    PS–I’m liking Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s decisiveness vis a vis Canada’s foreign policy very much. ‘Such a change from the Librano$ wimp-wristed approach.

  2. Just some observations about the tactics of the socialist/left.
    i)Presumptions to know the minds (and hearts) of others and arguing against these ‘facts’. (All knowing)
    ii)Assuming a position of moral superiority and brow beating anyone with a contrary position.(Always right)
    iii)Convictions based on ‘common knowledge’ that are devoid of logic and cause and effect thought processes.(Consensus truth)
    iv)Always on the attack. No real answers to problems, just turning on people with original or non-PC views or solutions.(Totalitarianism)
    I’m certainly liking PMSH so far. Open, honest, functioning gov., and blowing the moonbats minds all at the same time. The more the lefties howl, the more sleeping Canadians wake up. What’s not to like?

    I’d say this is shockingly over the top, even for CNN, but it really isn’t any more.
    All have numbers. Coffin No. 104 has three names on it – Ali, Mohammed and Talib – all children. Nearby, Fatawi Horani is screaming and crying. Her granddaughter Marim, 15, was killed, she says, while trying to flee the fighting.
    Three soldiers begin to struggle with a large body bag. Maggots are pouring from the bag – blood is seeping onto the ground. When they get the body into the coffin, the lid arches as doctors hammer nails into it.
    Children are beginning to gather. It is images such as these that pass down a hatred of Israel to another generation. …-

  5. new kid – good points, but:
    Nursing home? I can’t afford the luxury of good care, so I’m keeping the Hemlock Society in my cell phone for speed dialing when and if I need it. Here’s what you get in fragile old age, and God forbid you are demented on admission to a nursing home, a minimum wage staff that is hardly sympathetic, hack nurses – the better ones wouldn’t touch the crap wages, and years at the margins of quasi-neglect.
    I trust and love my kids, but reality is the above.

    This is kind of funny if you believe the left has a monoppoly on these things. Just about every post or comment here is about what I supposedly believe or wish for, and most are off the mark. Everybody is taking the position that they are always right, and cherrypicking evidence. The whole blogosphere is about attacking and browbeating opposition, in case you haven’t been reading closely. Until people realize that both “sides” are basically full of partisan s**t and make up their minds issue by issue with facts, there will be no enlightenment.

    Penny, not all staff at those nursing homes are bad. I know of one worker who is a dear friend and you are right in one sense, the true care givers don’t do it for the money. She also has tales of inept staff but the scary part is the so called loving children who dump the folks there and only do a drive-by once a month or so if even that. In the progressive reality, the definition of family has changed and not for the better.
    BTW: forget the Hemlock phone number, just go for a long walk in the park on a winter’s eve. Once the shivering stops, it is just like going to sleep. It isn’t messy or traumatic for those who find you, and the insurance can’t kick about asuicide clause.

    48 hours be dammed! Olmert*s statement to Rice makes it clear to me that Israel has thorough intelligence and plans to take out pre-defined military assets in order to reduce Hezbollah as much as possible.
    10 to 14 days seems to be Olmert*s estimate of how long that will take and heaven help any Lebanese woman and children who refuse to leave the area.
    Olmert told Rice over the weekend that Israel would need 10 to14 more days to finish its offensive, and Justice Minister Haim Ramon told Army Radio on Monday he did not believe the fighting was over yet.

    Israel is desperate to get this done. Should there be a face-off between Israel and an opponent like Iran, Israel realizes they cannot have a well equipped Hezbollah at their back. This is an essential security measure that cannot fail.

    Whew! Wretchard, of all the posts, this one is most startling, like the fog parting to reveal the iceberg. Nothing’s changed, the ship and the iceberg are on course, only the passengers now see what is happening. Other than that, nothing changed, history grinds on in its own momentum.

    you must have been to where my mother in law is incarcerated. you hit it right on. also add short staffed and will not get anyone to make up the difference. we went through that senario a few days ago. after the papamedics were called in and a lot of knashing of teeth from my wife they finally called in additional staff to cover the midnight shift.

  19. gov’t run institutions scared the jebus out of me when i was younger…all the lost souls and the perpetual pungent smell of amonia.I once was taken to my grandmother at a facility called Kipling acres in Toronto.It was back in the days when they still washed the diapers,and the stench permeated the place.
    What i remember most was how, if you were on the second floor(as she was)and somebody from the first floor made their way there,they were driven away.
    This was done by the denizens of the 2nd floor who were being territorial with one of the last places they would ever have control of.It was sad.
    I know the facts now and always suspected there was a degree of elder abuse going on there.I remember a certain lady that was “prone to accidents” with a distinctly closed handed bruise mark slapped on her upper arm.I might have been six,but i knew that the staff took care of these”unruly ” members physically if they dared step out of line.
    Hopefully,Karma will prove to be a real b*tch of a payback for some…

  20. texas and spike, they haven’t dragged me kicking and screaming there yet. My observations are of a nurse still caring, but disgusted at the reality that’s out there.
    spike, as General Mc Arthur observed “old soldiers never die; they just fade away”….thanks for the hypothermia tip. I have no intention as a Republican of going out in the narcissistic political agenda Democrat style. A frigid moonless night, sans a sweater….cripes, I live in Florida now! I’ll have to make do with shark attack.

    Liberal MP Michael Ignatieff is calling the Conservative Government’s response to the Mideast crisis “inadequate.”
    The Liberal leadership candidate slams Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservatives in an opinion piece published in Tuesday’s Globe and Mail.
    Ignatieff also calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

    There are 4 members of the Liberal Party on this committee and 5 Liberals, (caught and pointed out by the chairman), thrust up their hands on one crucial vote.
    The BQ’s MP has a *lengthy* motion that is now being discussed…
    Effectively this forced the debate to jump from hearing from these witnesses, sending them out of the room, to go on to the political aspect.
    The committee will be asked to vote on these very critical, sensitive matters *BEFORE* witnesses were heard from.

  45. Peter Van Loan is embarrasing the CPC, he sounds like a child. He just Godwin’ed himself, the ‘tard, and came dangerously close to calling 68% of Canadians terrorist supporters. Not cool.
    Francine Lalonde has been on this committee since ’89, is considered pro-Israel, and is not on board with the CPC on this one.
    Alexa McDonough’s speech was on the money. Her POV is informed and she spoke with REAL moral clarity. She looks like Churchill compared to Van Loan.

They voted down hearing from witnesses and then when all witnesses have left they call to hear from the same witnesses. Incredible. Madam What’s-her-name informs the chair that she has been there since ’99 and that they do it (change their minds) all the time so his ruling is wrong. Your tax dollars at work.

  49. Mercifully, the Committee to Waste Tax Dollars by Spending All Day Playing Stupid has ajourned for the day. Maybe we should make the Hezbollah watch these proceedings but then again the Geneva Convention on Torture and Cruelty to Animals would have something to say.

    Yes, that sure is a mess of evidence.
    It*s great when evidence becomes de-classified so we can all look it over.
    You have to wonder what Ex- PM Martin was trying to keep us from seeing when he had a security clamp-down on some 8000 Ottawa public servants for a term of not 7, not 14 but for LIFE term.
    Is the US government too open?.. too honest?
    Is the EX- Liberal government too tight fisted? .too… of course the Libranos are! = TG
