Which is why we heard so much about what “lessons” we were to draw from Bush’s stumping at a school that had a ban on interracial dating (a ban it lifted in the wake of Bush’s visit).
Yet we seldom hear the same kind of criticism from “progressives” when Democratic politicians visit black Baptist churches. Are Bill and Hillary anti-gay? Is Edwards?
I rather doubt it, but that’s beside the point, really. Because the trick of identity politics is to gather up grievance groups as voting blocs, and to do that, one has to embrace their grievance narratives and sympathize—usually with government largesse or group-specific legislation. When the grievance narratives of two identity blocs sharing the same political affiliation conflict, the “pragmatic” thing to do, progressives have found, is to pretend they hadn’t noticed.

You can see a variant of this in the circumstances surrounding Don Imus’ firing. Imus’s cheap shot at the Rutger’s basketball team naturally brought up the whole subject of rap music lyrics because his words were taken from that idiom (faux street slang), but Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson had little to say about rap until the hypocrisy of their own posturing as regards Imus became an issue. Sharpton now says he wants to clean up rap music, but he wasn’t howling about it on TV a week ago as he was about Imus, and I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for him to turn up at a record company’s offices with Tipper Gore any time soon. When a white guy says “nappy headed hoes”, he’s in s—. When a black guy says it, it’s just straight talk from the street by a member of an historically oppressed ethnic victim group, another casualty of decadent-racist-neocolonialist-imperialistic capitalism. We’re expected to see it in “context.”
None of this is an apology for Imus, by the way. It’s just a rant about hypocrisy.
If you’re interested, a Chicago Sun-Times story carries the claim that Jesse Jackson had received bomb threats. The police are looking into it, but they’ve found nothing as of yet.

There is validity to the notion there are a academic/political/NGO elites who are deconstructing the traditional western culture to construct the new ant-hill society of the “global village”…and the Billary tag team are dupes for this transnational progressivist agenda.
The good news is this agenda has had only limited success in America, the bad news is that many still refuse to see it for what it is and do not actively oppose the statist devolution of the empowered individual citizen and the constitutional republic.

Average joe citizen, and I’m not denigrating anyone here just doesn’t show any meaningful interest in his political surroundings.
This is sad of course but IMO the innevitable outcome of our credit system/banking practices.
People are just too concerned about possesions and what they can next buy, to be overly concerned about their choices and freedoms as relates to their gov’t.and its poicies.
Credit as it stands today is akin to dangling the proverbial carrot on a pole in front of the blindered dray horse.
