Stéphane Dion proves he is an environmentalist

You know things are going badly for Dion when he gets ridiculed in MacLeans:

January, 2006: New dog. Names him Kyoto.
April, 2006: Launches Liberal leadership bid. Says a third pillar, environmental sustainability, must be added to the first two, prosperity and social justice.
May-November, 2006: 472 speeches about the third pillar. None about the first two.
(snip)
July, 2007: New budgie. Names it Al Gore.
August-October, 2007: Launches “I’m So Green I’m a Freaking Leprachaun” tour.

And that’s not all. Be sure to read it all.

  1. Just a tip to help Dijon get some good headlines, for a change:
    -Get another dog

  2. A fairly brutal pile on, which makes me wonder how long Mr Dion can last. Leaders who are ridiculed like this have simply been written off.

  3. Didn’t see the press conference. Did any sycophants in the media bother to ask Ms. May about nutjob Green Candidate Kevin Potvin? See National Newswatch if you don’t know what I’m talking about…only canada.com had the stones to run the story on this creep.

  4. Have you ever noticed that when a Liberal is getting their corrupt incompetent useless ass kicked in a blog a pathetic Liberal troll will slam you for a spelling mistake.
    How Liberal
    How pathetic

  5. What?! The “leftwing” media attacking a Liberal. Someone better contact Maurice Strong or the UN.

  6. Wow – and notice that National Newswatch has a sidebar on May’s Green Party candidate in Vancouver. He’s Kevin Potvin, who writes that ‘we share common cause with the Islamic terrorists’.
In an editorial in his The Republic newspaper, Potvin writes glowingly about Islamic fascism, writing that they are not radical fascists, out to kill and murder, in the name of their religion and their ideology of subjugating others to their lifestyle. No, they are reasonable people, with valid and commendable aims, simply of taking back their oil revenues from the imperialist Big Corporations. That’s all ‘terrorism’ is about, and we, in the West, are quite wrong to denigrate and reject them.
The London subway bombings? Not a terrorist act but a legitimate act, because they are ‘at war’ with us, for their reasonable and valid rights to oil revenues, and their reasonable and valid rejection of our corrupt, sexually explicit television and so on.
Read it – This is the Green Party, and this is what Stephen Dion is aligning himself with. And with Al Gore’s religious mania, and with other cultists.
The Liberal Party is descending into cultism. With Chretien and Martin, it had moved into corruption – big business corruption via PowerCorp, Desmarais, etc.
Now, with Dion, it is moving into a cult, trying to align itself with emotional rites and acts of purification, including changes of ‘clean the environment! stop evil emissions! move us all to poverty – for poverty is purity!
Corruption to cultism. Quite the slipperly slope to fanaticism.

  7. frank, Ted, iberia, albatross39;
    take Dion to the river
    drop him in the water
    thanks

  8. Someone has renamed the green party the Watermelon Party, green on the outside, red on the inside. Monte Solberg brought up Potvin today during his response to the red/green alliance. Notice, May wore Red, Dion had on a blue shirt. No green in sight, not even his green scarf from the convention. Eventually, Dion and May will have to respond to Potvin, as it is all over the net.

  9. Another thought on May’s red blouse. It is Friday, wear red, so maybe she was showing her support for our troops in Afgan.

  10. Oh, please, Iberia, spare us your acid tongue!
Seriously, could any snarky little remark dim the joy of watching the most ineffectual, silliest liberal in history gradually self-destruct?
    Speaking for myself, no.

  11. John G: What do you have against Green Party Candidate Kevan Potvin? I read that article of his and I have to say, there’s a lot of it that I am entirely in agreement with.
    For example:
“When we fight to remove Coke machines from our elementary schools, to filter pornographic web sites from our public library computers, to restrict admittance to excessively violent films in our theatres, and to ban cigarette and alcohol advertising from cultural and public events, we are totally of like mind and purpose with the core of Islamist terrorist cells.”

  12. What did one Central Nova Liberal say to the other Central Nova Liberal ? ……
” So , this is what the underside of the campaign bus looks like “.

  13. Paul Wells nailed it.
The ridicule is deserved. Its almost sad to see a once proud party do something as stupid as aligning themselves with the GreenP.The Liberal brand is going to be damaged almost beyond repair with this move.
Conservatives will at least spank their party for losing their principals like we did to Mulroney.
However, Liberals will continue to attach themselves to a party whose principals have eroded to the point that it sees nothing wrong with aligning themselves with a party that cheers mass murder of innocent people.
    Disgusting.
However, Its a good thing we have Liberals around to save us from the likes of a typo.

  14. I think that the new Liberal-Green party should, as so many have already done, be named, officially, as the Red-Green Party.
Robert – those agendas as not the ‘core of Islamist terror cells’. The people who want those actions, eg, removing soft drink machines from elementary schools, blocking pornographic web sites on public library computers, restricting admission to violent films, and banning cigarette ads – are not Islamic fascists. They are ordinary, non-political citizens of Canada, of the US, of European countries, etc. These agendas have absolutely nothing to do with Islamic fascism.
I suggest you find out exactly what the agenda of Islamic fascism is – and don’t fall for the ignorant, utter stupidity of someone like Kevin Potvin.
Oh, by the way, regular citizens who want those above agendas, don’t blow up those schools or threaten to murder the children or others unless the rules are changed; they work, as civic members of the society, to persuade others by reason, by evidence, by discussion.

  15. Did you see Layton’s press conference about this?
Layton looks reasonable compared to these clowns. That is saying a lot too.
The question is who is more of an idiot, Dion or May? Dion thinks he is a leader. May thinks she can win in Central Nova.
At this point, it looks like the Tories will have a massive majority with the Dippers forming the official opposition.

  16. I’m sorry, but when I read vile garbage from the likes of Potvin, ridiculing him is not the first thing that comes to my mind.
“When the visage of the Pentagon appeared on the TV with a gaping and smoking hole in its side, that little voice had nearly taken me over, and I felt an urge to pump my fist in the air,” Mr. Potvin wrote in the editorial.”
I had an urge to pump my fist as well, but not in the air.

  17. Multirec: Yes and No. I think most of Potvin’s article is easily refutable ahistorical rubbish and I also think that the Greens are a bona fide crypto-fascist party that will eventually resort to the ugliest forms of coercion to turn people Green. Look at a green web message board and you’ll find lots of justification for violent ‘means’ to the glorious green ‘ends’. They’re vile. We “need” them in parliament as much as we need a horse in the senate.
That said, when a Green-y says that he finds common cause with Islamic Terrorists, because they both hate Coca-Cola, Porn, Violent Movies, cigarettes and alcohol – that’s just so good it has to be fattening. He’s inadvertently, hell, – proudly – admitting that by banning all of those little things in order to ‘protect’ us common folk, he is no different that Zawahiri.

  18. If i was a card carrying liberal & my leader just informed me that iam not voting liberal what would i do ??? for once i agree with jack this is a democracy & i have a right to vote for who i please not who the leader tells me to vote for when it is not even my party, Yes i would be ticked.

  19. someday, probably only after an election campaign starts, people will actually read the Green Party Manifesto/Policy Book.
Then the crap will hit the air movement assistance system when their crypto-commie policies for just about everything get some much needed light.
Some young journalist wanting to make a national name is going to ambush Ms. May at a press conference with some hard ass questions.
That’s because the Greeny-Weenies are commies at heart . . . . collectivism at its worst.
Ms. May needs to be ripped but good.

  20. “John G: What do you have against Green Party Candidate Kevan Potvin? I read that article of his and I have to say, there’s a lot of it that I am entirely in agreement with.”
Now I’m confused Robert. It sounded to me that you agreed with Potvin in your first post…maybe my reading comprehension is diminishing.

  21. And to think that, during the LPC leadership campaign, I was praying for a Bob Rae win…
Dion is the best thing that has happened to the CPC since….well…Harper…

  22. Red and Green. Mixed makes brown. Now what stinking substance is brown? How apropos.

  23. Let’s keep this guy. Maybe it’s time to let up on the ads, the longer Dion is there the bigger mess he will make.

  24. The Tories do not need to make attack ads against Dion, the liberal media is attacking him for them. Who would have thought we would see this?
Harper better snap an election before the Liberals stage a palace coup against Dion.

  25. May is now on the record as saying that, if Potvin truly holds those “despicable” views on 9/11, he is not welcome in the Green Party.
Here is Potvin’s “retraction,” so May can give him the benefit of the doubt:
“Let’s face facts. If the news on the morning of September 11 was that 3,000 Tanzanians or Burmese had been killed, they wouldn’t have broken in on regularly scheduled programming, or cancelled football games, and there’d be no conversation about it the next day.”
Mr. Potvin said in a telephone interview last night that he is now skeptical that the events of 9/11 were entirely the work of terrorists.
“I have no idea what happened on that day, but it’s certainly not the story that Washington propagates.”
Mr. Potvin, who was recently acclaimed as a Green party candidate, is today meeting with voters to discuss “9/11 truth and its implications for Canadian foreign policy” at a downtown Vancouver cafe.
OK, is he gone yet? His comment about 3000 dead in Burma or Thailand wouldn’t be seen or discussed in MSM is laughable. Yes it would, I think. For sure it would be news in Burma and Thailand. What is his point, anyway?
I fully expect to see his nomination withdrawn forthwith. What a hateful bigot, what Lenin termed “useful idiots.”
I’m not holding my breath, though. The Red Green Show, it just keeps on giving.
Hope National Newswatch is right, and writ to be dropped 17 Apr. Can’t wait.
No wait, I’m really scared, and the proof is I’m criticizing Liberals. What a lame bunch!
When will the first stringers come back and return Dion to the minors?

  26. Shamrock mentioned this:
    …-
    Election Fever Heats Up
    Friday, 13 April 2007
Yesterday, (April 12) National Newswatch featured a Political Notebook item indicating insiders were saying Prime Minister Harper would pull the plug on Tuesday, April 17. And now comes this news…
The HOC’s ‘Projected Order of Business’ for next week has changed.
A National Newswatch reader writes the following:
The page used to have Private Members’ Bills listed for the rest of the week
    (past Tuesday). Now it doesn’t.
    See for yourself: CLICK HERE
All projected business beyond April 17, has been removed from the HOC’s ‘Projected Order of Business’ Web page…..-

  27. maz2: April 13, 2007 8:25 PM
That’s a stretch … why would anyone telegraph their punches like that? … there is no need.

  28. And how dose the DIJON wussietard get around i suppose he dont flap his arms or walks and i suppose he dont teleport himself like HARRY POTTER and he dont run like THE FLASH just how do these liberal know it alls get around? ME I FLY SQUAWK SQUAWK

  29. His second pillar, social justice, lame and lefty enough to be ridiculed to hell and back – define that?, ought to be by any thinking person/journalist the hammer that pounds this little moron into the ground.
We’ve got stupidity in spades going on here south of the border with the Dems, but, Dion is an idiot in a league of his own.

  30. Who is the leader of Russia. Any relation to you know who. The msm turning on their own, priceless.
Guess all of them have decided that there will be a Harper majority, or very increased minority, and their hopes for a senate seat, GG post, head of major crown corp are very far in the future.

  31. Flashback to this earlier classic from Maclean’s.
    Highlights
His wife says that Dion is so clumsy he’s absolutely useless around the house. “He can’t be trusted to change a light bulb”. But seemingly able to tell the plebs what type of enviro-friendly light bulb they must use.
Dion had this to say this about his own father Leon Dion, an influental Quebec political “scientist” in his own right: “My father had a considerable influence on me, but I wanted to become a man — and, quite often, the young man has to confront the father to do that. It’s the classic way.” — yep, that’s the patricide part, the part in which Dion figuratively kills his father figure to emerge as his own man.
Dion’s [Poli-Science PHD] thesis subject was the elected, Marxist suburban governments [in Paris].
He began the first leg of his own political journey by naming his pet turtle Trotsky
“I have been thinking in the framework of peaceful political action. Janine [his wife] has developed an expertise in political violence. It is the opposite of what is usually expected in a couple: it’s the man who’s intrigued by violence, and the woman who understands better how political influence works.”
After he lost his job as environment minister to Stephen Harper’s Conservatives last year, he bought himself a white Siberian husky he named Kyoto. Literally and figuratively.

  32. Liberals in Central Nova could always band together and run an Independent Liberal candidate at the next election. And if they can’t use the word Liberal then Independent Grit.

  33. Liberals in Central Nova could always band together and run an Independent Liberal candidate at the next election. And if they can’t use the word Liberal then Independent Grit. Better still True Grit.

  34. Liberals are like lab rats they eat their young if you leave them without food for the week end.
In this case the Pinko McLeans editors are letting some personal Dion back-stabbing through the corporate editorial grid to signal the Lib power elite cannot stand a leader who can’t deliver a electoral victory…and citoyen DeYawn can’t…they see the Harper Majority months before the ballots are cast….DeYawn has a uncanny ability to turn off the middle class centrist voter ( the prime capture group to break a minority mandate) and now he’s alienating even the soft liberal voter with moonbat antics and cultist politics.
I wonder where Wells and the lib-left MSM peanut gallery were when this guy (Dijon) was busy screwing up every portfolio handed to him?? When he was minister of unity his Borat-like jibes at the west alienated the west and his similar gaffes in Quebec pit the PQ ahead in the polls until he was removed from the job.
As environment minister he’s the guy who sat on his thumbs for years and did nothing to meet Kyoto targets that put Canada into the very expensive default position it’s in now.
So, besides being a French citizen, a washout at every thing he’s touched, an alienated academic doofus who can’t relate to people, an insulated Quebeois who can’t relate to ROC, a Failed environmentalist and part of the most corrupt cabinet Canada ever suffered under, …what was the media protecting??? Why weren’t they savaging this washout 5 years ago?
Well’s Citoyen Dijon bitch-slap is too little too late and has more partisan manouvering about than ethical outrage.
