According to the site owners, the Caledonia Wakeup Call website has been served with a demand that it be shut down by 5:00 pm today, from the OPPA, the union for the OPP officers.
Ordinarily, I might side with the OPPA on this. But as they’ve shown precious little concern for the safety and security of the residents of Caledonia, (much less the repeated demands of the judge to execute a court order) I’m taking a pass on this one.

A petition demanding that the head of the Ontario Provincial Police be immediately fired for her handling of a sometimes-violent ongoing land-claim dispute in Caledonia has begun circulating on the Internet.
“We, the people of Ontario, demand the immediate removal of OPP Commissioner Gwen Boniface for failure to protect the people of Caledonia. The Commissioner has failed to protect the power station, bridges, roads, homes and the citizens of Caledonia,” the petition reads.
The allegations against Boniface stem from a five-month native protest over a disputed parcel of land that was under development on the edge of Caledonia, a town of about 10,000 south of Hamilton.
Throughout that time, protestors have erected blockades severing several Caledonia roads, a historic railway bridge was burned and more than $1 million in damage was caused when a car was smashed into a hydro transformer, cutting off power to the town for days.
Those incidents led to numerous scuffles between protestors and townspeople, but only a handful of arrests have been made.
Boniface has been heavily criticized by politicians, residents, the Ontario Provincial Police Association and even some officers for her direction — or perceived lack thereof — since the protest began last February.
Her office did not return a call requesting comment yesterday. She has yet to speak publicly on the issue.
However, Boniface and OPP officials have held recent meetings in Caledonia, including one this week with representatives of the Caledonia Citizens’ Alliance, a grassroots group.
Ken Hewitt, a spokesman for the group, said Boniface told him the OPP are launching a plan to try to rebuild credibility in the community.
“So long that there is an occupation present, it will be virtually impossible to get the people of Caledonia to truly support the OPP,” he said. “The community does recognize that it is not the local detachment and the poor officers who have made Caledonia their home (who are) responsible, but it will be them that are left with the mess,” he said.
“They made it very clear to us that although their mandate is to enforce the law, the mandate in Caledonia is to maintain the peace and that they are in fact peacekeepers.”
So far, the petition has garnered support from more than 650 people from Caledonia and beyond.
The online petition, which can be found at http://www.petitiononline.com/Caledon1/petition.html, also includes comments, some from people who claim to be former OPP officers.
One said he was “totally ashamed of my former profession.”
Another wrote: “As an ex-OPP, I feel she (Boniface) is a disgrace to the force.”
Caledonia resident Quentin Wolsley said in an interview that he and his wife, Judith, a Grade 8 teacher, signed the petition to express how poorly they feel the provincial government and OPP have handled the protest.
He said the couple are “passive,” but as the situation escalated, both found it difficult to explain to their young daughter — and Judith to her students — why protestors weren’t being punished for lighting tire fires on the highway, digging up the road and other acts.
“The OPP have just stood aside,” Wolsley said, adding he thinks their approach would change if Boniface resigned. “She has to,” he said. “The majority here are living in fear.”
At a special court hearing on Wednesday, Justice David Marshall heard that the title of the disputed property — previously held by private Caledonia developer Henco Industries Ltd. — has been transferred to the province in exchange for an initial payment of $12.3 million.

Wow, the videos on that site are scary. Police didn’t do anything about the crimes and then let the situation get way out of hand because they didn’t do their job in the first place. How can the officers argue that they did their job when it is to protect the public and punish crime. I saw neither happening in those situations. I just can’t believe they stood by and watched it. Makes me very nervous to watch. Surprised the situation did not get more out of control.
For the union to now try and silence what is obviously the truth is an awful perversion of justice. Do your jobs in the first place and you won’t have a problem.

The website is hosted in the USA without my name being listed – I give out my name now only because it has already been printed in newspapers. This site would have already been closed down by now but has been delayed because OPPA had to pressure the USA host to give out my name. They clearly want my name, address etc. to file papers against us. Bluehost, to their credit, has refused to release information about us to anyone.

Looks like the site has indeed been shut down whether voluntarily or through pressure. The O.P.P.
is an embarassment to not only Caledonian residents but all of Canada. The officers could have declared political interference and all handed in their resignations.
As it is they stood and watched as millions of dollars of private and public property were destroyed, as seniors were beaten, as reporters and fellow American enforcement officals were beaten, tand unfortunately to their discredit the list is endless.
The Palestinians see that the rule of law doesn’t work and they have taken a different course of action.
We see this in the Native struggles here at home. Why, as the commisions have stated, that through corrupt courts the land was stolen from the Owners why would you go back to the courts?
