A “militant middle class” is beginning to arm itself – in Britain.
Shut down the self-serving advocacy groups, and use the resources for real people who legitimately need help, Signs look good for a Disability Savings Plan idea.
In the world of liberalism, all gods are equal.
A reader from Toronto writes;

Subject: Road Stories – The Homefront CFB Edmonton
I have been disappointed in the inept and biased coverage the CBC has been serving up on the war until LAST NIGHT. For the first time Mansbridge, Brian Stuart and company projected a positive, constructive picture of the mission and the men and women involved.
If you mised the CFB Edmonton “Road Story” you should ping your readership and see if anyone taped it. When Canadian soldiers talk about the mission – they are modest, committed and plain spoken. I know of no other example on MSM (broadcast) where ordinary soldiers from western democracies have been permitted to talk about their work so directly.

And good for them. We need more of this – much more.
Add yours in the comments.
And yes, yesterday was my birthday. Thanks for the kind comments and to those who hit the tip jar. As I’m now officially a year older, I decided it was time to change the little portrait on the sidebar. It was getting a bit dated. Hope you like it!

Don’t you just love it when Canadian troops are refered to as “others”? Makes their contributions in Afghanistan seem almost worthwhile.
The rest of the article is crap, too. Obviously, the person who wrote this must think that he is equal to God, since he “knows” what ALL liberals think.

  2. Happy Birthday Kate!
I also watched the CBC ‘Road Stories’ on CFB Edmonton in amazement at the rare unbiased coverage. It truly was a good piece and gave great insight into what our Men and Women in the Forces are doing. Great to hear an actual soldier say that ‘we need to establish security before much of the reconstruction can happen’ Should be a ‘must watch’ for all Canadians.
I’d love to hear Jack Laytons response after watching that, or Ujjal Dosanjh after calling down the mission on CTVs QP the other day….
Loved the “Boomer Caps”. What a strong mother she is.

  5. THE VIRAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST STEPHANE DION
By the time it got maximum media penetration — by the time it started to do what its anonymous proponents had hoped it would do — the Stephane Dion “citizenship” canard was showing up everywhere. Blogs, newspapers, TV and radio, ostensibly independent Web sites. Everywhere. That’s what viral campaigns are conceived to do, and what the anti-Dion campaign did well. It smeared a man who, truly, did not deserve it.

AdScam Dion: There is no canard about Dion’s central place in the Liberal AdScam $250 million theft of Canadian taxpayer’s $$$$$$$$ by the Librano$.
Dion sat at the AdScam Unity table with AdScam Chretien-Martin-Gagliano,et al.
Dion says he knew nothing about AdScam.
Dion has smeared himself with lies, lies, and more lies.
Stephane “I-Know-Nothing” Dion testifies at the AdScam Gomery Inquiry:
The Star’s James Travers writes that “the Quebec
Superior Court judge will load much of the blame
for the mutant $250 million program on a group of
loyalists [Warren K was one] clustered around
    former prime minister
    Jean Chrétien.
” According to Travers, Gomery is basing his
    conclusions on Stéphane Dion’s testimony.
At his appearance before the inquiry,
    Dion claimed that,
even as minister of constitutional affairs in the Chrétien cabinet,
he knew absolutely nothing about the program.
It was long suspected that the sponsorship scandal was the work of an elite circle, gravitating around the former prime minister, Alfonso Gagliano, and Charles Guité.
And, as the Star’s Chantal Hébert correctly points out ,
    “Dion is more than someone
who happened to have a front row seat
on the unity strategy of the government
and still managed to miss part of the main event.”

Censorship and Persecution in the Name of Islam: A Tunisian Weekly Counts the Ways
    MEMRI ^ | 12/13/06 | Zyed Krichen
In an article titled “Ban… Ban…,” published in the Tunisian French-language weekly Réalités, [1] Tunisian columnist Zyed Krichen denounced the policy of censorship and denial of free speech that he said had been implemented by most Arab states and Islamist groups “since the advent of printing.” In the second part of his article, he lists instances of censorship and persecution in the name of Islam from various Muslim countries, from 1925 to date, including banned works and writers and artists who have been imprisoned, flogged, and/or killed.
The following are excerpts from the article. For the full article in French, see http://www.realites.com.tn.
“From Philosophy to Cinema, Literature, and Art – No Field Has Been Spared and No Violent [Act] Has Been Avoided”
“In the West, the advent of printing meant enormous progress in terms of freedom of thought. Printing made possible the gradual spread of knowledge and the questioning of the established order. Technology and freedom seem to have marched hand in hand.
“But in our [Muslim] societies, the opposite seems to have happened. The advent of printing [in the Muslim world] in the mid-19th century and the spread of written materials in the 20th century have [only served to] undermine freedom of thought.
“The numerous examples of ‘censorship in the name of Islam’ from 1925 to date makes one wonder. From philosophy to cinema, literature, and art – no field has been spared, and no [act of] violence has been avoided. From the [mere] banning of the work to a death sentence for [the writer] – every kind of obscurantist horror has taken place in the lands of Islam. Given that we are one of the Civilizations of the Book, [2] this is a complete paradox. …-

    Lest We Forget:
    Remembering Capt. Nichola Goddard
[Lisa]LaFlamme spent 12 days embedded with Goddard and a platoon of nearly 40 troops on Operation Peacemaker, a mission intended to gather intelligence and root out Taliban operatives in southern Afghanistan.
“(Goddard) truly believed in this mission,” said LaFlamme on Wednesday, hours after she learned of Goddard’s death.
The 26-year-old captain lost her life at 6:55 p.m. local time, 24 kilometres west of Kandahar city, in a lengthy firefight with Taliban insurgents.
“She talked a lot about helping the children of Afghanistan — whatever Canada can do, helping with the desperate situation there. We spoke a great deal because we were together on a 12-day operation in that same region where, tragically, she was killed.”
LaFlamme said Goddard’s infectious spirit and dedication to the mission garnered tremendous admiration from her fellow soldiers.
“She had the respect, which I think is the most important thing, of her all-male platoon. Nobody questioned her. What she said went; they totally respected her decisions and knew that they were in good hands with her,” said LaFlamme.
“And that can be pretty tough for a predominantly male military, when your boss is a woman.”

  9. to anyone with a disabled child in ontario, consider a henson trust arrangement:
    `HENSON’ DISCRETIONARY TRUSTS
PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR ESTATE
If a family member with special needs is receiving
Family Benefits or other social support, and if they are left an inheritance, that inheritance must be exhausted before any further benefits will be provided to them.
There is one solution to this inequity.
A `HENSON TRUST’ is a very special legal
arrangement. Only available since 1989, when the case after which it is named was upheld by the Ontario Court of Appeal, it places estate assets in the care and control of a trustee to be administered for the benefit of a beneficiary. Inheritances placed in a properly prepared Discretionary Trust will not be available to
    offset provincial benefits.
Special Beneficiaries often benefit from guidance in handling large sums of money or significant assets, temporarily or on an on-going basis. Some beneficiaries may be unable or unwilling to seek guidance, and may at some point be left without guidance unless special provisions are put into place for their assistance.
A trust may be created during your lifetime (inter
vivos) or according to the terms of your Will
(testamentary). Although these trusts have some
limitations they are of considerable value. It is
    essential that Discretionary Trust arrangements
continually consider ongoing changes in provincial
    regulations and new case law.
Many families have members who require assistance in handling their daily affairs, regardless of their other abilities.
Special arrangements are necessary to properly
ensure that loved ones will be given the extra care they ….. etc …..
basically, your estate goes into a trust, NOT directly intot he hands of your heir, the disabled child. it is then portioned out over time by a trust administrator who YOU choose with their agreement, and thus huge amounts of inheritence and administration and income etc taxes dont happen; the vast majority of the estate is held in reserve for the exclusive benefit of the adult child throughout their life.
Our daughter is disabled and is very careful with money and very resourceful. she found out about the henson trust and told us and now we have set one up for her.
and to blazes with the da gubbamint.
they made the mistake of taking on a parent whose sole exclusive objective was the continuing care and independence of a surviving disabled child. they bet it all and LOST and thus set the precedent which stands. the key is, benefits from the estate do NOT cause reduction in other disability benefits the disabled person is entitled to and receives.
p.s., our daughter fiercely defends her independence and freedom to choose. she has never accepted or received ODSP.

Your new potrait, hard to see Khate in that one….love it
CBC, just dont bother, my expectations were too low to think there would be anything worthwhile that came out of it. Letting the soldiers and their families speak and hearing that it was positive, well maybe I should have watched.
Warren and Dion. Well, Dion was his guy and he will ride to the defence. Interesting how his criticism goes, he speaks as an insider saying “oh yes I see what they are doing” the problem comes in trying to say it was bad. With Warren K rules, it isnt bad it just is.
His own rule is that you take something that has a kernal of truth to it and stretch it, kind of like the Stock Day Barney thing. There are no lies in what M. Dion has been labeled with, they may all be ungenerous extrapolations but they all have a truthful basis. Sauce for the gander I guess….
And the lament that Dion had to say that he loved Canada? Come on, turnabout is fair play. I seem to remember this was the taunt against conservatives, they dont love their country. So now saying it is a BAD THING? Its all a game apparently, and for the moment the Cons have got game.
I am still saddened by WK’s apparent silence on the comments to Ms Rae. and the nasty, ugly and evil pamphlets handed out at the Liberal convention. I know this is an issue that he genuinely fights and genuinely (and correctly) feels strongly about. I am sure he is working behind the scenes on this to expose and expel the Liberal party members who did this, I sure hope he is as it would be consistent with his past.

The LGLA along with the OLA will be holding a rally tomorrow, Wednesday December 13th. Please meet at the Laidlaw yard on Edward St just north of the 401 overpass at 10:15am
This protest is the result of severe abuse of authority today at the farm of Shawn Carmichael. OPP and EFO officials descended upon the farm without search warrants.
Later this afternoon, Craig and Shawn Carmichael were detained for over three hours and subsequently charged Shawn was charged with “dangerous operation of a motor vehicle” (a combine) and Craig was charged with “obstruction of justice.” These are bogus charges and amounts to nothing more than abuse of authority and harassment.

  16. Neo-fascist Liberals?
The philosopher Michael Polanyi pointed out that what distinguishes leftism in all its forms is the dangerous combination of a ruthless contempt for traditional moral values (the vertical) with an unbounded moral passion for utopian perfection (which amounts to a coerced “horizontal verticality”). The first step in this process is a complete skeptiscism that rejects traditional ideals of moral authority and transcendent moral obligation – a complete materialistic skepticism combined with a boundless, utopian moral fervor to horizontally transform mankind.
But at the foundation of the secular leftist revolt against the vertical is the attendant, deeply irrational idea that there is no such thing as absolute truth, for God, among other things, is the ground and possibility of Truth. The death of God brings with it the death of the living Word, or logos. The official name of this death of the Word is ‘deconstruction,’ although it is really more of a murder (or perhaps suicide), with murderous consequences. For if truth is relative and perception is reality, then no one’s ideas about the world are any better than anyone else’s – including Islamists. And this creates a gaping cognitive and spiritual chasm big enough to drive a truck bomb through.
The reason why the Muslim world has never invented anything or produced anything of value or benefit to culture or science is because:
Causes and effects are inadmissible, according to al-Ghazali, because causes limit the absolute freedom of Allah to bring about whatever events he wills. Effects are brought about, not by causes, but by the direct will of Allah.
It seems to me that we’ve got to realize why western civilization is superior to other civilizations in order to trounce Islam once and forall. The realization of the superiority of western culture will defeat multiculturalism, pcism and moral relativism – which will signal the end of Islamism.
    Our WMD is rational thought.
I reckon what Iggy is realizing is that the French Citizen Surrender Monkey is going to stumble hard on Afghanistan, whether he’s for it (which is not credible and highly unlikely as he’s definitely part of the group described above) or against it.

  18. The liberal party now has their won Hogans Heros, I know nothing, yet Dion does not believe that Zac knew nothing re Arar. If he knew nothing, he is not intelligent enough to be a leader of our country. What else didn’t he know. Maybe he doesn’t know that cdns will rally around the troops if an election is called re Afgan. Cdns will not allow themselves or their country to be seen as cowards and quitters in the rest of the world. Will our troops die a more noble death in Darfur. Also notice that Dion was NOT invited to Iggys Christmas party. More cdns support our troops than the CCP or the Sows. I see a poster in the g&m has asked for the media to supply an english to english translation when dion speaks. The only reason duceppe wants a vote of no confidence is to have an election before the liberals can rebuild in Que. To hell with the rest of Canada, he and dion only care about Que and ont. As Harper is always 3 steps ahead of the libs and bloc, he has probably already got his campaign mapped out. And, with divisions still in the lib party-Iggy vs Dion backers, they have a lot of healing to do. Some PPG members got an invitation to a cocktail party at the PMs home. Fife of ctv did. Bet julie van didn’t or Tabers. Wonder if Peter, Don, Lloyd or Craig. How about Scott Reid or Susan. Should the govt fall before the budget, the campaign will focus on what would be in the budget. Tax cuts beat kyoto and the increase taxes that will cost every time. Dion will be asked at every opportunity what they would be willing to spend for chinese and russian credits. Will he be able to answer.

  19. A Must Read:
In honour of the brave and dedicated men and women serving (or having served) in the Canadian, American, British and Australian Forces.
    A Different Christmas Poem
    (author unknown)
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of White,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So slumbered I, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn’t loud, and it wasn’t too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn’t quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Ranger, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
“What are you doing?” I asked without fear,
“Come in this moment, it’s freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!”
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.
To the window that danced with a warm fire’s light
Then he sighed and he said “Its really all right, I’m out here by choice. I’m here every night.”
“It’s my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I’m proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died in Europe on a day in December,”
Then he sighed, “That’s a Christmas ‘Gram always remembers.”
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ‘Nam’,
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I’ve not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he’s sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red and the white … a Canadian flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.”
“So go back inside,” he said, “harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I’ll be all right.”
“But isn’t there something I can do, at the least,
“Give you money,” I asked, “or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you’ve done,
For being away from your wife and your son.”
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
“Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we’re gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.”
    PS: Happy belated B-day Kate!

  20. The formidable Warren Kinsella (warrenkinsella.com/musings.htm) says in a linked-to National Post article that Dion’s citizenship became an issue in the MSM because of a “well-orchestrated viral campaign” by anonymous, “backroom viral campaigners”. Eventually, the issue even showed up on “ostensibly independent Web sites.”
Conservative bloggers, “most of whom couldn’t be counted on to recite the lyrics of O Canada without professional help” then happily took up the cause, at which point the MSM “had no option” but to cover the issue. Darn those “ostensibly independent” websites.
“What should matter to Canadians, now that the backroom viral campaigners have sullied the good name of a patriot, is enhanced media awareness. It would make for a better democracy, and a better Canada, among other things.”
And hey, speaking of partisan campaigns getting media coverage, check out climateliberal.ca — who openly boast on a site so littered with large banners and logos of the Star, CBC, CTV etc. that it’s hard to tell at first glance whether or not climateliberal is an official site of these news organizations — that “(climateliberal’s) message was spread through dozens of media hits, reaching and audience of millions. Our core thrust was picked up by dozens of journalists and has become the policy narrative of the convention.”
Happy birthday, Kate! Your blog remains, to this day, ostensibly independent.

  21. Those egg farmers should say they are natives, and then the OPP couldn’t touch them. Is that standoff still going on. Perhaps they should file a discrimination charge, on the grounds they are white males. Western farmers can’t sell wheat on their own, egg farmers can’t sell eggs.

  22. It’s pathetic to hear warren “kicking ass” kinsella whining about how dion was treated. It was a fair observation, put forward by people who had every right to raise it. If he gives it up he is admitting Harper will defeat him.

  24. Looks like Beaker is promising an energy industry pillaging as springboard to a majority:
Liberals see tax change for oil, gas firms
    (Reuters)
The new leader of Canada’s Liberal Party, the main opposition party, said on Thursday he would review the way the country’s booming oil and gas industries are taxed if he wins the next election, widely expected to be held early next year.
But Stephane Dion — who says Canada must cut its emissions of the greenhouse gases — said he has no plans to impose extra taxes on gasoline.
Dion says he wants Canada to fulfill its obligations under the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, which calls for deep cuts in the country’s spiraling emissions.
Green activists and the leftist New Democrats want the government to end what they call massive tax breaks to the oil and gas industry, particularly in the energy-rich western province of Alberta.. . ..

    Dion, citizen of France, said:
    “So we believe in quotas,
and we believe that when we have more women parliamentarians,

Liberal Calgarygrit is worried; says Ms. Dion’s proposals
    are “almost

“…a lot of Dion’s proposals could work.
There is one section which really bothers me though:
-lead a government that will propose changes to the Canada Elections Act
to provide financial incentives to all political parties until we reach
gender parity in the House of Commons
    The way I read this,
    we will be paying parties
    to run female candidates.
To me, this is completely unacceptable and almost
    insulting to women.
It also raises the question of why we’re paying parties to run women but not minorities or other under-represented groups in Ottawa.
Is there anyone who would even consider paying
parties to run black candidates? …-

FIRST SHOTS FIRED IN CANADIAN WAR ON CHRISTMAS
    December 14, 2006 at 12:47
A Toronto judge has ordered a Christmas tree out of a provincial courthouse lobby, saying it’s not an appropriate symbol to non-Christians.
The move by Justice Marion Cohen has upset staff, some of whom have called the decision stupid and insulting. …-

  28. It actually isant a religous symbol….or at least not a Christian religous symbol. Those damn pagans and druids have been shoving their symbols down our throat for years.
If you were ever looking for a symbol of winter holidays then it is the christmas tree. Just keep angels and stars off of it and it is the perfect ecumenical symbol.
    Dumb judge.

  29. W.K. is probably correct in his stmt re O Canada. I have never sang it since they changed the words and put in a bunch of french. I still sing the original words, without any french. How long before it will be changed again to include Our home and muslim land.

  32. The MSM is predicting a peak in blogging in 2007. Which of course means a decline afterward. If I didn’t know any better I’d think the MSM is attempting to belittle the movement and galvanize public opinion against the hated enemy. Damn Blogophobics.
Sounds like Kinsella and other Liberals are getting their panties all tied in knots over the Dion citizenship thing. Insulting a ‘patriot’ and all that.
All the more reason to say:
FRENCH CITIZEN SURRENDER MONKEY, over and over again.

Uncommon Truths | Not Everything is Done In the Pursuit of Power
Sheila Copps has an article out where she discusses the Conservative plans to eliminate taxpayer-funded left-wing advocacy groups:
The government is gambling Canadians don’t care about the shortage of women in the House of Commons. By closing Status of Women offices and eliminating the “advocacy” role of women’s organizations, Conservatives appeal to an important base, those who detest funding to “liberal” interest groups.
The problem is, they already own that base. If Prime Minister Stephen Harper wants to win a majority government, he has to appeal to the broad Canadian electorate, in every sense of the word. Instead, he may be awaking a sleeping giant.
    ………………
Nothing can be more indicative of the particular lens through which Liberals see all government action: everything is done in the pursuit of power. To Copps, the Government’s actions are puzzling: why on earth are the Conservatives appealing to a base they already control? How can they possibly gain votes in this manner? …-

  35. You’re right Maz2,
Why would Harper appeal to Liberal special interest groups? What, supply these neo-fascists, who are your sworn enemies no matter what you do, with taxpayer money to use against you?
And how does Copps equate Liberal special weasel groups with ‘the broad Canadian electorate?’
Isn’t ‘special interest’ the antithesis of the majority?
Liberal pretzel logic at its finest. She couldn’t MP, she can’t write. I guess that’s why she’s pissed the SOW cheque won’t be coming.

  36. “….A Toronto judge has ordered a Christmas tree out of a provincial courthouse lobby…”

  41. Prime Minister Harper just finished his ‘Senate’ news conferrence.
    IT WAS A BLOCKBUSTER !!!
Even Gloria Galloway of the Globe and Mail had glowing comments on PM Harper’s capabilities. She said “this PM can answer questions at a news conference better than ANY she has EVER seen, he should have more. !!” Amen.
Well Gloria, what Canadians know and what the PM knows, is that the problem is the Parliamentary Press Gallary. The PM does not want to go through the PPG and the most Canadians do not want him to go through the PPG either. The Media will simply twist and turn and bias and slant in a manner that would do Pravda proud. Not a stretch at all. Got to Pravda enlish.com and compare tactics
PM Harper gave the most reasoned explaination of the folly of Kyoto I have ever heard. EVER.
If French Citizen Dion wants to run on Kyoto, let him try. It is rapidly being exposed as a Scam and in the coming months the lid will blow off. Besides it is a dog. Sorry, I love dogs.
Our beloved MSM will not be able to hide behind the ‘we didn’t know, just reporting’ BS because the Blogsphere is full of comments. And they are TIME STAMPED. Common knowledge, except for the ‘none-so-blind-as-those-that-will-not-see’ media.

  42. The war between the Muslims and Christians in the horn of Africa is pulling in thousands of jihadists from all over the world. One has to wonder how this will effect what they are doing in Iraq and Afganistan.
Maybe the way to take the pressure off the U.S. in Iraq is to stir things up in Africa.
