Online poll on the question – Should Canada be continuing to contribute troops to NATO’s mission in Afghanistan?
38 Replies to “Angus Reid”
Get over and vote people, it seems the looney left has the upper hand on this poll, not that a poll will sway the government in power over this issue anyway.
70-30 for No when I voted.
Get your know what over there and vote. Must give Angus Reid some credit, it is described as a NATO Mission.
That’s what’s fun about them. They don’t matter, yet it gets under the skin of so many people when the results “go horribly wrong”.
Kate is the Grinch that Polled Christmas.
Just added my vote – now it’s 69 to 31…it’s a start.
Ummmm…I just discovered that they aren’t dropping any cookies or recording the IP’s…there is nothing to stop someone from voting over and over again. Or, if there is, it’s not saying so.
I would have expected better from Angus Reid. Could be that liberals have already discovered this and that’s why the poll numbers look so different from the 50-50 one would expect to see.
All I care about is that our troops get the best protection with support we can give them. If that means we have to suffer a while to achieve it.
So be it.
Polls are rain on the ocean for objectivity & moonbeams on a spotlight for a real obsevation of human opinion. Useless in other words.
Last time I looked, participation in the Cdn. Armed Forces was voluntary.
Now ,all other points aside, these soldiers are of the age of majority and as adults we assume they know what they are involved in.
Is it not to their credit that they are involved in this mission?
Perhaps it slipped my mind that in Canada one is not supposed to steer their own boat.
How foolish of me!
66 No
I expect the numbers will freeze as soon as Angus Reid becomes aware of Kates’ linking.
Heh.
🙂
I have believed for some time now that unless we get troops from some other NATO countries we should consider pulling our troops out of Afghanistan and our country out of NATO. NATO is becoming as irrelevant as the UN. I believe in the mission but if this is a UN operation conducted by NATO troops it is time for NATO countries to step up.
36% yes vs 64% no at 1:30 pm (and that was my second vote – and last – for Yes)…that’s 6% in 1hr and 20 min.
Ball on the SDA 15 yard line with 4:30 left to go in the 4th quarter…is there time for a stunning turnaround?
I also think Canada should take a hard look at Afghanistan.
I agree with the intent of the mission but look at what is happening. Even though it is a suppossedly UN/NATO mission, where are our “allies” ??? Countries like France are waffling, AGAIN. The Muslim/alQuaida/Islam threat is closer to France than Canada so let them pick up the slack. It is so telling that countries like Poland are more in step with the ‘west’ than Western Europe is.
It may not be a stretch to suggest that countries like France and Germany are more likely to snuggle up to Euro-abia than the West anyways. After reading ‘America Alone’ by Mark Steyn, I can believe it.
If W-Europe is a lost cause, it is a lost cause. They will eventually come around when their own women have to live under Muslim Shari Law also. Then it will be too late. Too late for other Euro-lifestyles also.
I guess it was a mistake for Canada and the US to save Europe’s ass in Bosnia. Remember, once burned twice shy. The ratio now must be up to about 4 burnt, 16 shys.
I appears that you can vote as often as you want, casting serious doubt on the validity of the ‘no” result.
Bruce,
As liberals say “vote early and vote often”

I certainly understand the disappointment and disgust with our erstwhile “allies” in NATO.
But it doesn’t matter. Either we as Canadians are doing the right thing, and should be there, or it’s the wrong thing, and we should never have gone there in the first place.
I believe it’s the right and honorable thing to do, and therefore we should be there. Even if we were alone. Even if NATO dissolved tomorrow.
It’s either right or wrong. The world may consist of various shades of grey in most things, but when it comes to people dying, one must be far more “black and white” when making these commitments.
Reasoned decisions based on principle cannot consist of half-measures or faint-heartedness – or the principle no longer exists.
Should we be just like the French? Not me, thanks.
43% now
Just voted and it now is 53-47 No. We’re getting there.
Once again the MSM slant/spin has people following like sheep. All they have to do is show some more wounded/dead canuck soldiers and the NO vote will skyrocket. Little mention of progress as that would indicate that Canada is making a difference there. You also very seldom hear about the allies unless thiere is an accidental friendly fire incident or the are pulling out. Anyone know just how many troops are over there and where they are all from? I didn’t think so. The lefties would rather you think that Canada is doing this all on her own. Anyone ask a soldier how they felt about being pulled from their job because the flower children are worried about them getting hurt (or giving Canada an unprogressive reputation)? Soldiers are trained in the art of war, not snow shovelling or sandbagging. Think about that and get the facts before doing the kneejerk thing that the MSM want you to do.
Amen and pass the ammunition.
The poll is a crock! What a stupid game….this one it seems allows multiple votes….and judging by the rate of change not too many have been clocked!
Angus should do better than that!
51% now just goes to show you what a crock these polls are
i wonder if this will be big news tommorow in the msm
Also doesn’t show the number of pollers.
So have you EVER believed ANY of the MSM polls ???
Has anyone ever seen raw polling data ?? The list of those polled ?? Until then consider ALL MSM so-called ‘Opinion Polls’ as nothing more than propaganda tools. Pravda would have been so lucky to have thought of them. May have prevented the Berlin Wall’s falling and the no-longer duped citizens fleeing to the west.
Trouble is a lot of the ‘Endoctrinated-Lefties’ still didn’t learn the lesson and have now infiltrated NGOs, the UN, Environment Canada, Greenpeace(see Dr. Patrick Moore, Canadian, Greenspirit.com)
Only took a few hours. Can you walk on water Kate ??
near as I can tell it moves a point every 20 clicks ( margin of error +/- 5 clicks) three out of every four votes…or some such…yeeesh.
I have been thinking about this poll off and on all day. My conclusion is that I cannot vote one way or the other.
Initially I was against sending any ground forces to anyware in SW Asia. The people there do not want our help and would be glad to kill us. Contanment by bombing would be less costly.
Canada should know better than to put any trust in France, Germany, or Russia. OOps I forgot Canada’s been controled by Quebec for so long we are moraly bankrupt.
As for the Canadian forces being volintary and having no say in where they go, keep in mind that its called DND department of NATIONAL defence not the department of go where ever the politicans send you so they can look good to whom ever. When I was in the mob (RCN) the saying was “if war breaks out there’ll be two people missing, me and the guy looking for me.
I support the troups and beleive we should spend what ever it takes to make them as safe as possible. I do not beleive that has been done nor do I beleive that the consertavies will do what is necessary. I also beleive that now we’ve started we need to complete the job and that we should also have a close look at our supposed NATO allies.
SO how to answer this poll. I don’t beleive the army should have been sent there in the first place. With the people, and I use that term loosely, who sent them (lib dip bloc ) now doing their best to make them targets I feel that a “no” will give them more incentave to become even bigger ass holes and will do even more dammage to the troups on the ground. The question is too loaded.
58% yes, 42%no, at 6.25 Alberta time.
Hey Tony ,so ,you vote yes its simple by yer logic.Get over it .Ah hell I voted for ya 5 times and another 5 for my brother and sister(pacifist that she is) thanks sis.
Thanks Kate voting is fun again, thanx for the SPCA vote too office voted too .

At 11:33 PM EST, it’s:
Yes 62%
No 38%
66Yes 34No
I’m surprised that Angus Reid is engaging in this kind of polling technique, but what the heck, if they’re going to play online polling lets play.
Its rediculous to think Canada should pull out of Afghanistan over a stupid poll. Doesn’t anyone remember what happened last time the world forgot about Afghanistan?
68 YES,32NO @ 9:19 EST Sat.

That’s funny.

Dear Jack Layton,
You sit there in your quiet home, no fear is in your heart,
You sleep soundly certain that it won’t be blown apart.
Your children they can go to school and play out in the park,
They’ve never seen a bomb explode, heard air raids in the dark.
They’ve never seen dead bodies piled up on the street,
Your wife, she won’t be beaten, treated like a piece of meat.
You are free to form opinions, read any news print you can see,
You enjoy your rights and privileges in this country wide and free.
The reason you can live like that is because I fight your wars,
I fight and push the enemy back, I keep them off our shores.
I am here and you are there pretending you know best.
Well Ole Jack now listen close while I get this off my chest.
You have the right to criticize, you have the right to complain
You don’t have the right to drag me down in a stupid political game.
The thing about your rights Ole Jack, the part you can’t comprehend
Is you work in the very system, the democracy I defend.
I stand on fences around the world protecting those that need it,
It is not for you to determine Jack whether or not it’s worth it.
Ask the people in Afghanistan if they want me to stay,
Women and children depend on me – you say just walk away.
I don’t need your changing policy, trying hard to not lose face,
What I need is you behind me, helping protect this place.
You know its hard to do this when I think I’m all alone.
I hear stories of young punks pissing on memorial stones.
I read the papers over here and they tell me what is said.
Canadians are losing faith I can’t get it through my head.
You say that it is hopeless, it really brings me down
Don’t tell my mother we’re losing, don’t spread that rumour around.
I’m doing good, were winning here but no-one will believe
Because we are way over here where no one there can see.
Women here can work you see, children starting school.
We built a working government, we’ve broken Taliban rule.
We are so close to winning this, it’s not too far away
History will show that we were in the right to stay.
When that brilliant day arrives, victory you’ll claim is ours
You’ll forget you said to run away – forget you are a coward.
On that day just thank me for my courage and my trouble,
Find another place that needs help, and send me on the double
