The aggressively photogenic John Edwards was cruising along, detailing his litany of liberal causes last week until, during question time, he invoked the “I” word — Israel. Perhaps the greatest short-term threat to world peace, Edwards remarked, was the possibility that Israel would bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities. As a chill descended on the gathering, the Edwards event was brought to a polite close.

The exact opposite is true.
The greatest short-term threat to world peace is the possibility that Israel (or the US) DOESN’T bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.
In 1981, Israel bombed the Osirak nuclear testing reactor in Iraq, to stop Saddam from acquiring the bomb.
For their trouble, Israel was condemned by almost every nation, including the US.
Imagine trying to push Saddam out of Kuwait if he had nukes in his arsenal.
If Israel does strike Iran, the howls of protest will be worse than 1981.
Ten years from now, it will be seen, like Osirak, as a brilliant tactical move to delay Armageddon in the Mideast.

And the greatest long-term threat to world peace is socialism.
I think it was a calculated remark. It signals to the moveon.org types that he isnt the same and yet there is enough wiggle room in that statement for him to backdown. He could change it to ” the biggest threat to world peace is that Israel finds it necessary to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.
There are no quotes on the original newreport so tough to say if thats what he actually said, but I still believe his remarks are calcuated. Watch him go and make some clarification remark today or Sunday that reworks the position a little. He is chasing the moveon people to keep them from Obama.
Paraphrasing Edawards’ handlers:
Well what he MEANT to say, donchaknow, is that the biggest threat would be if Israel HAD to bomb Iran. Errr.. actually what he meant was Iran is a threat. (No wait, well, what do YOU think?) Come to think of it, what he REALLY meant was, um, ..whatever you think. Um, yah. (Whew. Close call.)
*rolling eyes*
I remember a quote from a good American fellow, when he was asked in a satirical TV show the question ‘who is the next country the US should bomb?’. The gentleman said ‘Middle east – let’s just make a big glass crater out of them’. 5 years down the road I recall his words as a prophecy almost every day.
Israel IS a nuclear threat although a tightly regulated one.
Let’s remember they are not supposed to have nukes in the first place but they got them from the US in a clandestine deal that circumvented open international diplomacy and the ME treaties they had signed.
They acted as if they had no nukes for years and now it is such a widely known fact that US congress debate the issue as if it was fact.
As a destabilizing force in the ME Israel is no more or less a destabilizing force than their neighbors who wish to annihilate them. If you call a resolve to stave off annihilation a “threat” then you have to live there a while to understand the irrationality of that statement.
One thing for sire you dont ever ubtain world peace through wacky and crazy stunts or by floating candels down rivers on little paper boats or by going up on amountian and meditating or going OOOMMM OOOMMM OOOMMM or by the birth of white buffalos. these liberals are always doing crazy and weird things to bring peace
WL, that Israel obtained nukes from the United States is as much fiction as the canard about the US arming Saddam.
Israel is, and always has been, a Western high-tech nation. Israel has always had world-class physicists, chemists, engineers, computer scientists, etc. and a high-tech economic infrastructure to support them.
Nuclear power plant technology is not that demanding for an educated, Western technological nation. Using the enriched uranium waste therefrom to construct nuclear weapons isn’t that insurmountable challenge to such a nation either.
So, unless you’ve got some serious evidence you can quote and refer us to here for independent reading and confirmation, we can reasonably conclude your statement is false.
sarge here aint we still holding a american named pollard for giving our nuke secrets to israel and aint the israelis still trying to free him via diplomacy?
little beaver chopping kanukistani should wonder why china and russia is sending all them weapons to iran the great chess game to take control middle east oil and surround the caspian basin with military bases to become the dominant power over oil and LP/LNG that has traditionally been the m russian’s area of influence-i’m sure they wont mind china don’t care if their expansion will be slowed when they have to buy that oil from us. no sarge is sure Israel wont use no nuke bunker bustes neither…even though they been practicing sending nukes down the wholes made by conventional robust earth penetrators.no sarge is sure it will all go just fine dont listen to know john edwards what does he know if old john mentions how we is gona take yer tar sands away from ya and explore for oil in yer nothern territories despite yer sovereignty i wouldnt listen to that niether just whistle a little tune beaver choppers and go on yer merry way
Edward is an abulance chasing, leftard, A-hole who is responsible for large numbers of pregnant women in the US unable to find a doctor willing to deliver their baby due to the liablity risk prick lawyers like Edwards caused.
And then he went into politics…
Sarge, put down the bottle and go have a nap. Come back when your bloody alcohol is less than 50%.
sarge here. the mrussians love us!
“BERLIN – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Wednesday called a Russian general’s warning that Poland and the Czech Republic risk being targeted if they host U.S. missile defense bases “extremely unfortunate.”
Rice also repeated assurances the system does not threaten Russia.
Gen. Nikolai Solovtsov, head of Russia’s strategic missile forces, said Monday that Russia might train its missiles on the two countries if they accept a U.S. proposal to base 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar in the Czech Republic.”
old puty pute putin is still little commander bunny pant’s soul brother i guess-and that “sovietologist” condi rice never saw it commin?. naw, attacking iran wont cause no regional conflict at all-sarge would point out the only diff between afganistan for them russians in the 1980s and iran/iraq for the US of a is a super power suppliing unlimited quantities of money and weapons to our foes. sarge wonders how those chinese sunburn anti ship missles will do interdicting tanker traffic in the straights and gulf-hell just the increase in insurance d/t the threat should spike yer gallon of gas to at least 5 bucks.
Wow, sarge: You wrote three whole paragraphs with no punctuation errors! Oh! Wait! Those were cut and paste. Your next para makes up for it but I like your previous post best of all …… roughly 200 words without a single punctuation. Actually, we wouldn’t mind poor puctuation if we could only understand what you’re trying to write.
That’s the beauty of Amerabia and the Amerabian system and the all those other ever lovin’ rabs.
These guys get found out and go down in flames and they sooner or later fall by the wayside.
“So, unless you’ve got some serious evidence you can quote and refer us to here for independent reading and confirmation, we can reasonably conclude your statement is false”
many ex US command personel state in a plethora of publication that Israel has “nuclear capability” and the material was supplied by the US through 3rd party channels….then you has Gen. Tommy Franks openly postulating that If it is too hot politically for the US to “take out Iran’s Nuke refining facilities” maybe we can persuade Israel to sail a couple of “low yield nukes” down the rabbit hole.
Franks did the usual retration song and dance later but it;s asfe to assume Isreal has nukes or nuke capability or access if they are needed.
You gotta lose this sanctity thing about what IS foreign polict is prepared to do Dave…they ain’t boy scouts …because they ain’t facing boy scouts.
So Israel and the US will official deny having nukes….and they officially deny supplying Saddam with weapons when he was usuing them against Iran…so the check is in the mail and I promise I’ll respect you in the morning…so
