But Alexa stats have been known to be false since their inception. The stats aren’t derived from Internet traffic in any way, they are actually gathered from people who have installed by the Alexa toolbar in their browser.
To be fair, I don’t know anyone who has it installed at home! Most people are against transferring their personal data and internet surfing history to a third party when there is no gain to be had. I do know a company who has it installed on all their office computers and guess what? All that traffic they receive from editors and administrators of their own site adds up to make them around 300,000 on the Internet…..despite the fact that they probably can’t claim more than 300 unique viewers a day.
That being said, and again being fair, my personal opinion is that SDA is STILL more popular than Suzuki’s site just based on the content and audience.

You missed my point Kate, both the numbers and the trends are irrelevant! It doesn’t matter how they are gathered, they represent ONLY THOSE people who have chosen to install the Alexa toolbar. Do you have it installed? Does anyone you know have it installed? Then who are these people visiting your site with it installed? Can you see how they are pointless?
The Alexa numbers do not represent a slice of Internet traffic. They don’t measure people going through a router somewhere – that’s a violation of the law!
Don’t get me wrong, I love the site, but you guys are clearly out of your territory here. Stick to the real stats which are your web server logs and even more importantly, the number of human presented comments on here which are in support of the site. That’s the real indicator.
Now, if you REALLY want these fake, unmeaningful numbers to go to work for you, Kate, just ask all your readers to install the Alexa toolbar! Then tell the visitors to visit your site once per day and do NOT visit Suzuki’s site. In six months that little line will be MUCH higher. It still won’t mean anything and it will be artificially inflated but at least it will look good as a front page story and maybe give you some kind of gratification.
