For decades I have listened to the gay political movement paint homosexuals as “victims” with a miserable existance of adjusting to their “special condition” and grasping at small hopes of normalcy by rationalizing this condition as uncommon but natural and unalterable…genetic. This core belief drives the gay marriage and gay adoption and cloning agendas…these are presumably attempts at normalizing a less than desirable “affliction” which would otherwise deny a “gay” victim a normal wedded long term committed heterosexual relatinship and the “normal” family this entails.
I wonder what the Gay political movement would say if the all elusive “Gay gene” was discovered?…..of course that means that the “gayness” handicap could then be eliminated through modern genetics and delt with much as we deal with irradication of other life altering genetic diseases/afflictions and birth defects.

The gay lifestyle started to come out of the closet, when a bunch of cowardly draft dodgers said they were gay to avoid the draft. But, the war lasted 10 years and these guys had to play the game and live the life. If it is not a choice, why do so many come out after years of marriage, children etc. The fact they come out tells me they made a choice. They chose to life a non gay life, then chose to live the gay life. Genetics has nothing to do with it, and as far as I am concerned, being born gay is right up there with Y2K, Kyoto, Global warming/cooling. If it is genetic, they don’t deserve any more sympathy, special treatment, rights/freedoms than someone born with the gene that causes, muscular dystropy, Downs, or any of the other genetic diseases. Interesting conundrum. It is said to be genetic so a natural question is which gene is it? Then once they find it what are its effects.
Now here is the real question. Lets say they find it and it is reversible OR causible.
Is it legal and ethical to change the baby from being gay? Better question, is it legal and ethical to make a baby gay? Would a gay couple want gay children, should we make them that way?
Is it the same…lots of questions. Should eb an interesting debate to watch. But I still think the research should take place, what we all do with the answers afterwards is another question.

I’ve always thought the reverse would be true. If a gay fetus could be identified, how many ultra-right wingers would then want the right to abort it?
I believe in choice when it comes to pregnancy – the time to make that choice is before you have sex. We have a multitude of ways to prevent a pregnancy. Use more than one birth control method at a time, and you shouldn’t have unwanted pregnancies.
Being gay, and having always been gay, even when attempting to date men and fit into my family and society, I have never felt it to be a choice. For those of you who do feel like you could choose, try it for a month – try really hard to choose to be gay and go act on it. If it’s a choice, you should be able to put your mind to and make it work for you.

– stupidity
– arrogance
– indifference
– sociopathic behaviour
– violence
– greed
– etc, etc
Of course, the above categories taken together, account for a much more significant portion of the population, than just the gay population.

I think it is logical that gays should be militantly pro-life, because if there really is a genetic predisposition to homosexual behaviour, then human beings could be aborted based on a likelihood of being gay, and a society could decide to try to eliminate homosexuality in a single generation through eugenics.

Look, I don’t know what kind of urges *you’ve* hbeen suppressing, but I’ve never once in my life had to battle a hankering for hairy male ass (nor shaved male ass, for that matter). I’ve always been straight — no question about it.

Probably very few of them. The majority of this crowd holds that homosexuality is a personal choice and I doubt they’ll be swayed by evidence. It’s my experience that most of the members of this crowd are highly religious and somewhat impervious to logic.
There will always be homosexuals. A genetic predisposition just makes it an easier choice for some, a compulsion for some others. Like a fat kid coming from a fat family. It might be in their genes to be fat, but they don’t have to grow up that way.
Testing genetic modification on humans for a gay gene is a long, long time away. Tinkering around on a sheep’s genetics- where it doesn’t really matter if the sheep comes out depressed or stupid or has an extra long tail as long as he keeps humping the ewes- is very different from risking your child’s mental and physical health.
Amen to those who have noted all the times that homosexuals have said for public consumption that “I’d never choose this.” It’s probably fair to note that there is no guarantee that those same folks are the ones opposed to changing the genetic expression of sheep, but it’s still a fair point.
On a slightly different but, I think, related point, why should homosexuality be treated any differently from any other trait? Consider depression. I have suffered from depression for more than forty years, or perhaps “suffer” isn’t the right word for the past seventeen or so, thanks to Prozac. Now that’s a choice that I make for myself, and not for anybody else. Were there a means of intervening in utero, however, to change genes or their expression so that the unborn child would never suffer from depression, I would support its use wholeheartedly, subject, of course, to economic considerations.

I can’t say I recall hearing the term “female feticide”. However, it is general policy in BC and I think across Canada not to tell parents the sex of their children. However, many do in fact find out because doctors and technicians tell them anyway.
How much information should be imparted to parents from the immuno centesis tests? Major birth defects? Gender? I am wondering what’s the best approach here.

In the article, it refers to a hormonal imbalance not a genetic disorder (as being acted upon by the researchers.) It also mentions something as simple as a patch (like a nicotine patch) to compensate for the imbalance. Although I’m sure it will take years of research to cover all the details, we’re not talking rocket science here.
The worst thing (according to some) about this research is that it demystifies the whole homosexuality thing into a hormonal imbalance that is treatable. This would cripple the whole “gay” industry and an entire bloc of the “victimhood” sector. Expect further uproar.

Lots of gay people are pro-life, and lots of gay people are also deeply religious. Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Amish, Mormon, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Hindu, I know gay people from all of these religions and more who are gay and have kept their faith. They may not be welcome in their original church family, and they have created or joined other church families to maintain their connection to God.
Heterosexuals do not own God or the world in which we all live. Those who think they do show the utmost in arrogance in pretending to speak for God. God likes gay people, else why would he have gotten Michaelangelo to paint the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel?
During the Accord debate, I attended a meeting with several politicans on the panel. During the question period I asked, Is there any possibility, that if this passes, it could lead to SSM, considering that many other things the libs said would never happen, have happened. Answer, by all those on the panel, ABSOLUTELY NOT, SSM will never be allowed in Canada. So, don’t be so quick to say, it will never happen, whatever it is. Who, 40 years ago, would have thought that a religious organization would be fined for not allowing a gay reception in their hall. Too bad all those born after 1980 are not forced to read all the newspapers, Hansard, newsprograms on TV etc. of what happened before they were born. There was a time when smoking was legal and homosexuality was illegal. How times have changed.
