Golly, am I relieved. Because until I heard the various statements from assorted politicians, journalists, police chiefs and religious leaders, I assumed that the 17 Muslim men arrested last weekend for alleged connection with acts of murderous terrorism might in some way have been inspired by Islam.
But no. Apparently Islam has nothing at all to do with it and all religions are made up of good and bad people and produce their own share of extremists. In fact, according to those who shape and govern our culture, the Muslim religion is one of peace and love.
Again, big sighs of relief all round — and a celebratory burning of American flags, stars of David and any Danish cartoons that we can get our hands on. Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, al-Qaida, the Martyrs’ Brigades and all the rest are mere products of righteous anger, not religion

Look, it is hardly necessary to say it, but the majority of Muslims are not violent and condemn terrorism. But it is equally true that the majority of terrorism at this point in history is being carried out by people in the name of Islam.
They tell us so themselves. They scream from the Koran as they decapitate men and women, or when they tape religious sermons before they blow themselves up.
It is not for someone like me — a Christian with a Jewish father — to argue with those Muslims who say they are willing to die and kill for their faith, whether they are doing so in the name of Islam.
And spare me the argument about colonial oppression and suffering. In Pakistan and Egypt, for example, Christians have been persecuted by Muslim gangs.
No Christian, Jew, Hindu or Buddhist has shot a filmmaker nine times and then tried to sever his head as he lies on the street begging for his life, merely because he made a movie that offended their religion (as happened in the Netherlands).
Goodness, don’t lecture any Christian about being offended after weeks of anti-Christian nonsense with The Da Vinci Code.
It may be that Islam has been hijacked, it may be that Islam is being exploited, it may be that Islam has been misunderstood. But if so, it is Muslims who have done the hijacking and exploiting and misunderstanding and the world is being punished for the errors.
Michael Coren has been particularly good since the Jihadis were caught. His show is worth watching each night – he won’t tolerate any political correctness on this subject.

The operative paragraphs (behind the firewall):

In other words, there is no clash of civilizations as such – yet – but the West’s reaction to the “toxic idea” of a clash of civilizations could bring it about. We could always tone down the rhetoric and prevent a self-fulfilling prophecy.
And why does the “Citizen” use a headline that indicates the opposite of what the article says?

Those of us who have believed all along that the Anglo-American coalition was strategically correct in moving into Iraq, but have been the victims of executional incompetence, insensitivity and bungling, may finally have some hope. Jordanian Islamist Fascist, one Khalaylay, popularly (or more appropriately infamously) known as Zarqawi is dead.
Zarqawi combined Beria’s wickedness with Eichmann’s matter-of-fact fanaticism and added a dash of cunning that one can associate only with Karla (he of John Le Carre’s Moscow Centre fame).
In fact, he resembled Karla in more ways than one.The usual quota of well-meaning and ineffective liberals like Robert Fisk was confident that Zarqawi did not exist and that he was simply a figment of the imagination of American propagandists. Until one fine day, Zarqawi announced himself as the head of the Iraqi branch of the Al-Qaida. And he was loudly and openly acclaimed and confirmed in this position by the one who would recreate the empire of the faithful across the globe, the wannabe Caliph, Osama bin Laden himself. Once truth was officially proclaimed on Al-Jazeera, even wimpish BBC correspondents had to concede that Zarqawi existed and was a menace.
And what a diabolical menace he was! He was an equal opportunity killer who killed people of all races and nationalities. In his time, his group of sanctimonious assassins have killed Koreans, Japanese, Turks, Bulgarians, Jordanians, Britons, Americans and of course, hundreds of Iraqis. He had extra special hatred for Shias (because they were heretics) and for Jews (presumably because they were Jews).
He orchestrated car bombs in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, killing large numbers of helpless pilgrims. He attacked mosques to inflict psychological damage on the heretics.
He engineered the killing of Ayatollah Mohammed Baqr al-Hakim, a senior Shia religious leader with the deliberate intent of fanning sectarian riots.
Zarqawi specialized in brutal beheadings and enjoyed capturing these events on film. The films were routinely loaded on to the various web-sites of the fanatic variety and many were shown on Al-Jazeera. In one beheading, Zarqawi seems to have taken delight in personally wielding the knife. The fact that the victim Nicholas Berg, a telecommunications engineer (who was trying to fix Iraq’s telephone system) happened to be a Jewish American, presumably was the source of this ghoulish delight.
Of course, Zarqawi was not to be faulted on the grounds that he was not patriotic. He loved his fellow-Jordanians so much that he blew up hundreds of them in a hotel in Amman. Apparently going to hotels was an infidel activity punishable by death.
All of us who have been watching the appalling American incompetence in Iraq were beginning to give up. …

For the last ten years, development of “smart dust” has moved right along. “Smart Dust” is basically very miniaturized electronic devices. This is similar to stuff like RFID, smart cards, EZ Pass and those rice grain size tracking devices you can have injected into your pets.
But Smart Dust takes this all to a new level by being small enough to be disguised as dirt, the kind you can pick up in your shoes or clothing. Each bit of Smart Dust can be given a unique serial number that, when hit with an “interrogation signal” from troops on the ground, or aircraft overhead, is broadcast back. Some forms of Smart Dust are believed to be in use in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It’s also believed that Smart Dust played a role in the recent death of al Qaeda leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi. In this case, if someone were able to sprinkle some Smart Dust on Zarqawi’s clothing, it would have been a simple matter to track him with great precision. Iraqis have already heard of this stuff, but regard it more as “magic dust.” Iraqis have a tendency to exaggerate American capabilities, especially when it comes to technology. But U.S. troops have learned to use this exaggerated reputation to their advantage, threatening Iraqis with magical capabilities that don’t exist. That often works, just like smart dust. …

This is a family site, but I’ve run across a couple of items in the last day or two that a lot of our readers will enjoy even though they are raw and crude. This morning, Chris Muir emailed me with a link to this trailer for a new documentary film on Iraq by Pat Dollard called Young Americans. All of the footage for the film was shot by Dollard or by the Marines he was with in places like Fallujah and Ramadi. Be warned, the trailer is vulgar and, to put it mildly, not politically correct. The participants are contemptuous of various liberals and, more broadly, of their own MTV generation. I think the movie looks good.
IowaHawk is one of the funniest humorists around, and he isn’t usually profane. But his latest production is authored by al-Zarqawi: Paradise Is Overrated. Suffice it to say that the afterlife isn’t turning out quite the way the terrorist envisioned it. Again, be forewarned; but if your opinion of Zarqawi is as low as mine, you’ll probably enjoy it. …

Before I read what you had to say about him I wanted to ask him how he feels about the deaths of all of the HUMAN BEINGS killed by Islamist fanatics on 9/11, in terrorist attacks around the world, and in the Islamists’ own countries? Would he express the same sentiments toward them as he has toward the U.S.A. and those of us who are not too sad that Zarqawi is no longer alive?
