to have to accept that some of the benefits are genuine improvements and not some oil company’s propaganda.
It’s going to have to recognize that hardly any of us live in the Arctic, and that most of us don’t live in coastal cities. And it’s going to have to tell Canadians specifically what they have to win or lose as a result of climate change.”
Canadians only see benefits and are going to need to have be told not only the benefits of reducing their GHG emission but also the consequences if they.
eg.
We are already seeing increased incidences in forest fires and the spread of the pine beetle but can expect things like-
-Rising sea levels threaten both of Canada’s coasts especially affecting the 2,181,882 people living in the BC lower mainland.
-Increased incidences of severe storms on both coasts and all of Eastern Canada from Manitoba to Gulf of St Lawrence. We’ve already seen some examples of this.
-Influxes of diseases into Canada such as malaria, or dengue fever especially in the southern regions of Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes.
-A northerly migration of species normally found in southern regions of the US such as fire ants, possums, various species of rattle snake, scorpions, Africanised honeybees and species such as the kangaroo rat, a known carrier of bubonic plague or rodents carrying hantavirus.
-Severe reductions in rainfalls and desertification in Canada’s prairie regions and threatening western food production.
-Global economic downturn leading to a worldwide depression (but the oil companies will be nice and rich).
Sorry to all!!! I overestimated john’s IQ. due to false balance I am now convinced that his IQ is only slightly above that of melting snow. john false balance is when prejudices get in the way of letting other people express their point of view. In fact the “false balance” premise is what is so dangerous to a democracy. Simply put, who shall determine true balance? A conservative has a world view every bit as valid as a socialist until it is put to the test. A conservative will use his world view as a filter to determine ‘truth’ just as a socialist will use his world view as a filter to determine ‘truth’. However when only one ‘truth’ is broadcast that ‘truth’ becomes false balance. Again john please don’t confuse fact with opinion.
it doesnt matter what way the cbc leans, its paid for by stealing the cash out of all our pockets so its gotta go!!!!
..and i will NEVER tune in those $%^&*( or let my child have his thoughts twisted by them either!

Those are impressive references you gave and did you know that according to the Royal Astronomical Society if the Sun goes nova all life on earth will cease? Now if we could have only convinced the dinosaurs to quit breaking wind the climate would not have changed and we could all be riding our own pet T Rex to school.
Dis darn-ome newfie warnts to no wen global warming is realle cumming cuz we got ova 100 fish bouts stuk in da ice las munt,!!!
“Rising sea levels threaten both of Canada’s coasts especially affecting the 2,181,882 people living in the BC lower mainland.” Bull, even the IPCC states that the expected rise in sea level during the next century is .1 meter to a max of .9 meter. Sea levels experienced a rise of .2meter during the last century with few if any reports of catastrophe.
“Increased incidences of severe storms on both coasts and all of Eastern Canada from Manitoba to Gulf of St Lawrence.”
Again bull. In all likely hood BC’s windstorm of last year was caused by an infusion of dust particles blown in from China. The weather on the east coast has been typical east coast weather snow snow and more snow. No violent hurricanes made landfall in the US last year despite predictions that they would. Last winters weather was caused by el nino not Global warming.
Influxes of diseases into Canada such as malaria, or dengue fever especially in the southern regions of Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes.
Bull! Malaria existed in Canada up until the early 1900’s. If the conditions existed at that time then they still exist today and are not the result of Global warming but of the global transportation system.
“-A northerly migration of species normally found in southern regions of the US such as fire ants, possums, various species of rattle snake, scorpions, Africanised honeybees and species such as the kangaroo rat, a known carrier of bubonic plague or rodents carrying hantavirus.” Provide scientific research links to this. Rattlesnakes have always existed here. Rats live in dirty enviroments. Bees swarm every year and the spread of the africanized honey bee has been documented for four decades now. The African Bee was introduced into North America with the intent of creating a more robust honeybee. The more agressive African bee rapidly took over honeybee hives and the rest is history. Hantavirus already exists in this country and has for centuries. The onslaught of hikers crowding into the forest for a closer look is the greatest cause of increased incidence of infection, not global warming. Plus if your sweeping out a shed or other area where you suspect mice have left droppings, wear a quality dust mask.
Severe reductions in rainfalls and desertification in Canada’s prairie regions and threatening western food production. I,ve already debunked that one at 8:30 pm
Global economic downturn leading to a worldwide depression (but the oil companies will be nice and rich). You mean we could have a recession? Wow like that’s never happened before!
CBC radio is ALWAYS going on about how worse off the Inuit are going to have it due to global warming.
One would could argue this to be an insult to Canadian intelligence, but this is the CBC we’re talking about…
“Severe reductions in rainfalls and desertification in Canada’s prairie regions and threatening western food production. I,ve already debunked that one at 8:30 pm”
You debunked nothing Greg, you gave a weather report.
Yeah and it says no drought
