  3. Im baaaaa-a-a-aaaaack !!!!!
    well, now not only do I not watch any cbc but ma bell pulled the plug on my satellite when I refused to cough up the exorbitant price for service that failed at least once and on avg 2 or 3 times a month since I got it a year ago. ENOUGH !!!
    I demanded a credit for the outages, they refused, I refused to pay the bill and today much to the chagrine of the couch potatoes in the house all I get now is some sort of goofy built in game on the scanner.
    ah well, all the more time to engage in my other fav pasttime, verbal jousting with all you worthy opponents !!!
    by the way, whoever accused Kate of ’86ing’ my previous persona owes her a big time apology. once I cut the foul language from the postings she didnt even hint at any sort of such heavy handedness. some of you would leap at the chance. that being the case why not set up your OWN blog and cut off all the naysayers ???

    anyway, oh ya, along witht he no disconnected expressvu, by chance I had arranged for primus phone service which kicked in today as well. for just over HALF what I was paying ma bell but MORE phone features.
    what does it mean when you pick up the phone and it beeps non stop until you dial a number???

  5. Alcan was already cutting production of aluminum (and jobs) because it was more profitable to sell surplus power back to BC Hydro. They were originally given rights to use the river at exceptionally low water rates in an effort to support it’s aluminum operations, not to export bulk power.
    Under the proposed deal, BC’s ratepayers would have bought electricity from Alcan at a locked in price which was way above the market rate. In return, Alcan claimed it would expand the smelting operation, but the BC government did not secure this promise in the contract so Alcan would not be under any obligation to fulfill it. That is why the BC Utility Commission ruled that the agreement was not in the public interest and cancelled it.

    The province {Quebec], is giving Alcan a $400-million interest-freeloan over 30 years, in addition to $112 million in tax breaks.
    Alcan will also have continued access to a secure supply of about 2,600 megawatts of low-cost power through 2045.”
    The Good News:
    The project is to begin in 2008, with the construction of a $600-million plant to test its more cost-efficient AP50 smelting technology. The plant will be located at Alcan’s Complexe Jonquiere site and is to produce 60,000 tonnes of aluminum a year when completed in 2010.
    ======== While I can not agree with so much public subsidy to a profitable corporation, it is important that aluminium be produced in a more efficient modern way.
    The huge gobs of hydro power wasted in aluminium production has been crying out for correction for years. It*s about time this waste be minimized. = TG
